Meditation Audio to Aid Meditation Practice

Meditation audio designed to help with meditation comes in many forms, formats and prices. What works for you is a personal choice.

You can get these meditation audios as CDs, DVDs, mp3 downloads and there are even people still searching on the internet for meditation tapes. They can be roughly divided into 3 forms.

Guided meditations, an instructor takes you through a particular meditation method and you are able to follow along. This could be useful if you want to learn to meditate at home, or if you can find one for a method you already know.

Music or sound audios, intended as an aid to your current meditation practice. They give you something pleasant and not too demanding to listen to as a point of focus.

Binaural beat audios. These are a technological solution, designed to put you into deep meditative states without any effort on your part.

Guided Meditation Audio

Talking You Through It

My first real experience of meditation was at a local Buddhist centre. They held a beginners meditation class that was open for anyone to attend.

They provided a friendly atmosphere and very quiet and tranquil setting. With the instructor giving step by step guidance, it was very easy to reach a relaxed, calm state that lasted for hours afterward.

It was so easy to achieve this at home alone. They also provided CDs of guided meditation, which was how I found out that such things existed. There are many, including ones with no religious or philosophical connections.

Just a Little Assistance

The aim of meditation is to calm down the mind chatter that normally goes on in our heads and slow down our brainwaves to the levels we reach just before sleep or even in sleep.

This is normally done by counting breaths, mentally repeating a mantra or by visualizing something like a candle flame. This can be quite demanding to begin with and we constantly have to gently bring our attention back.

These meditation audios give a point of focus that goes on constantly, so that they always provide a point of focus for us to switch back to.

Doing It the Easy way

If all of the above just seems like too much effort, how about this. You sit in a chair and put your headphones on. You hit the play button and hear pleasant music or sounds.

In the background, a different frequency is being applied to each ear. This causes your brain to resolve the difference between them. It is automatically generating brainwaves at deep meditative levels.

In the meantime, you are free to think about whatever you want. What was on TV last night or the new pair of shoes you want. You could even nod out. The process is still working.

Some Meditation Audio Providers

What I have Used

I have become a big fan of the possibilities of binaural beat technology. I have been a daily user of Holosync for about two and a half years. 7 days a week, I start the day by 'doing the disc' as I call it.

Holosync meditation CDs

Holosync is possibly one of the most expensive solution's and does require this kind of commitment. It is a part of my long term commitment to personal development. A massive amount of support is provided with this system to aid that.

It is only available on CD, with each level consisting of up to 6 CDs. This accounts for some of the cost and also creates some issues in getting hold of the new levels.

I have also used Holothink. This is available as an immediate mp3 download. It very much cheaper but does not have the same goals.

Tranquil meditation CDs

They provide tools for specific purposes. Their relaxation solution is 'Totally Tranquil'. While it is beneficial to use this every day, it is not a requirement. It also comes with a shorter audio to dip into for a quick de-stress.

These two solutions have different aims, and are not really comparable in what they do and what they cost, but both have been useful for me. And they both offer free trials so that you can find out if they work for you.
Important!

This is too big a subject to cover fully here. This blog provides more information on meditation audio and links to free trials of the technology.
