Who is Melissa Mars

Ranked #19,271 in Entertainment, #235,200 overall

Melissa Mars - A very talented French actress and musician.

I stumbled across a Melissa Mars video one day and was blown away by her. She is a beautiful and very talented young lady, but not as well known here in America.

This lens was created because I enjoy her work, and think as more Americans see her in action, they will also appreciate her talent. I quite literally could be her biggest fan in America, but my French skills are quite limited and access to her work is inhibited by geography.

My goal of course is not to be comprehensive in coverage, but rather highlight some of her activities for an American audience. I encourage you to watch the music videos and interviews and see if quite possibly you might become a fan as well.

I hope you enjoy!

Three reasons to love Melissa Mars

Melissa MarsMusic - Melissa Mars combines a beautiful voice, with creative lyrics and unique videos for an entertaining combination. By singing in both English and French, she broadens her appeal beyond the French speaking areas, and creates some interesting songs. Melissa has released three albums, along with a few singles and duets. You can see a sampling of them all below.

On Screen - Her unique appearance is an asset on stage and screen. Her acting credits include several roles on French TV, as well as a small part with John Travolta in From Paris With Love.

On Stage - Melissa Mars is currently on stage starring as Aloysia Weber in the musical Mozart, l'opéra rock as Mozart's first love. Melissa Mars Music Videos

This is a sampling of Melissa Mars' songs and videos. Translations may not be 100% accurate.

"Love Machine" (#93 France) was the first video I discovered and is in the first position below. I loved the song and enjoyed the video as well. Very little not to like about either. I find the French version to be superior to the one in English (#8 below). But the remix (#10 below) is not bad at all. "Love Machine" was released in 2007 on her album titled À la recherche de l'amour perdu (In search of lost love).

"And...I Hate You" (#2 below) was released in 2005 on her album La Reine des abeilles (the queen bee) according to Google translation tool. It combines both English and French lyrics and a "western" narrative for the video that is quite stunning.

The third video below is "Papa m'aime pas" (#70 France) which is translated as (Daddy Doesn't Love Me). Another interesting video and song combination. The single was released in 2003 off of her first album Et alors! which translates to (and then) according to Google, but "so what" or "whatever" might be closer to the true meaning in every day English.

"Army of Love" came out in 2009 and Melissa produced this video herself along with an animator. You can learn more about this in the interview videos posted below. This came off the À la recherche de l'amour perdu album and a video is available in both French (#4 below) and English (#9 below).

"Et Je Veux Danser" is the newest single from Melissa was released in June of 2011. The title means "And I Want To Dance." It is the 5th video below.

#6 is the video of "Et Alors!" the song is from the album with the same title and was released in 2003.

"Apocalips" is #7 below and was released in 2006 off of the La Reine des abeilles album. This is another live performance.

Melissa Mars plays Aloysia Weber, an early love of Mozart. She has a part in each of the videos below.

Random Melissa Mars Songs, Duets and Performances

Melissa Mars performs "Men In Black" with Anthony Kavanagh (h/t artistofideas). The cast of the Mozart Rock Opera sings "They Don't Care About Us" and also "The Show Must Go On".

"1980" is a duet with Pascal Obispo. Released in 2006 it ranked as high as #3 in Belgium, #5 in France and #43 in Switzerland.

Brooklyn's Riot !n Paris teams up with Melissa for "Digital" in both English and French. Released in 2011.

The Cure is one of my favorite bands. Melissa covers their hit "Boys Don't Cry" in a live performance in the 7th video below.

"Les homéricains" is a duet with Lara Fabian on Americans. It seems they are just as ignorant of American culture as we are of French culture. Its a shame, but not unexpected when you judge a country by movies, television and pop culture. Stereotypes are difficult to overcome.

Two quick notes: (1) "Men in Black" singer is Anthony Kavanagh

    (2) If you want to see "1980" video in the USA, you cannot find it by searching for Melissa Mars on Youtube (that will bring up the copy now country-blocked). But you can still see it via the pascalobispoVEVO channel. (Search for pascal obispo 1980.)

Thank you for the info! I have added the singer's name, deleted the blocked version of 1980 and added the VEVO version to the module above.
