Yay, I was pretty excited to find out that NBC's paranormal drama Medium was renewed Sunday for a sixth season. Seeing photos for Medium Season Six made me even more curious.
"Medium" vs. "Ghost Whisperer"
Hey now, there's a bit of a rivalry going on between these two shows. You've probably guessed what I'm talking about. Medium and Ghost Whisperer are often compared because they're both about "female psychics". This similarity is also what marks the biggest difference. In GW, you have J Love talking to ghosts, but she is not really a psychic. While crisis apparitions do appear to her, she rarely has visions of the future. Then you have Patty who has visions of the future but hardly ever talks to ghosts.
Lets settle this question: Which show is better? Medium or Ghost Whisperer?

Ghost Whisperer sucks. I just saw an episode with this guy named Eli who can hear ghosts but not see them. The whole this was about getting his mother and father (who are dead) to be at peace with themselves and go into the light. Come to find out, the moms was gay and the father didn't know. So I guess that the whole show was this dead woman "coming out the closet" so she can be at peace, her husband be at peace, so they can go into the light. How stupid was at? Complete garbage. While souls/ghosts in Medium cannot rest until they are avenged when their killer is brought to justice, Ghost Whisperer deal with lesbians telling everyone who is dead and living, the truth about the affair. Real Stupid, real garbage. Molly, how can an episode like that touches your heart? Even if you're gay, it's still stupid. The show made you think that someone was murdered, but in that end, the lesbian mom died from natural causes and her mistress wanted to cover it up so no one would know...but then come out the closet later? Real dumb show.

In terms of writing, I definitely think that GW is the better written show. GW tugs at my heartstrings more. Some people might consider this a negative, but I'm a sucker for sentimentality. The cases that Melinda gets aren't always nasty crimes whereas the cases Allison gets are quite brutal. When I'm watching these shows, I'm not looking for a procedural like "Law and Order" just a drama with some supernatural twists and the odd scare.
