Why Tungsten is A Great Metal For Men's Wedding Bands

Men have a lot of options when it comes to wedding bands, but tungsten is my pick! Other good options avaliable are titanium, white gold, yellow gold, platinum, silver, and even a new blended metal called palladium. While most woman have an engagement ring that is made from either gold or platinum, men have a myriad of choices in front of them. Women's rings require those metals to be shaped and to hold diamonds, but men's rings just need to fit on their finger. Again, tungsten is my pick, and here's why:

Tungsten rings are great for a number of reasons. First, they are often cheaper than the competition. The average tungsten wedding band will run you around $150. Comparable price for a gold ring? $300!! That's a 2x price difference. Second, tungsten is a very STRONG, metal. In fact, the name tungsten is literally derived from the words for 'heavy stone.' It's strong! Third, and finally, it is very light weight. Many men who are afraid of wearing a ring will love tungsten because you sometimes cannot even tell that it is on your finger!!

What About Tungsten Carbide?

Ever see a black or onyx ring? It was probably made from tungsten carbide!

To turn a 'silverish' ring black, the Tungsten is ground into a powder with additional carbon and then heated under immense pressure. This is a man made design. Once the metal is cast, the soon to be wedding ring is then cut and shaped using diamond tools with lots of steps required for completion. This, ironically, is a similar process to how the diamond you likely bought to propose with is made. Crazy huh!

A Tungsten Carbide ring will remain polished forever, and is scratch resistant. It is a very unique and resilient metal that many men and women today find desirable. It can be re polished by an expert jeweler at just about any time, so it can always look brand new!

One note about Tungsten. If you ever get injured, the fire department and the hospital can not cut the ring so there is only one other way of removing the ring...
