Fantasy Art Pictures of Mermaids

Mermaids and mermen are mythical creatures of the sea that are half fish and half human. They live in the oceans and are mostly depicted as beautiful and graceful creatures. Legend tells us that the enchanting sound of mermaid voices caused ship wrecks and lured sailors to their deaths. Today, mermaids are commonly connected to the Disney version of The Little Mermaid in which happy endings are the norm.

The Little Mermaid

One of the most popular mermaid movies

A delightful mermaid tale that is a retelling of the Hans Christian Anderson Classic. To make this more appealing to young children, many changes have been made to give it a more pleasant ending than the original. The Little Mermaid is a classic children's animated film about a mermaid named Ariel who wants to explore the human world and meet the man, a prince, who's life she saved. She makes a deal with a sea witch in which she trades her voice for legs and is given three days to obtain a kiss from the prince. If she succeeds, she will be able to remain human. If she does not, she will turn back into a mermaid but forever belong to the sea witch.

I remember taking my oldest daughter to the movie theater to see The Little Mermaid and she absolutely loved it and by the time my second daughter was born, we owned the VHS version and eventually the DVD. The movie was such a favorite with my girls, that they wore it out so I would recommend this movie to anyone who has little girls who love fairies, fairy tales, and mermaids.
