Frontman Dave Mustaine's first claim to fame - that he was kicked out of Metallica in 1983 - turned positive when he formed Megadeth, who went on to become one of the most popular thrash metal bands of the 80's and 90's.
The band have had 19 official members over the years and have released 10 full length studio albums, each largely driven by the songwriting skills of Mustaine, the only original member.
Megadeth officially disbanded in 2002, after Mustaine was diagnosed with a nerve condition which left him unable to play guitar, but returned with another studio album - The System Has Failed - in 2004.
2006 saw Megadeth sign to Roadrunner Records and start work on a new album, titled United Abominations.
Latest Update: In 2007, Megadeth are touring in support of United Abominations.
