Being a practitioner of mindfulness meditation for several years, my approach is The Mindful Way. The training of mindfulness may not be exciting or fun but the rewards are solid and long lasting. I am delighted to see it being adopted by therapists in various ways. In my personal opinion, it is a great tool to tackle any problem related to stress, anxieties and depression, provided one has the stamina to stick with it and do it properly.

    Thank you.

In older men a testosterone deficiency can be the cause for depression. There's studies to show that testosterone supplementation can help too. I've written a lens about it if you want to know a little more.

It's a wonderful lens. It's not enough, but I feel you know that. How many times do men back away from any idea of doing something about an issue they don't want to face in the first place? To accept depression is to accept an issue of being out of control: Too often men either react by feeling they must not show they are out of control or, the 180 degree reaction - "I am out of control, therefore I am a victim." Neither way works. Both reactions go straight to the illusion that nothing can be done about this, no matter how much advice is given or solutions are laid out. Have you looked at the ways that let's people choose their way to control how they relate to depression? It's called cognitive and behavioral therapy, but it 's simpler than that - it's making one's own choice how to react to depression triggers - giving the control back to ourselves.

    Hey TrevorD,

Once again, great article. I love how someone is so dedicated to helping people out.

Again, i really would like to also highlight that meditation is a great way to help you alleviate depression. Its great for the mind.

You mention Hypnosis... I haven't tried this yet, or looked into it. Thanks for the little idea i might want to research.

A very open minded lens with thoughtful information. So many people don't even consider the use of medication even though it can be beneficial to many.

I really enjoy your information. I am attracted to similar interests with overcoming depression and using meditation. I think it is vitally important for men to realize the symptoms of depression and to begin to feel comfortable opening up and connecting with others so that they can receive the help they so desperately need in order to overcome depression. depression is not a life-long sentence and medication isn't the only solution.

Great Lens! This is a very common problem and it seems to be increasing in the tough financial times that we are currently facing. Its especially tough on men since they are in many cases the sole provider for the household (which leads to more pressure on them).

Lots of studies are being done on how to treat depression instead of how to medicate it. Mindfulness meditation is one of the preferred treatments psychologists are recommending to battle depression.

Depression is a common psychiatric disorder in the modern world and a growing cause of concern for health agencies. You can be used to assess the presence and severity of mild degrees of mood disorder. Take the test here : Depression Rating Scale.
