Introduction To Miami & Miami Beach

Miami is a cosmopolitan playground that attracts 11 million visitors each year, more than any other US destination. This is a sub-tropical city, very different climatically from anywhere else in the USA.

Miami appeals to holiday makers wanting warm sun, magnificent beaches, entertainment in the clubs and bars, a diverse mix of art, music and food, fabulous golf courses, professional sports and a laid back lifestyle.

Most visitors to Miami actually spend their time at Miami Beach, a separate municipality from Miami located on 4 miles (6 km) across Biscayne Bay. The combination of these two cities includes several ethnic neighborhoods such as Little Havana and Little Haiti. This cultural mix is evident in Latin American languages, cuisine and music.

Spend a day on the streets of Miami and you will hear conversations in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese and German. The population of the Greater Miami Area is 50% Hispanic. Dining in Miami offers the opportunity to visit a different ethnic restaurant every night and enjoy diverse international cuisines.

The city continues to attract retirees turning their backs on snowy, colder climates but it also attracts the ultra-chic glitterati, cashed up yuppies, the yachting fraternity and Cuban immigrants.

Miami Vacation Attractions

Miami, and Miami Beach, provides a great base for visiting several major Florida holiday attractions. The Everglades are just a short distance inland and to the south, the beginning of the Florida Keys is just off shore.

The Miami Beach Promenade is the favored spot for skaters, cyclists, joggers and skateboarders. This is the place to be seen.. it's the most instantly recognized beach front location in existence.

Many of the early Miami buildings from the early 1900's have been restored. A walking tour is recommended to see the spectacular rejuvenation of the 1920's buildings in the Art Deco Historic District.

Miami boasts fine museums and gardens, spring fed natural pools, zoos, sports stadiums and of course, the ever present golf courses. Greater Miami has lots to brag about when it comes to golf courses and features some of the most difficult courses in the world.

Miami Vacation Cruises

The Port of Miami has the busiest cruise ship center of any city in the USA. Holiday cruises to the Caribbean and Latin America make up the bulk of these cruises but there are also cruises to all parts of the world.

Cruises are usually well equipped for gambling and open their casinos immediately the ship passes into international waters. Non stop food, games, movies and onboard activities ensure guests are always active.

Miami Hotels & Resorts

Visitors will find a range of Miami hotels and resorts to satisfy all tastes and budgets. From the fanciful restored boutique hotels of the Art Deco district, modern high rise glass and steel hotels, beach front condominiums and villas, serviced suites, budget hostels, inns and guesthouses... there is a type and price of accommodation to suit everyone.

Miami Vacation Transport

As one of the major airports in the USA, Miami International Airport is a major hub for American Airlines'. Most of the major domestic airlines service Miami, including Delta, Northwest/KLM, United and US Airways and Continental. Several economy carriers also fly in and out of Miami.

Amtrak operates two trains daily from New York to Miami. The travel time is approximately 27 hours.

The Metro-Dade Transit Agency runs two rail systems to service the city. Metrorail is a modern elevated commuter train that connects downtown Miami and the southern suburbs. Metromover is an elevated line looping the downtown precinct and connecting with many of the important attractions, shopping and business districts.

Tri Rail is a south Florida commuter train service that connects all the major centers from Miami to North Palm Beach.
