The Flintstones
The creativity of having the "animal powered" appliances which were used daily in the show is unmatched. Wilma's Mammoth powered Vaccuum cleaner, and the bird can opener are just two examples of the hilarity of the concept.
The Flintstones are truly Cartoon Icons and a perfect example of timeless humor. Fred and Wilma Flintstone, after 40 plus years, are being watched by the youngsters of today. It's time to "Meet the Flintstones".
Fred and Wilma Flintstone
The Modern Stone Age Family
Wilma Flintstone, nee, Slaghoople, was a sweet natured spend-a-holic who must have had the patience of a Saint. Although, Wilma did on occasion get cross with Fred. Who can forget that famous Signature growl saying "Oooh, that Fred" She was for all intent and purposes a happy Stone Age Woman, and who wouldn't be with all of the "modern" appliances whe had! Her Hogasaurus Garbage Disposal, and her Peacock Feather Duster.Wilma seemed to have one weakness, and that was her being a Spendaholic. Every chance she got, she grabbed that credit card and yelled "Charge it"! Wilma and Betty had no problem dealing with whatever extra money Fred and Barney happened upon.Fred Flintstone, that lovable character who was also known for his bear like growl and excessive mumbling. I'm no Dr. Freudstone, but I'd wager Fred was a bit manic-depressive. Oops, sorry, that term is SO Stone Age. Fred seemed bi-polar. Fred Flintstone went from laughing to yelling several times each episode. He never seemed to catch on that whatever he and his pal Barney cooked up, they would be caught.
Fred worked hard at the Slate Gravel Company for a very unappreciative boss, Mr. Slate. When Fred returned home every evening, he expected his dinner to be on the table! Most evenings Fred could be seen trying to hatch up some scheme that would ultimately land him in trouble. There they are, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Flintone of Cobblestone Lane.
By-and-by along came little Pebbles, with all of her Mother's looks and Charm. She was the light of Fred's eye. Fred's mood would soften instantly around Pebbles. So, with Fred, Wilma, Pebbles and then Dino, the family was complete

Betty and Barney Rubble
The Flintstones Friends and Neighbors
Betty Rubble was simply a sweetheart! She really didn't even have much of a temper. She could make an awfully threatening facial expression, but her bark was worse than her bite. Betty was an attractive, easy to please woman married to Barney, Fred's best friend.Betty's best friend, of course, was Wilma Flintstone. They were the partner detectives to Fred and Barney's partners in crime. Betty could often be seen humming and smiling. She was just a character you couldn't help but love.
Barney, a sort of a happy go lucky fellow who always let Fred talk him into something. Barney always started out resisting, with a kind of "Mr. Ranger isn't going to like that Yogi" type of resistance, but eventually Fred would persuade him. Barney couldn't seem to hold a job.
Barney Rubble had an unmistakable laugh. I guarantee you could pick his laugh out of a crowd. He was very much a family man and was well matched with Betty. He, too, was a sweet, simple person.
After the arrival of Pebbles Flintstone, the Rubbles got their own bundle of joy, albeit a bundle of joy with super-human strength, Bamm Bamm. The Rubble's Son could lift anything, and I mean anything, and only ever spoke one recognizable word, and he alwsys said it twice, BAMM BAMM. If nothing else, the boy knew his name. Of course, Pebbles, even as a baby could not resist Bamm Bamm's charm. Eventually, the Rubble's, too, aquired a pet Hopperoo, named appropriately, Hoppy.
