What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelium is a membrane that protects most of our internal organs. This membrane consists of two layers of cells that surround the organ. The mesothelium produces a fluid that is released between these layers, lubricating them and allowing the moving organs (such as the heart and lungs) to glide easily against surrounding parts.
Mesothelioma is a rare cancer causing those cells to become abnormaland invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. The Cancer cells can sometimes metastasize, or spread, to other parts of the body.
There are three types of Mesothelioma. Pleura Mesothelioma, Peritoneal Mesothelioma and Benign ( non-cancerous)Mesothelioma depending upon the location of cancer cells.

Family members and others living with people who work around asbestos have an increased risk of developing this disease as well as other asbestos-related diseases. This may be due to the exposure to asbestos dust that has been brought home on the clothing and hair of the people working around asbestos.
