I never knew that there was a job called a "merchandiser".... Now I know what those people I see setting displays up are called! I like marketing, so this is all quite interesting.

I've been a merchandiser for several years. It's a great way to bring in some extra income. I agree... don't pay to get a job! NARMS is a great resource, especially when starting out. I've had companies contact & hire me through my profile on there. I prefer to work for the company outright, rather than a merchandiser company. It seems to pay more, especially when it comes to mileage.

This was fascinating to me, because the only kind of merchandising I was aware of was what I did for a specialty grocery company, and that was one specific store that I visited every week. I placed an order on Monday, and it was shipped to the store on Thursday, when I'd go in and basically unpack the products, stock the specific locations in the store, and make any price label changes, and document damaged goods. I didn't realize there were so many other facets to Merchandising, nor that one could obtain a certification. This was extremely useful information that I had never seen anywhere before.

Interesting! Can you explain exactly what a Merchandiser is? Sorry if this is a dumb questions -- you just did not address that in your lens and I think it would be very helpful!

    Thanks for visiting!

In the intro, I explain what merchandising is: activities designed to promote in-store sales, including shelf layout, counter cards, mobiles, point of purchase displays, events, etc.

A merchandiser sets things up and makes those things happen. :)

This is a good guide for someone who wants to pursue this career. What many third world entrepreneurs need. They have beautiful products but can't seem to find markets.

I'm a merchandiser too. I merchandise garden plants. Good job taking the time to outline your job and share with others your experience.

Very nice Lens. I was just introduced to merchandising by my friend who works 3 days a week, and just applied for a part time position myself. It will make a nice supplemental income while I am building up my affiliate marketing and virtual assistant services.

I have worked with Driveline,Premium Retail, Retail Marketing Professionals and several other companies. My favorite thing about merchandising is setting my own hours,so I have time to do other things.

I am also a merchandiser. I have worked for Archway (now Driveline), American Greetings, SPAR, MCG Connect, NRG, and MMC. It is true that you basically can set your own hours and you can pick and choose what jobs that you take. Great lens!
