Why do you need home insurance?

Home insurance provides financial protection against disasters. A standard policy insures the home itself and the things you keep in it.

It is really all about protecting yourself financially if something unexpected happens to your home or possessions. That's important because chances are your home is likely one of your largest investments.

Home insurance provides financial protection against disasters. The last thing you want is to lose everything due to not having adequate limits on your policy to cover everything you own.

  • If your home was destroyed by fire or damaged by a natural disaster, you'd need money to repair or replace it.
  • If a guest in your home is injured, liability protection and medical coverage help pay expenses.
  • If you are a victim of theft and vandalism, it can reimburse you for your loss or pay for repairs.
  • If you are still paying for your home, your lender will require insurance.

It is important to know that home insurance is meant to cover unexpected damage, not routine maintenance. Ask your agent to talk about what is covered and be sure to read your policy so you know exactly what's included and what is not.

What Benefits Do You Get From Home Insurance?

Miami Home Insurance

MiamiA home insurance policy offers you and your family the financial reimbursement you will need to get your life back on track after an insurable event. But the financial benefits of having home insurance are not experienced by policyholders unless they endure an insurable event with a financial impact that exceeds their deductible. Of course, that doesn't mean that there are no intangible benefits to enjoy as you pay your premiums each month.

Peace of Mind
When you know that you have an insurance policy protecting you and your family, then you have peace of mind. That might not prevent an incident, but it can definitely help you sleep at night. Without home insurance you are left with a subconscious nagging prompted by the insecurity that being uninsured brings with it. In this state, a lot of mental and emotional energy is used up wondering how you would rebuild your family's life if your home were to become ruined in an insurable event.

Financial Security
Insurance also ensures your financial stability. You probably have big plans for your retirement, your children's educational future and the repayment of all your debt. But without home insurance to ensure that your personal savings do not need to be used after an insurable event, there is no guarantee that you will be able to realize any of these plans and dreams in the manner you want. Instead, you may be forced to use the money you saved just to rebuild your home after a tragedy. Saving money without knowing that you will be able to use it the way you expect can leave you feeling insecure and may even impact your motivation to save.

Insurance is a serious matter. It's not a fun purchase and it is not something that you will use in your everyday life. A home insurance policy gives you permission not to dwell on how expensive and devastating an insurable event can be and the confidence to know that you will be able to recover financially after one.

About Us

type=textFounded on a Tradition of Excellence

Filer Insurance was founded as an insurance and mortgage brokerage business in 1919 by pioneer Miamian, Henry H. Filer.

As an education advocate elected to the Dade County School Board for 16 consecutive terms, 12 of them as chairman, he was honored by the renaming of West Hialeah Junior High to Henry H. Filer Junior High in 1956.

His nephew, Wm. Cleare Filer, assumed operation of the insurance agency in 1950 and provided three decades of leadership. Cleare's son, Joseph C. Filer, joined the insurance agency in 1975 and has spearheaded additional growth and the modernization of the Miami insurance agency.

Originally located in Downtown Miami, the agency is currently in its own building in the suburban Kendall-Pinecrest area of Miami-Dade County. We have continued to provide the very best in personal service for Auto and Home Insurance in Miami and South Florida, as well as Business Insurance.

Did you know? Random Facts

If you are turned off by the premium you have to pay for your home insurance, one thing that can help is by raising your deductible. This is how much money you pay out of your own pocket before funds from your insurance policy kick in, should you experience an insurable loss. The more you are willing to pay, the lower your premium can be. A standard deductible amount is somewhere around $250 but increasing that to $500 or $1000 will help. In the long run, you could be doing yourself a favor, especially if you rarely (or never) have anything happen to your home.

Something else to consider is having upgrades or additions to your house to qualify for discounts. Insurance companies may give discounts for having a central alarm, certain locks on your doors, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, fire escapes, a securely locked and bolted fence around your pool, etc. It's always a good idea to find out what your current insurance provider offers discounts for.
