So the questions we will explore in this debate is is there such a thing as a perfect game and which of these games is the best.

We start off this debate with the question "Does any game deserve 10/10?"
To me 10 out of 10 means that everyone should like the game no matter what as 10 out of 10 denotes that the game is perfect. So tell me what you think on the subject.

GTA IV is also great but the graphics let me down a little...But it sure has made some improvements like the cover system and the variety of pedestrians (you won't notice seeing one pedestrian face again and again in the game) cause of its variety...These 2 games really had a lot of hype..but in my opinion Metal Gear solid is the one that lived up to it.

Ofc there can't be a perfect game. In game development there will always be things that need improving such as graphics, physics, story etc...
For a game to be perfect it must be perfect in the sense that no more improvements can be made to the game which is impossible from my perspective.
You also cannot create a game that will be liked by all people. Everyone has a different taste; what might be beautiful to some might not be to other individuals so making a game that's going to be liked by everyone is yet again impossible; even if the game has features that cater for everyone out there some of the features won't be liked by others.

For it to be a 10/10 it has to be perfect in every way. Meaning that there are literally NO irritations and every can enjoy it completely. The main MGS 4 irritation is the endless scenes (which, THANK GOD, you can pause this time). The irritations for GTA 4 would be the lack of of character customization (besides clothes) and a small feeling of confinement. However, no game is perfect, even Ocarina of Time (HEY, LISTEN!). However there are some games I would give a 9.9 for being NEAR perfect (Chrono Trigger). That's my final opinion.

MGS4 is only really a 7 out of 10 game (maximum). Cutscenes in games are ok, but when they go on for that long it really makes you want to rip the game out of the drive and throw the damn disc in the fire.

No. 10/10 is, literally, perfection. That means that every single texture is perfectly aligned, and not repeated once. Every single model is perfect in detail. There are absolutely 0 bugs at launch. The FPS never drops below 60. Ect, ect. And, on top of that, the game mechanics, balance, skill factor, yada yada have to be 100% spot on. It's just not possible to make something that perfect. 10/10 shouldn't mean that the game is really, really, good (as some reviews use it), but that the game is _perfect_.

As the two are different genres it is not really fair to compare the two, but if you had to Metal Gear is far superior due to how intricate its story is. It is also the end of a gaming legend, Solid Snake. With each GTA you can expect a new character and new background, however it is Solid Snake in all of them, except MGS3 Snake Eater, but that is a different story. Metal Gear is definately better gameplay and story wise to me, but since it is the end of a legend, and the last MGS headed by Hideo Kojima, it would take the cake in this situation.

Typical game play in MGS4: Watch a 20 min cut-scene, sneak past some soldiers, watch a 20 min cut-scene, take out a boss, watch a 20 min cut-scene, repeat for umpteen acts (did we really need a 20 min cut-scene at the end of every act to be followed by another 20 min cut-scene at the start of the next one?)
Now MGS4 is polished to the extreme but it's hard to become immersed in a game where you end up watching events unfold, especially where the story isn't exactly the easiest of things to follow.
If I wanted MGS4 style entertainment, I'd be better off playing Splinter Cell and pausing it every so often to watch Ghost in the Shell on DVD. Exactly same thing.
GTA4 might not have lived up to all the hype, but MGS4 is really a case of the Emperor's New Clothes, with all you fan boys playing the part of the Emperor.

- To anyone who has played all the previous MGS games will know that MGS4 was the BEST ending solid snake deserved, they really out did them selves at Konami. it brought tears to my eyes, no other game had ended on top like MGS4 did.
GTA IV = best freeroam game ever made, niko bellic is a straight gangster who can't be fucked with, but i still think solid snake would fuck him up in a heart beat.

- GTA seems to be a game for the masses, something to pick up and play for 20 minutes every once-in-a-while, but with no depth. MGS4 is impossible to just play for a short time, and wont suit everyone, but get into it and its a much MUCH more rewarding game.
