MediaPiston, Review of a Work at Home Opportunity

My Review of MediaPiston

The introduction to this Lens that I originally used was just cheesy. I want everyone to know how great MediaPiston is, but I do not want to just be an advertising beacon, I want to give real information that is informative and true. Even with that being said, I feel like my introduction has a place, so I will let you read it:

Why this work at home opportunity just might be for you! Are you a freelance writer? Tired of all the content mills paying you less than one cent per word? Are your words only worth a penny? Check this out to see if MediaPiston may be for you. Here, you will find not only all of the great things that this company has to offer, but also the negative points involved.

I write for MediaPiston

Should you?

I originally wrote a review on MediaPiston on my blog, but since it is just in the first stages of progress, I do not have too much traffic there. So, I decided to write a Lens to let you know how this company works. All of the photo's that you see on this Lens are screen shots of my own account with MediaPiston. Any information relating to the clients or other writers has been cut for their privacy.

A Brief Overview

Of MediaPiston, and How I Started

The View Work ButtonMany of you write for different companies, some write for yourselves. I write for both. I am starting to write for myself more, as I want to build a residual income. And, my writing is a form of art for me, and I am attached to it. I, rather selfishly, want to hang on to all of my "genius" ideas, and retain ownership of them. Fortunately, I have the financial freedom that allows me to write content for myself, and I do not have to hire writers to create content for websites that I am working on.

Others do not have that freedom, and that is why content mills exist. I started working for MediaPiston when they were starting their business, and they handled their assignments on Amazon Mechanical Turk. On that platform, workers from all over the world can complete "Hits" that pay as low as a penny per assignment. MediaPiston was exciting, because they offered work at a fair price. I began to grade articles for them, never writing them, mainly because it seemed that a lot of the content was based on UK information, and for a UK audience. I have trouble writing for a UK audience, and feel that "colour" should be spelled "color", so these assignments were not really for me.

I strayed from Amazon Mechanical Turk as I found London Brokers, a content mill. That was an awful experience, I think I averaged about $10.00 per day with them. When I went back later and searched for MediaPiston on Mechanical Turk, I found out they were gone. Though, somewhere along the line I had signed up through a link, and this actually allowed me to be a writer for them at a later date. The company had created their own site and now paid through PayPal instead of Amazon.

I signed in as a writer a few months ago for the first time.

Write And Get Paid

The Step-by-Step Synopsis

Star RatingsAfter accepting the article, there are stages that get you to recieving money in your PayPal account, and here they are:

*Write article. The articles very in length, from 50 word articles to 3500 word articles. The time that is allowed to complete the assignment is fair, and varies between 6 hours and 24 hours. I am pretty sure MediaPiston is working out the glitches on how much time is allowed to complete a task from acceptance to completion. From my experience, you can accept as many articles as you think that you will be able to complete before their deadline. Depending on the complexity of the topic, some only take about a half hour. Be aware that if you accept an assignment with a topic that you are unfamiliar with, the research may take longer to complete than the actual article itself.

*Submit completed article. The article then goes into the editor pool. An editor accepts the assignment, and critiques your work. They then either submit your perfect article to the client, or send it back to you for a revision. I have personally grown to love the editors at MediaPiston, and against my better judgement will mention them here. Thanks Karen and Gareth for being awesome editors!

After the revision is complete, the editor will submit your work to the client. The client has a certain number of days to either accept your assignment and pay you, or ask for a revision. I do not know what the process is if the client just rejects the article, that would be a question for the administrators.

Once the client accepts your article, you can see where the client has paid you on MediaPiston. The client can then leave feedback and rate your work on a star system. One perk to this: If a client really likes your work, they can add you as a favorite writer. For every client that does this, you are credited an extra $.75 bonus payment. Hoorah! As a favorite writer, you have a window of time to accept future articles from that client before the assignments are available to the general population of writers.

I also love www.wahm.com

The Nitty-Gritty

How much do I get PAID, and when?

Got Money? Nope?

You will! MediaPiston pays promptly on Fridays. I think that the company is actually looking at ways to pay every day, so that would be even better! The company pays through PayPal.

All articles are not created equal. Some pay $1.00 (approximate) for 50 words. Some pay $26.00 for 1500 words. I have never been paid less than a penny per word.

The best part? This past week, I noticed that MediaPiston has almost double the amount of work that is available. You can actually make a full time income writing from home in your pajamas for ONE company.

The Negative

Because someone always has to leave the glass half empty!

The only negative part of working for MediaPiston is that they are still a brand new company. There are still glitches, and the system is not perfect. I honestly do not think that the team that works for MediaPiston will ever have a "perfect" company or website. These guys are obviously over-achievers, and work constantly to make the clients and the writers happy. I think there will always be new ideas and fresh takes on what's next for MediaPiston.

Any time that there is a conflict between a client and a writer, the admin at MediaPiston (thanks Margaret) jumps right in to assist in the situation. This is by far the best company to work for if you want great communication with clients and staff. I am super impressed with MediaPiston, and believe that it is here to stay.

Oh, and they are hiring!

Thanks for the in-depth review of our service, MediaPiston. One of the benefits of working in our community is that we listen to our writers and work hard to improve the system every day. In particular, we're now growing our customer list and range of assignment types, including offering up premium pay for faster turnaround, proven track record, areas of expertise and more (including paid revision requests.) Just as all writers are different and there are many different types of content needs in the market, there's no "one size fits all" writing community, however we are working hard to expand our community to tailor to more and more each day.

@ Tolovaj. Writing is indeed "real work." And good writers normally do not write for free. Fortunately, MediaPiston is working hard to make sure that their writers are paid fairly, and their "bar" is raised daily concerning the treatment of their hard workers making this a company worth giving a shot.

    very interesting lens!

Thanks for very interesting info. I still find hard to believe how cheap are articles on the web... But on the other side i know A LOT of people who are willing to write totally free, because, well, most of people just don't think writing is real work.

This is a new one to me. I prefer not to write on assigned topics, but it might appeal to other writers who like the idea of being paid weekly. The freedom to create a web page on any topic I fancy on Squidoo keeps me working here.
