- Why can't we just tell the truth and say that most services pay sweat shop wages and that hourly office jobs are almost impossible to come from. We do a real crime when we say that transcription is a 6 figure job.

- Hi, Pat. Thanks for your comments. I have tried to be very honest about the reality of what one can earn as an MT. I don't think you'll find where I have encouraged people to expect a 6-figure income until you have been in the business a very long time and are willing to work very long hours to achieve it. I can't agree that MT services exactly pay sweat-shop wages; that is an insult to people who really have to work in adverse conditions. When we work for a service we usually get to work from home and have flexible hours. But you are correct that they don't pay what they once did. There are still office jobs out there according to my research. It really seems to depend on the area of the country you are in and whether or not you are in a larger city where there seem to be in-house jobs available. They are at a premium, though, and there is a lot of competition. The bottom line is that medical transcription still provides good opportunities for people who want to have a home-based position with the potential for a decent salary.

- You make what you put into it. I work about 6 hours a day and make plenty. If you are accurate and type fast, you are all set. It's definitely the flexibility that is more important to me..
