Proponents for the legal use of medical marijuana argue that marijuana has "accepted medical use in treatment in the US," and that it would easily meet the FDA criteria over "whether a new product's benefits to users will outweigh its risks." Marijuana, they claim, is a safe and effective treatment for dozens of conditions, such as cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, pain, migraines, glaucoma, and epilepsy. Proponents say that thousands of yearly deaths from legal prescription drugs could be prevented if medical marijuana were legal.

The seeds you use define the genetics of the plant you will be growing. No matter how much care you give your plants, you will never produce exquisite marijuana with seeds from low-quality shwag. On the other hand, great seeds will not make up for poor cultivation methods.
The seeds selected are merely one tool in growing great marijuana.
It is important to begin with the best seeds you can. Some people grow marijuana from seeds obtained from marijuana they have used. As a rule of thumb, the better the weed, the better the seeds, though there are many other factors that contribute to the quality of the marijuana. In general however, high quality marijuana is grown sinsemilla, or without seeds. The methods described in this guide will teach you how to grow sinsemilla. As a result, marijuana with seeds tends to be of lower quality, so the best way to get seeds is to purchase them from a seed bank.

What is Marijuana Hydroponics and How to Grow Weed with Hydroponics?
Growing marijuana hydroponically means that you grow the plants in an inert, sterile growing medium instead of in soil. All of the plants' nutrient requirements are supplied with the water mixed with nutrients. Plants are 80% to 95% water; the remaining parts are carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. Plants extract these elements from the air and from water so nutrients are actually a very small amount of the total weight of a plant. It is the plant's entire atmosphere that needs to be controlled to produce perfect crops.
Marijuana plants, and in fact all plants, do not need to be in a living soil, they require nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S). Those are the macro elements (the big ones) and the small elements known as microelements are iron (Fe), chlorine (Cl), manganese (Mn), boron (B), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) and molybdenum (Mo).
Marijuana Lighting:
Metal Halide (MH) or High Pressure Sodium (HPS) are the marijuana lights to get for growing hydroponic marijuana. Metal halide light is close to regular room light or cool fluorescent light (blue spectrum) and is best for vegetative (beginning) growth. While high pressure sodium is in the red end of the spectrum and is best for flowering (later) growth.
Marijuana Growing Seeds or Clones
If you know someone who grows, ask them for a few clones. If you don't have access to clones you will have to get seeds. If you don't already have some, you can ask you friends to save you seeds out of any good weed they may come across.
The better the weed that the seeds come from is, the better your crop will be. If the weed the seeds came from was no good, your crop will probably not be any better.
Germinate the Marijuana Seeds
Set up your hydroponic garden before you germinate the seeds. Make sure everything works fine. If you are using clones, skip this section.
The standard thing to do is use a Rockwool cube to start the seed on and surround it with whatever media you use. Keep the Rockwool cube so that the bottom 70% or so is submerged when the water is at max, but keep the top part above the water so that the seed is never submerged.
The media will provide no nutrition; it is just a support for the roots. All nutrition comes from the hydroponic solution.
Vegetative Marijuana Growth
The first phase of marijuana growth is called the vegetative phase. If you plan on using the MH or HPS right away, start with the light about 20 inches or more above the top of the plant and lower the light an inch or so daily until you think the height is right. Too close and the plants will dry and turn brown. Too far and the plants grow too tall as they stretch to get closer to their light source. That is a waste of space. Start high and lower the light an inch or two daily until you think the height is right.
During the first stage of growth, the vegetative stage, keep the light on 16 to 24 hours a day minimum. The longer it is on, the faster the plants will grow, but the higher your electricity bill will be.
Marijuana Flowering:
Flowering is the phase of marijuana growth that produces the most THC (the active ingredient that produces the high). Once flowering begins, the height of the plants will taper off as the plant energy is used in the flowering process itself.
You can start flowering when the plants are a minimum of about 6 inches high and have at least 4 sets of leaves. This will take 2 weeks to a month of vegetative growth in most hydroponic gardens. When you want to start flowering, cut the light back to 12-13 hours a day.
Nutrients:
Plant foods are measured in an N-P-K format. N is Nitrogen, P is Phosphorus, and K is Potassium
A 15-15-15 solution contains 15% Nitrogen, 15% Phosphorus, and 15% Potassium. A 20-10-5 solution contains 20% Nitrogen, 10% Phosphorus, 5% Potassium. The percentage of the solution not used by N-P-K is trace elements and inert material.
If you are buying hydroponic nutrient, get the powder kind that mixes with water. It is much cheaper over the long run when you compare it with already mixed solutions.
An all purpose hydroponic nutrient solution with secondary elements like calcium, sulphur and magnesium and trace elements boron, copper, molybdenum, zinc, iron, and manganese will get you through all stages of growth. But depending on the stage of growth, you can adjust different nutrient levels needed at different times to optimize growth. Higher amounts of N are needed when the temperature will be below 80 degrees in the grow room during vegetative growth. 20-20-20, or 23-19-17, or 12-6-6, or something similar, with trace elements should do it.
Marijuana Nutrient Cycle:
The timer that starts to pump the nutrient solution should turn on and the solution should submerge the plants roots every twenty minutes. As soon as the roots are submerged, the pump can shut down.
If it takes longer than 20 minutes for the roots to get water, the roots will usually grow long, and they can grow very long looking for the nutrient solution source.
In fact they can grow so long and thick that they prevent the solution from reaching all the way up your grow cups. This will also raise the chance of root material being ripped out and clogging the system. Once the flow is clogged by root or other material inside, you will have to take the garden apart and clean it.
Harvesting and Curing:
As with drying out your harvest it is important not to let impatience get the better of you. It is impossible to give an exact time for this as it varies from strain to strain. Normally you can count on 2 to 3 months. The only way to know the right time to harvest is through careful observation.
As the female flowers grow they form heavy kolas or cones. You will notice each ovary swell and tiny crystals will be visible around the flowers. The flowers will become sticky to the touch and the aroma will become pungent. As the flowers swell the white pistils begin to darken, growing from white to a reddish brown.
During this time some of the larger fan leaves will begin to yellow and wilt. This is a perfectly natural part of the grow stage. It is OK to remove these leaves and allow more light to the lower parts of the plant.
It is also a good idea to flush the plants with clean, nutrient-free water once during the flowering phase and again after 6 weeks and then again just before harvesting. This will help remove any build up of fertilizers within the plants or growing medium, making for a cleaner smoke.
Drying your Marijuana:
Remove all extraneous leaves from the plants leaving only the buds. Hang your plants upside down from a wire or string in a cool dark room with plenty of air movement. Buds that are forced to dry too quickly retain some of their chlorophyll giving a harsh 'green' taste. Allow around 4 to 7 days to dry thoroughly. You can check them by squeezing the buds between your fingers and thumb. When they are dry you should seal them in an airtight jar or bag. For the next few days you should allow them to breathe for 15 minutes twice a day. This cures the buds, ensuring all water is removed and giving the buds a smooth, sweet taste and ensuring an even burn.
Eliminating Smell:
Growing (and smoking) marijuana will produce odors. Sometimes they can be strong enough to attract attention. If you would like to eliminate the smell from growing and/or smoking marijuana the best thing to do is build an ozone generator.
Storing marijuana
If your weed is going to be stored for more than a year it should be wrapped in an air tight container and be stored somewhere that is dark and cool. A freezer is best, but a fridge, basement, closet, or something similar will do. Dry it first if you grow your own, or if the stuff you have is very moist. And remember that light, air and heat are the things to avoid

Medical use in Arizona

PHOENIX: Arizona voters have approved a measure that will legalise medical marijuana use in the state for people with chronic or debilitating diseases.

Final vote tallies showed on Saturday that Proposition 203 won by a tiny margin of just 4,341 votes out of more than 1.67 million votes counted. The measure had started out losing on election day by about 7,200 votes, but the gap gradually narrowed.

"Now begins the very hard work of implementing this programme in the way it was envisioned, with very high standards," said Andrew Myers, campaign manager for the Arizona Medical Marijuana Policy Project. "We really believe that we have an opportunity to set an example to the rest of the country on what a good medical marijuana programme looks like."

Arizona is the 15th state to approve a medical marijuana law. California was the first in 1996, and 13 other states and Washington, DC, have since followed suit.

The Arizona measure will allow patients with diseases including cancer, HIV/AIDS and any other "chronic or debilitating" disease that meets guidelines to buy 60 grams ounces of marijuana every two weeks or grow plants.

Existing law, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, prohibits any physician from being punished, or denied any right or privilege, for having recommended marijuana to a patient for medical purposes. The act prohibits the provisions of law making unlawful the possession or cultivation of marijuana from applying to a patient, or to a patient' s primary caregiver, who possesses or cultivates marijuana for the personal medical purposes of the patient upon the written or oral recommendation or approval of a physician.
This bill would require the State Department of Health Services to establish and maintain a voluntary program for the issuance of identification cards to qualified patients and would establish procedures under which a qualified patient with an identification card may use marijuana for medical purposes. The bill would specify the department's duties in this regard, including developing related protocols and forms, and establishing application and renewal fees for the program.
The bill would impose various duties upon county health departments relating to the issuance of identification cards, thus creating a state-mandated local program.

This bill would authorize the Attorney General to set forth and clarify details concerning possession and cultivation limits, and other regulations, as specified. The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement, including the creation of a State Mandates Claims Fund to pay the costs of mandates that do not exceed $1,000,000 statewide and other procedures for claims whose statewide costs exceed $1,000,000.
This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for specified reasons.

Most people believe the myth that "growing weed is very scientific and technical." This is not true at all, the call it weed, because it grows like one. What Is It?Marijuana is a mixture of the dried and shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the cannabis sativa plant. The mixture can be green, brown, or gray.
A bunch of leaves seem harmless, right? But think again. Marijuana has a chemical in it called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC. A lot of other chemicals are found in marijuana, too-about 400 of them, many of which could affect your health. But THC is the main psychoactive (i.e., mind altering) ingredient. In fact, marijuana's strength or potency is related to the amount of THC it contains. The THC content of marijuana has been increasing since the 1970s. For the year 2007, estimates from confiscated marijuana indicated that it contains almost 10 percent THC on average.
What Are the Common Street Names? There are many slang terms for marijuana that vary from city to city and from neighborhood to neighborhood. Some common names are: "pot," "grass," "herb," "weed," "Mary Jane," "reefer," "skunk," "boom," "gangster," "kif," "chronic," and "ganja."
How Is It Used?Marijuana is used in many ways. The most common method is smoking loose marijuana rolled into a cigarette called a "joint" or "nail." Sometimes marijuana is smoked through a water pipe called a "bong." Others smoke "blunts"-cigars hollowed out and filled with the drug. And some users brew it as tea or mix it with food.
How Many Teens Use Marijuana? Some people mistakenly believe that "everybody's doing it" and use that as an excuse to start using marijuana themselves. Well, they need to check the facts, because that's just not true. According to a 2009 survey called Monitoring the Future, about 7 percent of 8th-graders, 16 percent of 10th-graders, and 21 percent of 12th-graders had used marijuana in the month before the survey. In fact, marijuana use declined from the late 1990s through 2007, with a decrease in past-year use of more than 20 percent in all three grades combined from 2000 to 2007. Unfortunately, this trend appears to be slowing, and marijuana use remains at unacceptably high levels, as the most commonly used illegal drug.
What Are the Short-Term Effects of Marijuana Use?For some people, smoking marijuana makes them feel good. Within minutes of inhaling, a user begins to feel "high," or filled with pleasant sensations. THC triggers brain cells to release the chemical dopamine. Dopamine creates good feelings-for a short time. But that's just one effect%u2026
Imagine this: You're in a ball game, playing out in left field. An easy fly ball comes your way, and you're psyched. When that ball lands in your glove your team will win, and you'll be a hero. But, you're a little off. The ball grazes your glove and hits dirt. So much for your dreams of glory.
Such loss of coordination can be caused by smoking marijuana. And that's just one of its many negative effects. Marijuana affects memory, judgment, and perception. Under the influence of marijuana, you could fail to remember things you just learned, watch your grade point average drop, or crash a car.
Also, since marijuana can affect judgment and decision making, using it can cause you to do things you might not do when you are thinking straight-such as risky sexual behavior, which can result in exposure to sexually transmitted diseases, like HIV, the virus that causes AIDS; or getting in a car with someone who's been drinking or is high on marijuana.
It's also difficult to know how marijuana will affect a specific person at any given time, because its effects vary based on individual factors: a person's genetics, whether they've used marijuana or any other drugs before, how much marijuana is taken, and its potency. Effects can also be unpredictable when marijuana is used in combination with other drugs.
THC Impacts Brain FunctioningTHC is up to no good in the brain. THC finds brain cells, or neurons, with specific kinds of receptors called cannabinoid receptors and binds to them.
Certain parts of the brain have high concentrations of cannabinoid receptors. These areas are the hippocampus, the cerebellum, the basal ganglia, and the cerebral cortex. The functions that these brain areas control are the ones most affected by marijuana.
For example, THC interferes with learning and memory-that is because the hippocampus-a part of the brain with a funny name and a big job-plays a critical role in certain types of learning. Disrupting its normal functioning can lead to problems studying, learning new things, and recalling recent events. The difficulty can be a lot more serious than forgetting if you took out the trash this morning, which happens to everyone once in a while.
Do these effects persist? We don't know for sure, but as adolescents your brains are still developing. So is it really worth the risk?
Smoking Marijuana Can Make Driving DangerousThe cerebellum is the section of our brain that controls balance and coordination. When THC affects the cerebellum's function, it makes scoring a goal in soccer or hitting a home run pretty tough. THC also affects the basal ganglia, another part of the brain that's involved in movement control.
These THC effects can cause disaster on the road. Research shows that drivers on marijuana have slower reaction times, impaired judgment, and problems responding to signals and sounds. Studies conducted in a number of localities have found that approximately 4 to 14 percent of drivers who sustained injury or death in traffic accidents tested positive for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana.
Marijuana Use Increases Heart RateWithin a few minutes after inhaling marijuana smoke, an individual's heart begins beating more rapidly, the bronchial passages relax and become enlarged, and blood vessels in the eyes expand, making the eyes look red. The heart rate, normally 70 to 80 beats per minute, may increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute or, in some cases, even double. This effect can be greater if other drugs are taken with marijuana
