Is Metlox a Person, Place or Thing?

The name Metlox is a combination of the words "metal" and "oxide" which are the elements when used together create vibrant colored pottery.

The Metlox Manufacturing Company was established in California in the late 1920's. At first, the Metlox Manufacturing Company produced outdoor ceramic advertising signs but they soon realized they needed to diversify in order to survive. In 1931 Metlox began to produce tableware then soon expanded to include art pottery, cookie jars and miniatures.

Today Metlox is highly valued by collectors for the styles and quality of the workmanship.

Grandma Used This Dinnerware and So Do I

Metlox Poppytrail Colonial Heritage

In 1957 my grandma purchased a set of Metlox Poppytrail Colonial Heritage dinnerware to replace a mismatched set of dishes. She was proud of her new "farm" plates and she said they reminded her of growing up in Pennsylvania.

Spending the night at grandma's house meant I would get to use grandma's farm plates. Having a big plate of pancakes or a bowl of cereal became a game of trying to guess what the picture was under the food since there were different pictures on plates and bowls. I miss those days but I still love the dishes.

I don't know what happened to the dishes when grandma passed away. A few years ago I was at an estate auction and I saw the same dishes that grandma treasured. The set was complete and in perfect condition. I'm sure I paid too much but I wasn't leaving without them. I have been using these dishes daily for years and they still look great.

I have since purchased and sold quite a few sets and pieces of the Colonial Heritage pattern dishes. I always smile when I go to an auction or estate sale and these dishes are there. The "farm" plates bring back a lot of warm memories.

I have a nice inventory of Metlox Poppytrail Colonial Heritage pieces available in my ebay store so please stop in. We also carry other vintage and antique china and our inventory is constantly being updated.
