Premature Deactivation

1. Make sure your camera has finished saving before you switch it off. "Premature deactivation" has seen many an over eager man spill his picture load. As well as losing images, you could corrupt the memory card entirely which is why this little gem of advice is in the top spot.

The Pull-Out Technique

2. Be careful not to take out your memory card while the camera's still on. As above, the "pull-out technique," as it's commonly known, can destroy images- even lives- and definitely should be avoided. 4. Don't fill up your memory card. Ask anyone who's ever given you fat friend a backy uphill on a moped, things go much faster if you lighten the load.

Don't Run out of Juice!

5. Make sure your camera battery is fresh or fully charged. "What the funk has this got to do with memory cards!" I hear the hardcore faithful among you demand. Well, it's a known fact that little or no juice in your battery can actually prevent pictures being saved. Shocking.

Beware - Magnetic Fields

6. Now it starts getting spooky. Beware of stereo speakers, ley lines or anything that has a strong magnetic field. These things can make your images mysteriously disappear quicker than you can say "Bermuda Right-angled Isosceles".

Don't put it in the Wrong Slot

7. (My editor has specifically asked me to keep this item innuendo free so I'm just going to deliver it cold): Make sure you're always very careful to insert it into the right slot. Trying to force it in the wrong way around can cause serious damage and embarrassment.

8. Always use protection. Keep it covered in a plastic case to avoid any unnecessary accidents you may regret later.

9. Hands off Sicko! Don't let your mucky paws come into direct contact with the electrical contacts. Dirt and oil from your fingers can seriously crash your card.

10. Lastly but not leastly, don't keep on deleting your images. Okay, so she's run off with that guy from her office with the tan and the trendy tank top. Don't delete her out of your life one by painful one. Transfer the images you need onto your computer and then reformat your whole memory card if you want it to last longer.
