Meet Max!
We adopted Max from Kentucky Lab Rescue and at first were a bit nervous about adopting an adult dog as we had raised Shamus from a puppy. However, we quickly discovered that Max is still young enough to play as much as we want and loves to run whenever he gets the chance, but is old enough to display wonderful manners.
Max is everything you expect of a lab -- loving, sweet, and playful -- but he is also a gentleman who prefers to toilet in privacy and rarely barks. He is a wonderful playmate for our son Noah and is my constant companion during the day. He has enriched our lives in so many ways that we cannot imagine life without him.

Puppy or dog?
Since my husband and I have been married we have owned (or been owned by) 3 dogs. We adopted Shamus as a puppy and trained her ourselves. We were given Midnight when he was 5 and already trained. We adopted Max when he was 2 and had basic training. We had Midnight at the same time that we had Shamus and I never felt that I had the same trust in my ability to control him as I did with Shamus. I'm not sure if the problem was simply that he was older when we adopted him or if it was just him. He was not out of control but not as trustworthy as Shamus. However, with Max we have been able to continue his training and I do trust him and know him well. So what is your preference when it comes to welcoming a new dog to your family?
Which do you choose

Margo_Arrowsmith says:
years ago I got a 4 month old puppy (house broken) and then a year old rescue dog, they are gone and now I have a four month old puppy, who was 2 months when I got him. Its always wonderful, except this time I had to do the housebreaking, but then Xander is a genius
Adopt a dog
sousababy says:
Any rescued or shelter dog (or puppy) is my pick.
pilegirl says:
I'd like an older, calmer dog who knows how to behave.
ltraider says:
Puppyhood was a bit much for me the first time
pheonix76 says:
Even though my first two dogs have been puppies, my next will be an adult dog -- so many are looking for good homes.
BuckHawk says:
Adult dogs, even if they don't have house manners, yet, learn the house routine so much faster than puppies do. I have never met one that wasn't a most beloved and loving soul to enrich my life.

Something else
sousababy says:
As long as they are friendly any doggie (I do love labs just as much).
skiesgreen says:
I have had several dogs in my life and liked them all. There is no such things as one being better than another when you love them and they love you back
Margo_Arrowsmith says:
I loved my Dalmatians (one mixed) and now I love my Chihuahua (mixed)
BuckHawk says:
I do love Labs, but I can't pinpoint a favorite breed.

Morkies! :)
Max's favorite toys
- Dental Chew
- He really really likes this dental chew
- Soft Floppy Disc
- Max will play fetch with this as long as you are willing to throw. Noah and his friends sometimes play Max in the Middle and he likes that too.
Where did Max's name come from?
Of course, because we are into nicknames at our house, we often call him variations of his name -- Maxinator for example!
How well do you know humankind's best friend?

- Thank you for sharing your wonderful doggie Max with us. I don't have a dog currently - but hope to someday soon. Pets provide unconditional love when we need it most, don't they? My house would never be a home without a pet (I love cats too).

- The Maxinator - what a great name for him. Good for you for rescuing all your dogs! Such a great need out there. Lensrolling to my Black Labrador Retrievers to the Rescue lens. Take a bit of Angel Dust for the Maxinator, too.
