Save on Your Medical Bill Tips

Even with insurance health care can be costly. Most consumers are paying a greater portion on their medical bills than they would like to. Here are 10 tips on how you can save on medical bills. This lens also includes a sample packing list for a hospital stay and a video on how an expecting mother should pack for a hospital stay.

Tip 1

Always check your medical bills for over charges, mistakes, and duplicate charges. Be on the lookout for phantom charges too. Some hospitals with automatically charge for services and items associate with a procedure even if the services were not rendered.

Tip 2

If possible, avoid hospital visits over the weekend and on holidays. Hospitals are generally less staffed during the weekends and holidays and you may find yourself paying full price for less than full price service.

Tip 7

Rather than going to the hospital emergency room, consider going to a 24-hour urgent care for off hour emergencies. Urgent care centers are generally less expensive than emergency room charges.

Tip 8

If you need to go to the hospital to have tests preformed, ask your doctor which tests can be done as an outpatient instead of in the hospital. Tests done in the hospital are far more expensive.

Tip 9

For routine eye care, visit an optometrist rather than an ophthalmologist. In most cases an optometrist's bill for routine eye care will be less expensive than an ophthalmologist's bill.
