Each piece is sturdy enough that a small tyke can sit on it (on carpet) and not bend it. Also, the colors are just as vivid as they look on my computer screen. Quite lovely. The kiddos get so excited at the sheer size of these puzzles that we have several of them, some several years old and still in good shape. - Some kids just love big things and these puzzles are very big. I like to add words to the back of the pieces to add more literacy to the environment. For example on the firetruck, I might write the word firetruck to each piece. It will help when the pieces get mixed up and when the children want to write about firetrucks they will know where to go to find it.
