AMBASSADOR FOR JESUS
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS 2008
(1978-2008)

The Ambassadors for Jesus celebrates three decades spent in showcasing Roman Catholic Unity through pageants, prayer meets, all night Vigils, rosary crusades, football tournaments, concerts, awards and a newsletter. The Ambassadors for Jesus, under direction of their Founder Melvyn Brown, and after four Spiritual Advisors, have spread Catholic Evangelization to almost an entire generation of youth and indulgent adults. The truth of the matter was emblazoned in the Latin saying, "Deus volte", If God wills it.

His Grace, Archbishop S. Lucas Sirkar, sdb, said in his Official letter: "Hearty Congratulations on the occasion of the 30 years of service of AFJ in the Archdiocese of Kolkata. "I assure you of my prayers and blessings on your apostolate".

The DVD "Colours of Christmas", produced by Melvyn Brown has also been sent for the 23rd International Catholic Film and Multimedia Festival, "Niepokakanow 2008" Poland.

Three reasons to love Melvyn Brown,Anglo Indian Chronicler

Better to light one Candle than to curse the darkness

Melvyn Brown is a man to respect and admire for the following three reasons:

1. Melvyn Brown is a prolific writer having written and self-published several books on the Anglo-indian community, short stories and articles.

2. Melvyn Brown is the Founder of a non-profit Catholic movement, for unification among the Catholic community.

3.Melvyn Brown is the publisher of two non-profit newsletters, The All-Parish Paper and The Anglo-Indian,which are published monthly and give free.

Who are the Anglo-Indians?

Anglo-Indians are people who have mixed Indian and British ancestry.Anglo-Indian, Dictionary.com. The British residents in India used the term "Eurasians" for people of mixed European and Indian descent (cf. George Orwell's Burmese Days).

The Anglo-Indian community in its modern sense is a distinct, small minority community originating in India. They consist of people from mixed British and Indian ancestry whose native language is English. An Anglo-Indian's British ancestry was usually bequeathed paternally.

Article 366(2) of the Indian Constitution defines an Anglo-Indian as "a person whose father or any of whose other male progenitors in the male line is or was of European descent but who is domiciled within the territory of India and is or was born within such territory of parents habitually resident therein and not established there for temporary purposes only"."Constitution of India""Treaty Bodies Database - Document - State Party Report" United Nations Human Rights Website. April 29, 1996.

This definition also embraces the descendents of the Indians from the old Portuguese colonies of both the Coromandel and Malabar Coasts, who joined the East India Company as mercenaries and brought their families with them See Stark, op. cit.. Similarly the definition includes mestiços (mixed Portuguese and Indian) of Goa and people of Indo-French, and Indo-Dutch descent Dover, Cedric. Cimmerii or Eurasians and Their Future: An Anglo Indian Heritage Book. London: Simon Wallenberg Press, 2007. Pages 62 - 63.

Anglo-Indians formed a significantly small portion of the minority community in India before independence, but today more live outside India than within it. Their numbers in India have dwindled significantly as most emigrated to the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and, to a lesser extent, Canada and the United States.
