Miami is often referred to as "The Gateway of the Americas" because of its lingustic and cultural ties to the Caribbean, North, South and Central America. Miami is an important center in the Hispanic world and has a large Spanish-speaking population as well as strong economic ties to Latin America.

The Port of Miami is on of the most influential and largest in the United States. It is sometimes called the "Cargo Gateway of the Americas" and the "Cruise Capital of the World".
