The Importance Of Finding A Mentor

Finding a mentor is very important when you want to achieve success! To become successful in any business whether it's online or offline, you have to be a student and learn from other successful people. To get ahead of the crowd, you need to find a way to achieve the level of success that you always dreamed of. If you really want to become one of the best in your industry, you need to find a mentor.

What Is A Mentor?

A mentor is an person who is usually more experienced and older who helps and guides someone throughout their personal development, and to help someone else achieve success.

Mentoring is used in many ways. Mentoring is the most common in business, It is also used for educational reasons, especially with students. It is also the basic principle behind the Big Brothers and Big Sisters programs.

One of the most valuable assets your career can have is a good mentor.

Get Yourself A Mentor

Look for someone who has created their own success. Follow what they do and ask lots of questions. Of course don't get all weird on them, but watch everything they do and say. Try to pattern yourself to what they do. Most people would take it as a compliment if you try to do what they do, and would be happy to help you achieve the same success.

Become a student of their success. If you like someone who has created the level of success you want, then become their student and figure out what it is that they had done right to create that success. You will learn much more from someone who has already achieved the success that you want. You cannot achieve the same success in most cases if you just do it yourself and keep failing.

Successful Business People Who Have Had Mentors

Donald Trump had a mentor. His father was his mentor and he say's " he joined his father's real estate business in Brooklyn, and I learned a tremendous amount about every aspect of the construction industry from him."

Bill Gates has a very rich and respected mentor, Mr. Warren Buffet, one of the greatest stock market investors ever. And Warren Buffett had a mentor too! Ben Graham, an influential economist. He showed Warren the ways of the markets!

Where Can You Find A Mentor?

The best place to look for a mentor is usually right in front of you. Look around you. Is there a person who you admire and respect? Someone who has always impressed you with their insight or who makes a ton of money and you want to know how?
Maybe your boss or maybe an online entrepreneur. Maybe it's a President of a large Corporation. It could even be the older individual who isn't currently a top executive, but who you know has lots of experience.

Approach that person and ask if they wouldn't mind being your mentor. Depending on the person, and your current relationship, they would probably love to help you out! At the very least, let them know why you selected them, and what you hope to learn from them. If they accept, you can discuss what is involved and maybe have a meeting to figure out what they can do to help.

Don't put off finding someone. What is the worst thing that can happen. They would say no? What can you lose?

Sometimes you can have a mentor and not even know it. They can even be the most annoying person you could imagine and you end up working with them, but they know a LOT and teach you, even though you're probably not very willing to learn. Then, when it's all over you realize how much you learned. Yes, that annoying person you're working with could be mentoring you and you don't even know it. That's where I'm at right now. :)

excellent points...mentors can offer new thinking and guidance. It is important for leaders to keep learning and expose themselves to different perspectives. There is always room for improvement...even for the best leaders (Just look at Steve Jobs)..and having a mentor is an effective way of doing this!
