Let's all hope that there will come a time that the government will impose a new regulation with the use of medical marijuana. Great job on this lens!

I'm so sorry to hear about your son and his difficulties in treating his chronic pain. The drug wars are a joke - didn't anyone read the history of Prohibition? At a minimum, all federal drug laws should be repealed, and drug use should be regulated by each state.

This is a GREAT lens 5*s, it's too bad about your son of course, but a lot of people need to hear what you have to say. I love your spunk Michelle!

Sorry to hear about your son. I can't imagine how hard it must be to watch your child go through something so horrible. As a mother I would do whatever it takes to help any of my children if they were hurting or sick.

Great lens, great subject, brave of you to post it. I am a total advocate of natural medicine, as opposed to pharmceuticals. 5* lens!

I think you are doing what is right for your situation. Not everyone will agree because a lot are naive. My husband was hit by a motorcycle many years ago and thrown and almost lost his leg as well. So I understand where you come from and the pain involved. I back your choices fully without going into a million words.

To my readers, as well as my son's father. I am removing the comment posted by "The Dad", because it is slandering, poorly written and unintelligible The purpose of this lens is to educate one side of a medical position, not to judge people on their parenting decisions or choice of lifestyles. As part of my ongoing squidooing, I will be sharing both the story behind my son's injury, my daughter's battle with auto-immune disease, and my own personal journey. If you would like to see the content's of his dad's comment, please feel free to contact me, or look for it when it appears in th appropriate lens..

Ok, one last reply before I head to bed.. way later than I should be. You sound very educated on the subject of Medical Marijuana, and I would love to see you post a lens sharing your views and concerns. I am aware of the different methods of delivery available to patients in a medical dispensary. There are several methods for administration of dosage, including vaporizing or smoking dried buds, drinking or eating extracts, and taking synthetic THC pills. Water pipes are popular because they reduce one of the major complaints of those opposed to medical marijuana, which is harm to the respiratory system.

I am also aware that modern growing operations utilizing hydroponic growing systems, advanced fertilizers and high quality lighting systems are able to produce the high grade of product needed by the medical dispensaries.

I understand that I cannot change your point of view, and I do not expect everyone to agree with my stance. Thank you again.

I'm glad that I was able to help educate. FYI: true "medicinal marijuana" is not the same as street grade. For example, higher elevations and hotter climates produce plants with more resin used in high-grade medicinal marijuana. You mention that you have friends that can tell if it is good quality. Do they have chemistry degrees and do they analyze the purity of each stash? Many states, such as CA, which you mentioned in your article, have legal dispensaries specializing in medicinal grade marijuana. Smoking is not normally a preferred method of delivery unless lung tumors are present. Also, responsible Drs do look at drug interactions, patient need, educating the patient/caregiver on when/how much to use, etc. If your Dr doesn't, ask for the information.
If you believe this is medically what your son needs, don't wait. Expend your energy getting him legal and SAFE medical help! Until you do, it is just another mom enabling a teenager to get high.

Thank you for providing another side to the argument. I have always felt that by playing the devil's advocate you can better educate yourself. Medical marijuana is not prescribed like conventional medications. A doctor simply recommends that you be issued an ID card which entitles the user to possess or cultivate marijuana for the personal medical purposes of the patient. Dosages and methods of consumption are at the discretion of the patient.

Although I do not smoke, I know those who do and they can provide a pretty fair evaluation of the product he is using. I am aware that today's marijuana is about 3.5 times as potent as what I smoked as a kid, and he is smoking far, far less than I did. If at any time I look at him and think.. ok, that's enough.. thats it for the night. I worry far less about marijuana than I would if he drank, like most teens I am aware of. Alcohol poisoning poses a far greater risk to the teen population than using marijuana.

How dare you, has the Doctor said "I can do no more" it doesn't sound like it! It sounds like you are letting him use the drug so you don't actually have to look after him, because he's high sitting in his room looking at the wall seeing nothing! WHAT A PATHETIC MOM YOU ARE. Give a shit about your son and get hin to the doctor!! And all you people that responded positively, you obviously don't have kids or you are a complete wase of human skin.

This is a well written article and I'm sorry to hear what happened to your son. I agree that marijuana MAY be a benefit in your son's case and is a benefit to many other patients. The challenge that I see is that it is call MEDICAL marijuana for a reason%u2026 because it is proscribed and monitored by a Doctor. Some of the significant things they consider are drug interactions, dosages, delivery methods and quality of the drug.
I'm assuming that your son gets his from the street since he does not yet have a card. Who decides the purity of the drug when this occurs? Drug dealers?? Many other chemicals may be added that could be fatal to your son! Who decides how much he needs.. your son, whose judgment is altered by the drug? How does this benefit him and your other kids if he (or you!) are in jail?
By all means, get the card! But until then%u2026 step up with tough love and protect your son!

Great lens! Your son is important and he should have anything he needs available to him to help him relieve his pain. As a mother, I support you.

Marijuana, in addition to helping those (both young & old) with chronic pain it also helps with ADHD and other conditions that are normally dealt with by giving prescription drugs.
Pot is much less harmful and has less emotionally or physically addicting qualities than prescription drugs. The prescription drug lobbyists will continue to put out incorrect info about pot just to keep the stigma attached.
You did a great job conveying your son's story and I hope that others read it and fight for medical marijuana in their state for adults and minors alike.

Thank you so much for your support. I think when your kid goes through something like my son has, the usual rules don't apply! I just hope it makes people think about both sides of the medical marijuana issue.

Very well said...I also support the legalization of medical marijuana and consider it the least dangerous so-called drug out there...I actually don't even consider it a drug, but more of a medicinal herb...though I personally am allergic to it, I know many people who benefit from it and have never met anyone who has destroyed their lives, overdosed or died because of marijuana... though hundreds of people do all three of those things every day because of Alcohol, which of course is legal...crazy!
