Infiltration

Upon infiltration into the compound known as Shadow Moses deep in the arctic, Snake must enter the compound by any means necessary, undetected. Upon reconnaissance he discovers the plot that his brother is up to. After entering the compound, Snake finds himself facing off against fellow members of FOXHOUND, with untold enemies and untold allies, Snake must complete his goal. Snake must fight through countless numbers of Genome soldiers patrolling the halls, mine fields, and other Hazards.
In this tactical espionage classic, Snake must kill those who were close to his "father", in an attempt to end the coupe before the world pays the ultimate price. With an array of weapons, and innovative gameplay, Metal Gear Solid is an iconic classic, with a sense of puzzles and mystery drawn into an action game. The first of Snake's challenges, is encountering Shalashashka, A.K.A. Revolver Ocelot.
Military Gear
Revolver Ocelot
Trained originally by the KGB, Revolver Ocelot was an enemy of the former Big Boss, but later, finding that they were such worthy opponents, they quickly became allies. Shalashashka has a secret motive within Shadow Moses that Snake is unaware of, this motive is not revealed in this game. Revolver Ocelot has been trained with the use of revolvers, originally criticized by Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3; Snake Eater, he is criticized for the designs and fancy revolver, explaining that even though the weapon has fancy designs, it in no way shows his expertise or improves the marksmanship of the weapon.
In an attempt to impress snake and see what he's made of, Ocelot has a stand off with him; within a room laced with claymores, Solid Snake finds himself pitted against a very worthy opponent. Unfortunately, the duel is cut short when another member of FOXHOUND shows up. Gray Fox.
Gray Fox

Gray Fox is one of the most creative characters within the Metal Gear Solid, bringing sword play into a shooter. Driven mad by memories of the past, Gray Fox possesses speed and agility of great magnitude. Due to the cyber suit he wears, he is a dangerous foe. After his body was destroyed fighting in a mine field with Solid Snake, Gray Fox's original persona, Frank Jaeger, was pieced back together by Medic, Sigint, and Zero. Part of Big Bosses original special forces group. With a twisted sense of justice, Gray Fox seems to kill everyone in sight, except for the man who killed him, Solid Snake. He is among the most psychotic members of FOXHOUND, along with Psycho Mantis.
Psycho Mantis
Psycho Mantis is a Psychotic with a terrible power, telekinesis and mind control. Not only must Snake battle this opponent, but he must also battle himself and his allies. With revolutionary game play, the game introduces a brand new way to play, to avoid being mind controlled, Snake had to switch the controller from port 1, to port 2 on the old PlayStation system. He would read your memory card as well, and list what you had played, thus showing Mind reading capabilities. The iconic line "I see you have been playing Castlevania" is sure to startle anyone. Psycho Mantis, being a master of Psychology pits Solid Snakes fears against him, knowing that he cannot harm an innocent, he mind controls Campbell's Daughter and uses her to fight Snake. Without the ability to kill his opponent, he must knock Meryl unconscious to fight Psycho Mantis.
Roy Campbell

Solid Snakes mission leader, Roy Campbell is Snakes main contact throughout Metal Gear Solid 1, having debriefed him on the situation and controlling the mission, he is behind Snakes orders. Unbeknownst to him, his daughter has entered the Shadow Moses compound and is undercover as a Genome soldier.
Meryl Campbell
Meryl is a soldier at heart, although she is female, she doesn't let it stop her from infiltrating the Shadow Moses compound in an attempt to kill Liquid Snake. Throughout the game though, Snake is encountering Meryl and bailing her out. Meryl threatens to shoot snake upon first meeting, until Snake tricks her into dropping her guard while he disarms her. Meryl is a useful contact to Snake during his mission.
Otacon

Otacon is a Scientist working on the Genome Project, he has been taken hostage and now works within Shadow Moses on behalf of Liquid Snake. Snake runs into him many times, and eventually becomes his friend and ally. Upon first meeting Otacon, he has wet himself due to a show of power from the legendary Gray Fox. He helps Snake gain access to the Metal Gear to destroy it, and other places within the facility. He provides great advice and information for moving through the areas.
Sniper Wolf

With an affinity towards wolves, hence the name. Sniper wolf poses an odd threat to snake. She has pinned him down in a corridor and will not let him pass. Through an odd manipulation of the wolves, the wolves gain an affinity to Snake and he gains the trust of Sniper Wolf. Although he is taken hostage for trusting her, it doesn't stop her from helping him out later in the game. One of the most interesting characters, she has trained the wolves in the area, and she takes care of them.
Captured

Upon being captured, Snake has three choices that change the game slightly. He can either suffer through the electric torture and try to escape his cell, or give up the information and be sent to his cell. Depending on his choices previously and in the cell. There are many ways to break out of the cell. In one instance, Snake can feign death with ketchup, knocking out the guard and escaping. Another, Gray Fox helps Snake escape from his cell. In another, Otacon helps Snake escape with the help of Sniper Wolf; who has taken a liking to the nerdy underdog.

Liquid Snake
Upon escaping, Solid Snake is more determined than ever to exact his revenge on Liquid Snake. After dispatching with the other members of Foxhound; including injuring Sniper Wolf, Snake heads for Liquid Snake, the mastermind of the entire establishment. Upon encountering Liquid Snake; in an attempt to destroy the Metal Gear, Snake attempts to overload the heating conduits by removing the computer chips. Unfortunately Liquid stops his plan and alerts Snake to the fact that he has placed explosives all around the compound. Snake must battle against time before an explosion destroys them all. Gray Fox steps in to help against Metal Gear out of no where, but is unfortunately crushed in vain, although he injures Metal Gear with his sword. Snake then destroys Metal Gear and fights to the death with Liquid Snake on the roof of the Metal Gear mech.
Gray Fox Death Scene
Fission Mailed
Liquid Snake confesses in rage that Snake was the clone created with the best qualities of Big Boss, and he is incredibly jealous of this, unfortunately the opposite is true. Snake was born with the hereditary genes, not the superior ones. As Snake is battling Liquid Snake on the roof of the metal gear, he finds out that Meryl has been injured and will not be able to escape the facility without his help. Snake must choose between saving Otacon, or Meryl from the facilities devastating explosion. Upon defeating Liquid Snake, he escapes with whoever he chooses in a jeep, just narrowly escaping the explosion. Outside of the facility; After escaping and recapping the events that just occurred, Liquid Snake rises from the dead and approaches snake about to deal the final blow and send him into the afterlife. Just before he does; he falls to his knees in agony, his final words being "Fox...die...";
Snake questions this from Campbell; Campbell was ordered to inject snake with a FOXDIE formula, if Snake had failed his mission, the contagion would kill Liquid Snake, unfortunately, Snake had been infected with the virus too. Although because their genes were not exactly similar, it attacks Solid Snake in a different way. He leaves Shadow Moses with whoever he chooses for some well deserved rest and relaxation.

- I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear Solid series! I've played and beat all of the them so far except for MGS4 Guns of the Patriots. I've only gotten about half way through it so far. These games never disappoint with thier epic cut-scenes and game play. I really enjoyed this lens. Very detailed and in-depth.
