Mermaid Tattoos
Mermaid Tattoos are another very popular tattoo design theme. These date way back to the time when tattoo were popular with sailors and back to the time of the famous tattoo artist Sailor Jerry.
Sailors frequently got tattoo and tattoo designs that had deep symbolic meaning. Many of these tattoos were based on symbols of good luck and they acted almost as good luck charms to keep sailors safe. Back at that time sailing was a very dangerous adventure and sailors took great risks to earn trade profits. Therefor many of them felt they needed whatever luck they could get. During this time many of the most classic designs and motifs were created. Tattoos like the nautical star and mermaid tattoos all date back to this time period.
Today many people are getting retro tattoos. However, these are not the same old black ink only mermaid tattoos they have taken the older themes and designs from history and then recolored them with all of the new bright inks that are avliable to tattoo artists.
Traditionally mermaid tattoo were for men and up until recently they remained more of a design for men. However, today withthe growth of tattoos for females the mermaid tattoo design is become very popular for both men and women which makes it a great and versitile tattoo.
