What a great lens. Thank you for all the wonderful ways you reminded us to remember Memorial Day. I loved finding out where the poppy flowers idea came from. We support them, and wear the flower. So many great people to thank for our lives today. Thanks for covering the bases. Singing songs of remembrance. Ray Charles version still gives me goosebumps.

  • jsr54 May 28, 2012 @ 9:03 am | delete
I took my children out to DFW National Cemetery to visit my dad's grave and pay respect to all the others laid to rest there. We had the opportunity to thank a wheel-chair bound WWII vet and it was the highlight of our day.
Today we will celebrate by the pool with family and friends and observe the moment of silence at 3pm.

A great lens of the history of Memorial Day and a tribute to the day and the people who serve our country. My 16-year old (Colton) plans to join the Army next year, and it is all he has talked about since elementary school. A former student of mine (Justin) is in the Army, now the Reserves, and he had such an impact on Colton that he made this decision in 4th grade. Justin came to visit Colton's school for Veteran's Day and it changed the path of my son's life. He still communicates with Justin on Facebook. We watched a youtube video yesterday that was made a couple of weeks ago to honour the soldiers lost in the Iraqi and Afghanistan conflicts. It is very touching, although most of them move me.

  • Lori_Lee-Ray May 1, 2009 @ 12:58 am | delete
I celebrate by praying for the fallen heroes families. I don't do a barbecue or have a party. I believe it should be a day of reverance. I'm thankful that I'm free, but not at the price of someone else's child. It's hard to "celebrate" that. :) My daddy raised me to always say thank you to a man in a service uniform. And 40 years later, I'm still thanking them. This is a very good lense. I loved it. I added it as a discovery on my HonorOurHeroes lense. Thank you for making it. God bless you.
