This is the first time I'm hearing about Meniscus Tear, but it definitely looks painful. Hope you've had no issues since your surgery. Stay healthy and blessed my dear! :)

    Hey,

I am certainly glad I came accross this.

Even though I don't have any knee problems right now, it is an interesting article that I can share with someone that does have some knee problems.

    Thanks,

    James Mason

Went for a steroid/cortisone shot for knee...other same-type of treatment had worked for years in other parts of my body treating athritis pain. But, NO, the doctor said arthroscopy was needed.
Now, after 2 years of stiffness, pain, and 4 other doctors, plus theraphy, I still have a weakness and cracking there.

A few years ago, my spouse had a full blown meniscus tear that was so bad it left his leg locked for a week until the specialist could surgically remove the broken pieces. He was in excruciating pain, and the leg began to atrophy before he was allowed to go into therapy. The doctor had to aspirate his knee to get it to move. No two tears are the same, and no two people heal the same. Over time and physical therapy, the knee recovered, and he could walk again without crutches. Thank you for sharing your information. This is a very informative page.

I must say that is some pretty graphic info. I would like to add that even with surgery the tissue in your knee needs to heal properly in order to function. I recommend a nutritional supplement called Provantage. My wife tore her ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) completely and 2 orthopedic doctors insisted her having surgery to repair the damage. By using this product she avoided surgery, is now healed from the injury and works 5 days a week with full range of motion, strength and mobility in her knee. I'm glad someone told us about it!

I slipped on wet grass a month ago and tore my MCL. After a month of my knee still swelling and acute/chronic pain not getting any better I went to an orthopedic doctor. Just had an MRI to check for a meniscus tear. He said I'll probably need surgery if it is torn. How funny I came across this lens!

    Hi,

Must say your lens made a lot of things clear to me. I found this site for medical tourism mexico. I'm thinkinf of going to Mexico for my knee surgery.

    Hi Julie,

Another excellent lens. I played basketball and a tear of the meniscus is a common injury. I feel fortunate to have avoided it.

    Thanks for sharing :)

I hear are cadaver ligaments are being used quite a bit these days for these types of tears. Blessings! :o)

Ouch! What a well researched lens and useful for anyone unfortunate to suffer this. My son has had two operations, the second was to rebuild his knee, due to cruciate ligament problems so this family knows all about knee injuries! Blessings to you!

Wow, Julie! Great lens! I wonder if this is what happened to my knee back in 1999. I was hiking with my kids and knelt down to go under a fallen log that blocked the path, and OUCH. Suddenly I had a bad knee... and to this day I don't dare kneel because it will re-injure.

I injured my Rt knee in Jun 07. Had surgery to repair the medial meniscus in Sep 07. After 8 weeks of PT; I was still having swelling and discomfort. After several months, I then returned to the Orthopedist and returned to the OR in Feb 08. The meniscus had "folded" back, the doctor said he removed a lot of the meniscus without performing a meniscectomy (he was trying to preserve my very healthy cartilage. After another 8 weeks of PT, and now a year later...I am still swollen and the discomfort has increased. I've had a new MRI, which doesn't show any problems. I have also tried the Euflexxal injections (which had no impact for me). My new Orthpedist has indicated that he can go back in to see if there is a tear that the MRI is not picking up or scar tissue in the area...I'm just not sure I want to go through this a 3rd time with no guarantee of the outcome. I'm hoping to get any input you may have.

My mom tore her meniscus at Curves, doing the light jogging on the resting stations. She had successful surgery, but no more jogging. Suggest substituting a hula hoop if you have bad knees!

i just had a meniscectomy a week ago and i feel great so far. i was able to walk after 2 days the there was very little pain all week. just alittle stiffness when bendin but besides that everything is great, cant wait to get therapy and start running again

I hurt my knee the other day. I went to a Specialist, he took exray's and moved my knee and leg around. He determined that I most likely have a tear in my Medial Meniscus. He is waiting for my insurance to give their Ok on getting an MRI. He will be doing this in two weeks. I am in constant pain, can not bend my knee all the way, nore can I straighten my leg out all the way. It hurts to walk on it, so I don't. Should I have a brace for this? Is the pain normal, I have been told it shouldn't hurt that much and that I should be able to walk on it with no problem. Also my upper leg, calf and anckle hurt, are these normal symptoms? When will the pain subside and normal function occure?

Your knee looks pretty darn good in the post op pics, Julie-- I was expecting big scars! I am having a knee problem, too-- undiagnosed as yet though. And my poor little corgi just had two torn cruciate ligaments... because he's overweight! Look for a new lens coming soon, something like: Tubby little corgis are not "cute"!

I am 64 and have a torn Meniscu in the right knee, verified by MRI. I assume it is lateral,
since its on the right outside of my knee. It actually bulges.

My sister had Arthroscopic surgery on her meniscus at age 60 and the results were at best
minimal. Doctors say at my age good results are rare!!

I'm pretty sure I had a slight issue with this--and I am most definitely NOT sports girl. I did it when I fell in a parking lot. No fun--long recovery time, even for a relatively minor tear. Thanks for the information!

thank you for visiting my lens again. you're a doll, and a very diverse lensmaker! Fancy finding this one. I've had 7 knee surgeries between both knees, mostly from basketball, then from other injuries, etc. I backpack a lot and try to keep my legs strong and healthy, but stuff happens when you're active. I learned more from this lens than all my personal experience combined. thank you for great information!

Nice work Julie. I LOVE NFL football and there are a lot of knee injuries. I never realized that "real" people had the same type of injuries.

Ever since I stopped playing competitive sports, both of my knees seem to have fallen apart. They both grind (very audible, not too much pain) and feel loose. Then a few years ago I injured and detached my right medial hamstring and that seemed to lead to my right knee locking out. So I started seeing a sports med chiropractor and he said that I most likely tore my meniscus and thru supplementation and ultrasound I could essentially 'rebuild' it. What are your thoughts? And if you agree, what type/brand of supplements would you recommend?

I did have a meniscus tear and do believe it does run in the family! My mother had surgery on both a month later, just incredible how things work like this!
