Meet Jersey Girl!

This is Jersey, my daughter got her a couple years ago from her best friend.

She has always loved boxers and when Jacque's boxer got pregnant she put an order in for one of the pups.

It didn't take Katie long to choose her favorite when the puppies were born, Jersey just won her heart.

Jersey is 3/4 Boxer by blood, but 100 Boxer by heart.

How Jersey got her name

Can you guess?

Katie, my daughter thought that Jersey looked like a litte calf when she was born. Her white was so white. She looks a bit more like a Guernsey calf than a Jersey calf. But the name Jersey just fit her to the core.

It wasn't long until she was as long legged and awkward as a newborn calf. But just as cute and busy as any other puppy.

Jersey at rest

There is nothng sweeter than a puppy sleeping

I have to admit that it wasn't long after my daughter introduced us to Jersey that I became her "Grandma". Jersey is just an adorable dog. She is good with children, well behaved, loves to fetch and really no problem for us to "dogsit" when Katie and Russell go on trips.

This is Jersey's Momma, Katie

Katie is my beautiful daughter

I have to admit that a dog could not have a better owner. Katie works with her to make sure she is entertained, well groomed, spoiled with love but made to behave herself and show manners to visitors at their house.

I think Katie will make a wonderful mother someday and Jersey will be good with babies too.

Jersey in the Cone of Shame

For those of you that have seen the movie "Up"...cute show!

Katie made this cone for Jersey when she hurt her ears by shaking her head so hard she hit her ears on her collar. She would almost get them healed and then shake her head again, Katie made her a cone..."The dreaded Cone of Shame" and she did not like it one little bit.

Jersey with the big brown eyes

Adorable Boxer's eyes

If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting a Boxer, let me tell you a little bit about their personality. At least I can tell you about Jersey's personality.

Jersey has these huge dark brown liquid filled eyes that will melt your heart. She has the funniest bite, and comical looks at times because of her droopy cheeks. She is a lean, not so mean, jumping machine.

Boxer love to use their paws, I am sure it is how they got their name. The love to "Box" and will play box with you. Jersey loves to play frisbee, but instead of jumping up and catching the frisbee in her mouth, she will try to catch it in her paws.

She is very delicate. Her paws will sometimes bleed when running across the hard crusted snow. She has a winter jacket Katie put on her when it is cold, and if you see her outside in the winter you will know why she bought it for her. She won't sit but hoovers over the top of the cold and shivers. She really needs winter boots for sure. I believe Boxers in cold climates should always be house dogs. In fact in any climate as they are very much people dogs. They love to be with their humans even more than they enjoy being with other dogs.

She doesn't have a mean bone in her body and we think she might run away but would bark if someone ran at us.

For some reason even the meanest of cats, absolutely love Jersey. Both our cats would rub on her and purr, play with her with no fear what so ever. I don't know what it is about that dog that they love so much. Jersey you see, used to chase cats all the time when she first came to visit us. If there was a cat in the yard she would tear after it and chase it, then one day she actually caught one, she came to a screeching halt about two feet from the cat and had no clue what to do now that she caught it...so she just walked away.

After that I think the word got out that she was such a softy with cats, the bluff was blown, her heart was known. She is the "CAT WHISPERER". For reals!

The Cat Whisperer

This was the Snake River near Payette in January of 2011

See that broken ice there?

This was the Snake River near Payette in January of 2011. It was so cold and iced over around the edges of the river. We had a nice day in January and Katie and I decided to take the dogs for a walk on the Payette Greenbelt.

We walked for close to a mile to a place that we call the rope swing. The local kids have a long rope tied to this huge tree every year and they climb up it and swing out over the river and drop into the water to cool off in the summertime.

Now Jersey, she loves to bounce, much like a deer hops when going through brush, she just bounds over things. I think she might be part deer. So on this part of the greenbelt we are far from house and people so our dogs were running loose.

Jersey is bouncing through the brush. Katie and I were standing looking at the river and noticing how this frozen foam almost looked like a sandbar when all of the sudden Jersey comes bounding over a log and is airborn over this "sandbar" which was really frozen ice over the river in a very deep hole.

It seemed that time stood still as we watched her coming toward that ice, her ears floating last above her head...and her ears were the last thing we saw as she disappeared beneath the ice into the very cold water.

Now Katie's reaction was different than mine. Katie is a CNA, she is a caregiver to people and works in an OB ward. She has a heart of gold and was so worried about Jersey, worried she would drown or freeze in that cold water.

Now her mom, I must have an evil streak, because I was laughing hysterically and could not stop. I was laughing so hard I was crying as Jersey popped up quick and Katie pulled her back up on the bank. Her useless mom trying to keep from peeing her pants she was laughing so hard.

Gosh there is nothing like a good laugh, is there?

Jersey is a Huge Ham

She loves the camera.

.
Jersey is such a ham, she is hard to get pictures of because she loves to run toward you when you are taking pictures, doesn't like to sit still away from her "people".

And...

Jersey doesn't like to "not be in a picture".

Here are some pictures of Jersey sneaking into the shot when she wasn't invited!

We were trying to take some pictures for my daughters engagement announcments in the backyard, but Jersey wanted to play fetch.
