Medical Resources for the iPhone and iPod Touch

The iPhone is one of the most powerful smartphones available and is becoming a great choice for medical professionals who want to consolidate to a single device, instead of a phone and personal digital assistant.

iPhone native applications and web applications now make the iPhone a viable smartphone option for any medical professional.

The large storage capacity (4, 8, 16 or 32 gigabytes), high resolution displays, and wireless connectivity (by WiFi, GSM - including 3G, and EDGE) make this the frontrunner in the smartphone arena.

The 3Gs model sports a digital compass, a 3 megapixel camera, a 320x480 display, 256 megabytes of RAM (up from 128 MB in earlier models), and a 600 megahertz ARM processor in addition to a storage capacity of 16 or 32 gigabytes.

The iPhone 4 has 512 megabytes of RAM, a 960x640 display, a 5 megapixel main camera with a LED flash, and phone to phone videoconferencing.

A February 2011 survey conducted by Aptilon showed that 61% of US physicians use iPhones.

Apple also reports that 80% of hospitals are testing or piloting the iPad, showing how important the iOS medical app market is to the future of healthcare.
