Great Local Theater

Advantages of living in the mid hudson valley

Oooph Pah Pah from Oliver!

In the Mid Hudson Valley, we are so very lucky to have such varied community theater groups. There are more then a dozen within 45 minutes of where I live. What that means for both Audiences and Actors is variety.

We have local resources to help youth learn how to perform. Individuals who have been on Broadway, or on tour, or both. We have talented musical directors who are amazing. Dance Instructors who choreograph and Voice Coaches to help when you just need that little extra push. We also have a giving community where mentors can be found and friends can be made.

Every production I participate in forms another theater "family" - after working so closely with people you develop special relationships. No two experiences are exactly the same, but each has something magical and special.

Broadway Music

There was a time music from Broadway was on the top 40

I lived in Ashland, Oregon, a small college town on the Calif. border, for a few years. It's the home of the Shakespearean Festival. I can't say. but they think it's the best, in the world!

As a community theater enthusiast, I know any level is rewarding. But great as that festival is, instead of dominating the area, they spawned other theaters, more than a dozen in a twenty mile radius, small theaters seating from 50-150. In a word, exhilarating.

Nice to see so much theater going on! I stay busy with Dallas/Fort Worth theater as a set designer. I'm also Squid Angel for entertainment-theater-stage productions and -musical theater, if you're interested, my neighborhood could use new Lenses!

I don't live anywhere in the New York area, but I have acted in community plays before. Too busy now though. This can be a useful lens for people in the area to learn more about the theater.

One of My Favorite Musicals

Chicago (Full Screen Edition)

Amazon Price: $8.25 (as of 02/16/2012)Buy Now

Come on Babe, we're going to paint the town ... and all that jazz! This musical is actually loosely based on a real story. A tale of murder, seduction and greed ... and an interesting look at the influence of the media in the 1920's. Has anything changed? You be the judge. It has an amazing score including songs like Cell Block Tango, All that Jazz and When you're good to Mama ...

A Dreamy Musical

Dreamgirls (Full Screen Edition)

Amazon Price: $8.87 (as of 02/16/2012)Buy Now

This is a beautiful musical about fame and fortune and making it big ... it tells the story of young women who make it big - based on the story of the Supremes. It has some touching moments, some moments of joy and a great soundtrack. For those who want to relive the 1950's or just love the sound.
