Hi Nikki!

I have been reading a lot of your tips and I just had to ask you a question of my own. I'm a guy in my teens and finding it hard to wear the appropriate teenager clothing. I mostly wear the skinny pants with a t-shirt. Please, please help me find a new style!

Your name rocks, Chop! Your dilemma is not new. So many clothes, but so clueless. Not to mock your style, but you have to admit we women are way ahead of the pack when it comes to fashion. But you show good taste and better sense because you wrote to me!

I don't know what kind of style you like so I'll just have to take a guess. Aside from the standard tee-shirts and jeans, your wardrobe could certainly use jackets, vests, cardigans plus accessories like hats and belts. Heck, even jewelry like bracelets and necklaces! And no, I'm not kidding.

* Vests, cardigans and jackets make you instantly preppy. You've seen celebs in magazines look super cool in an instant just by wearing a blazer or a jacket. You can do the same. Just make sure that you choose one that fits you well.

* Trouser jeans. Not your usual denim jeans. These are more tailored-looking, usually with a darker wash, and a more classic, straight-leg cut. What's nice about trouser jeans is that they're as comfy as your usual pair but make you look like a man, and not a boy. How's that?

* Belts. I'm not a fan of fancy, crazy buckles and too colorful ones. Have one in canvas for casual days, and a leather (or faux leather) one with a classic buckle for those dress-up days. Also belts fulfill the primary purpose of preventing your pants from falling down to your knees and your boxers from showing.

* Jewelry. Yes, I am telling you to wear jewelry, but not pierce your face. These days, guys seem to equate jewelry with too-flashy necklaces, bracelets and chains. Opt for a simple leather choker or even those surfer-type necklaces. Same goes for bracelets. Too many wristbands make you look overloaded. A simple watch, a thin leather cuff or metal chain will suffice.

Surprise yourself sometimes by wearing a pair of loafers (clean please) for a change instead of your usual Converse or Vans, or a classic, button-down shirt over a tee instead of the usual plaid. It makes a difference!
