Baby Mermaids|"The Mermaid Baby" |Legends of Mermaids|Swimming With Dolphins
I have a secret, a lovely tale, while swimming with dolphins on the Big Island of Hawaii I heard legends of mermaids and they have led me to this place... this place of fantasy? No I think not, tis not a fantasy at all. "The Mermaid Baby" lives safely in the bluest ocean with her little friend a Hawaiian Monk Seal, who is never far from her side.
This lens is about my dear little mermaid baby as well as other legends of mermaids I might discover on this lovely journey of hope.
Sea Goddesses- Legends of Mermaids
I heard there were myths to follow
legends of mermaids
fantasy art warrior women
sirens of the sea.
Out on the water
trickles of light
dancing
on the shores of Kauai
a mermaids tale indeed.
"I have measured every star", she said
Sea goddess of Kauai.
"How do I find the time?
I have taken every dream
and colored them with crayons
sprinkled them with fairy dust
and framed them in seashells."
I sit and think of her often.
I have captured spectacular moments
Water spirit legends
that simply could not escape.
I held them close
heard their messages
made pencil drawings of dragons
fire dragons to save me.
I drew dolphins on the sand
of the ones I've know for years.
Dolphins to take me anywhere
always within reach.
Water spirit legends
tales of mermaids
dragons of the sea
dolphins sharing magic
alive.
I wept for knowledge and its sake
then wrapped all my tokens
my dragon drawings
pieces of sand
glorious wonders
cradled my package
covered in silk
and tied with ti leaves.
I waited for the time to be right
the moon full
and made promises to night.
Legends of mermaids spoke
and I heard them."
This legend or myth?
Sea Goddesses
Water Spirit Legends
sirens
mythical creatures
alive and well
on the shores of Kauai.
This mermaid's love affair
sailors at sea
sings with an island that stands for love.
Out in the middle of the Pacific
it whispers
with every bit of potential
every spiritual lesson
every breath
I could possibly invoke.
Standing on the shoreline
Hanalei, a dragons den
remembering too my lovely Silver Strand.
Treasuring the time
my pencil drawings of dragons
I see
Puff does welcome travelers in.
He hears the longings
of a surfers plea
waves to ride with dolphins
and me.
Wanton cries
I will forever be blessed
by a mountain long and wise.
Legends of Mermaids
lost at sea?
Myths no not ever.
'Tis true these tales
and magic calls
open you heart to see
feel your life
'tis just a breath away.

How To Write a Fantasy Fairy Story With a Child
How To Write a Fantasy Fairy Story With a Child - Crayons & Complete Approval RequiredBy Kathy Ostman-Magnusen
Children have amazing visions, they play and pretend about fantasy fairies, pixies fairies, dragons, who all come alive within their imagination. Why not tap into their brilliance by creating a story, written and illustrated, by your child or your friends child, through a series of questions. It is an interview in a sense.
A very strong word of caution though, PLEASE MAKE THIS FUN for the child and you. If the child grows weary or restless.. his/her imagination is not at its best anyway and you won't create a happy memory with them, nor will you get the wonderful vision that the child does in fact possess. Take out maybe 15-20 minutes of QUALITY time to PLAY with the child. You can even video it, but only if it does not hamper them and create inhibitions.
It is more than possible that one sentence at a single sitting will be enough. Try not to insert any of your ideas, just listen, feel the flow of their conversation and maybe ask a few small questions for clarification. Find the RIGHT time and this experience will give you a wonderful story to reflect on always. NOTES to Parents or Contributor will be inserted below as well to help you along your way.
Remember! The second the child seems to be a tiny tad weary.. STOP and pick it up on another day. This is PLAY and this should be FUN.
What you need:
A pen and a blank tablet in hand that is ready to fly as the words come forth. A readiness for FUN and adventure, prepare your own self by emptying any preconceived outcomes to the story. This is NOT YOUR story.. this is the CHILDS STORY. Be totally unbiased as to its story line. Be an interviewer without judgement. If any of the questions become irrelevant or don't seem to add to the story? Don't ask them. If you think of a question that seems to fit better? Ask it! Become child like!
What your child needs:
A set of coloring crayons or magic markers and a drawing pad of paper. Any kind of paper will do, so don't get hung up on incidentals. Children do not look for perfection in things.. it is US who instills that in them. If the child does not feel like coloring or drawing what you ask for? NO BIG DEAL! Just enjoy their story. NO strict rules.
The most important thing the child needs for this process? Your smiling encouragement and approval.
The questions for the story:
1)
I'd like you to tell me the story of a fairy adventure. This is YOUR story. I will tell you little things about it to help you embrace your imagination but this is a story from YOUR heart and mind.
You walk through a lovely forest. tell me about the forest.
Can you draw the forest?
2)
You continue to walk and come to a clearing. You see a beautiful meadow of flowers and green grass. Off in the distance you see a glorious castle.
Tell me about the castle.
Can you draw the castle?
3)
You decide that you must see the inside of the castle.
OH! What do you see?
Can you draw it?
4)
You meet the people inside the castle.
Who are they? What do they look like?
Can you draw them?
5)
I love this journey, can you tell me the rest of the story?
NOTE to Parents and Friends: "If" the child gets stumped, add ideas for her/him to think about. These elements don't have to be in the story... they are only meant to enhance his/her imagination. Try to feel playful with this, "What color is the water?" is not a bad question, remember this is about freeing imagination. Some of your additions or ideas might be:
1) What do the flowers, trees and meadow look like? Are there bugs?
2) What does she/he or the dragon or mouse or whatever eat along the way?
3) Did she/he bring food and water with him/her?
4) You meet a tree fairy. What is her name? What does she look like?
5) Does the fairy have friends? What are their names? What so they look like?
6) Are there animals that you meets on your journey? What are their names? Do you talk to them? Do they talk back?
7) Does anyone come with you on your journey or do you walk alone? If so what do you talk about?
8) As you come closer to the castle you see it more clearly... what does it look like? If there is a princess who lives inside, who else lives there?
9) You finally come to the front door and decide to knock. The door opens... who opened the door? Describe them, what did they say and what did you say to them?
10) You meet a pixie fairy inside the castle. What is her name, what does she look like, what kind of books does she read? What does she want to be when she grows up? Where would she like to travel to and why? Does she know the tree fairy or any of the other creatures met along the way?
11) You and the princess or elf spend a lovely afternoon of tea and cookies together. It was a most splendid day, why? Describe the tea party. Where do they have their tea party? What do the cups look like, what kind of cookies? Does anyone else come to the tea party?
12) You decide that it is time to get back home. Before you leave you and the princess or elf exchange gifts to remember each other by. What are the gifts and why did they give what they gave? What did they say inside the card?
13) As You gets ready to leave you hug the princess or elf goodbye and tell them you will return. The princess asks you where she will travel to next, what do you tell her?
Have fun!

Are Mermaids Real?
Facts About Mermaids
A mermaid is a mythological aquatic creature that is half human, half aquatic creature (e.g. a fish or dolphin). Various cultures throughout the world have similar figures. The word is a compound of mere, the Old English word for "sea," and maid, which has retained its original sense.
Much like sirens, mermaids would sometimes sing to sailors and enchant them, distracting them from their work and causing them to walk off the deck or cause shipwrecks. Other stories would have them squeeze the life out of drowning men while trying to rescue them. They are also said to take them down to their underwater kingdoms. In Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid it is said that they forget that humans cannot breathe underwater, while others say they drown men out of spite.
The sirens of Greek mythology are sometimes portrayed in later folklore as mermaid-like; in fact, some languages (such as the Maltese word 'sirena') use the same word for both bird and fish creatures. Other related types of mythical or legendary creature are water fairies (e.g. various water nymphs) and selkies, animals that can transform themselves from seals to humans.

The endangered Hawaiian monk seal lives only in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
Hawaiian Monk Seal
Monachus schauinslandi, is an endangered earless seal that is endemic to the waters off of the outer Hawaiian Islands. Known to the native Hawaiians as `Ilio-holo-i-ka-uaua, it received its scientific name Monachus schauinslandi because the first skull known to science was brought back from Laysan Island by Dr. H. Schauinsland. It gets its common name from its round head covered with short hairs, giving it the appearance of a medieval friar. The name may also reflect the fact that the Hawaiian Monk Seal lives a more solitary existence, in comparison with other seals that in places collect in large colonies. The Hawaiian Monk Seal comes from ancestors that go far back in time and are the most primitive living members of the Family Phocidae, having separated from other true seals perhaps 15 million years ago.Description
Mature Hawaiian Monk Seals feature a gray pelage, or coat, which turns brown with weathering. Young Hawaiian Monk Seals are silver with creamy white stomachs, chests, and throats. Pups are black and woolly with fuzzy short hair. Newborn pups are clad in a black natal fur. A number of Hawaiian Monk Seals sport scars from attempted shark attacks or injuries from fishing gear. Females are often scarred by encounters with males, which can be particularly brutal during the mating season. If more than one male take an interest in a single female, they will often kill her.[citation needed] Females of any age can be fair game, including pups. Adult males are 300 to 400 pounds in weight and at 7 feet in length while adult females tend to be 400 to 600 pounds and at 8 feet in length. Pups average at 30 to 40 pounds at birth and at 40 inches in length. Life expectancies are from 25 to 30 years.
[edit] Endangered Species
Hawaiian Monk Seals are one of the most endangered species of all seals, although its cousin species the Mediterranean Monk Seal (M. monachus) is even rarer, and the Caribbean Monk Seal (M. tropicalis) became extinct in the 1950s. The population of monk seals continues to decline and, in 2008, it is estimated that there are only 1,200 individuals remaining.[1] The Hawaiian Monk Seal was officially designated as an endangered species on November 23, 1976 and is now protected by the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. It is illegal to kill, capture or harass a Hawaiian Monk Seal.
Monk seal species have shown alarming population declines in recent years due to the rapid spread of human activity to even the most remote and isolated areas in the Hawaiian Islands. In the nineteenth century, Hawaiian Monk Seals were clubbed to death by whalers and sealers for their meat, oil and their skin.[2] They were also hunted during World War II when the US forces occupied Laysan Island and Midway.[2] Death from predation by sharks, reduced pup survival as the result of human disturbances, ciguatera poisoning, high male to female ratios during the breeding season, and entanglement in fishing nets and debris all have led to the species' decline. These threats have taken a toll on the species, as it has been eradicated from part of its former range, including Oahu, Kauai, and Hawaii.[3] It is currently only found on Laysan, Midway, Pearl and Hermes Atoll, French Frigate Shoals, and Lisianski.[3]
Considerable current research is being conducted on this species, including research conducted by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in conjunction with the Marine Mammal Center. These efforts are directed at the enhancement of population as well as health issues of this species.

Art Fantasy Woman-Every Goddess in Woman
Art Fantasy Woman-Every Goddess in Woman-I Know a TaleFantasy woman
every goddess in woman
I know a tale
I know an art fantasy woman.
There beneath the ferns
my Lily does prevail
a victim of her own
self induced
circumstances.
Such a garden she has known
such a flower
temptations met to know their invisible dance.
Late at night I heard her laughing
a chatter coming through my bedroom wall.
I heard dear Lily step into the forest
past my contentions
saying no
not without following a plan.
This world is actually quite small.
No rules can be broken
no path to discover
put your heart there on the mantle
and walk only
as you are told.
Lily dear Lily
fantasy art woman
how bold and free
how luxurious are your pleasures.
My fantasy art goddess
refused
moved forward
past my still wet map
and bleeding gothic fairies.
Blindly she reaches out on stormy nights
that has always been her weakness.
No measuring of consequences
No watching for the mounted posse
planning her demise.
Lily, fantasy woman
every goddess in woman
rests in our own wishful smiles.
Taking chances
dare I say she is my hero?
Despite my desperate objections?
Beautiful fantasy that is Lily.
Fantasy art woman
I cannot let you leave my grasp.
I had never known that flowers dance
never thought that far.
It was Lily slipping past the night
ready for any enemy refusing her entry
who told me it was true.
I am Lily
I am an art fantasy woman.
Let me be
every prayer
I press between worn pages.
Lord Byron
Edna St. Vincent Millay
let me rest my head in your passion
read every line
know my own
be Lily
a fantasy of art woman
when I need to take her home.
Taking chances
dare I say she is my hero?

Swimming with Dolphins in the Bahamas
Several sites in the Bahamas offer swim-with-dolphins experiences at reasonable cost and for varying swimming abilities. You don't have to be an excellent swimmer to have close and intimate encounters with dolphins in the Bahamas. You can meet up with dolphins in shallow waters on the Blue Lagoon Island, just 20 minutes from Paradise Island, Nassau.
Those ready to swim with the dolphins can do so in specially created enclosures by private operators.
Bimini is the closest Bahamian island to the U.S, only 48 miles east of Miami and a short 25-minute flight. Alice Town is the commercial center of Bimini. It consists of a single quiet road called the King's Highway.
Bimini is known for its spotted dolphins. Half-day trips are offered by Bimini Undersea to seek out the spotted dolphins, which frequent the waters around Bimini.
Atlantic Spotted Dolphins are fun loving, intelligent, friendly, and playful. The wild spotted dolphin of Little Bahama Bank like to swim side by side with humans.
Dolphins prefer that you swim with your arms down at your sides and not reaching out for them. The wild spotted dolphins come to play with you of their own free will.
Your encounter with dolphins can last from a few minutes to several hours each. The relationship is voluntary based on trust, play, and curiosity. Very active snorkeling and free diving are good ways to keep their attention.
Dolphin Swim Info provides detailed information about swimming with dolphins, including profiles of the best places to swim with dolphins: Florida, Hawaii, Cancun, California, Malta, Key Largo, and the Bahamas. Dolphin Swim Info is affiliated with Original Content.
