From his television roles in Family Ties and Spin City and his block buster hit films like Back To The Future and Doc Hollywood to his real life roll as an advocate for Parkinson's Disease, the terrible dibilitating illness he himself bears, he continues to touch our hearts and leave an imprint on our lives. Here I would like to share his film career from the 80's. I have dedicated a seperate lens to Michael J. Fox Movies From The 90's.

Back To The Future (1985)
The first starring roll in a feature film for Michael J. Fox was as Marty Mcfly in Back To The Future (1985) Actor Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly due to Michael J. Fox being busy filming family ties, but after filming for some time, it was decided that Stoltz was a mis-cast. Fox was then approached again and he worked out his schedule so he could film Family Ties at the same time. Fox has said in interviews that he was getting only a few hours of sleep and very exhausted during filming. Well, you would never know by watching the film because his energy is great in this movie. Imagine what a different movie this worldwide critically acclaimed film may have been without Michael J. Fox. The film won multiple awards and grossed $380 million making it by far the highest grossing film of the year (FYI: the second highest was Teen Wolf also starring Michael J. Fox). The film later spawned two sequels in 1989 and 1990 also starring Fox.Back To The Future Description
The film follows Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a teenager who is accidentally sent back in time from 1985 to 1955 by Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), Marty's eccentric scientist friend. In 1955 Marty meets his parents as teenagers. Accidentally attracting his mother's romantic interest, Marty must repair the damage to his family history and save his own existence by getting his parents to fall in love. With the help of the 1955 version of "Doc" Brown, he must also find a way to return to 1985.

Teen Wolf (1985)
Released the later the same year as Back To The Future, Michael J. Fox stars as Scott Howard in Teen Wolf. I really liked this movie personally. The 80's sort of seemed to have a stream of what I suppose would be called comedy horror or funny creature type movies like Once Bitten with Jim Carey, The Goonies, and Gremlins to name just a few, and of course Teen WolfTeen Wolf Description
Scott Howard (Michael J. Fox) is an average high school student with less than average basketball skills who's social life and game are greatly improved when he finds he has inherited his family's "werewolf gene". Scott, now having the time of his life and on the road to popularity, begins to alienate old friends and make poor choices. As things begin to unravel, he must decide who he truly wants to be and what is important to him and find a way to put things right.

The Light Of Day (1987)
The Light Of Day may not have been one of the most popular Michael J. Fox films, but I really like it a lot. It's set in Cleveland near my hometown and it has some really good music. Michael J. Fox even sings a couple of the songs on the soundtrack and in the film. This is the first time we see him step outside the comedy box - WAY outside. There are some pretty serious family issues in this film and a lot of emotion being displayed.Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett play brother and sister who are lead performers in a rock band, The Barbusters, in Cleveland, Ohio. Patti Rasnick (Jett), is a single mother who has a troubled relationship with her own mother. Estranged from her parents and struggling to make ends meet, Patti lives a carefree rock music lifestyle. Her brother and band mate Joe feel he must provide some stability for his young nephew as his sisters lifestyle becomes increasingly alarming. It takes a family crisis to bring Patti back home and force her to face the past with her mother.
NOTE: Unfortunately this movie is very hard to find anywhere on DVD, but I had to mention it here because I really like it. I found the full film on YouTube and I have added the trailer and Part 1 below... this will lead you to the other parts if you wish to watch it.

Bright Lights Big City (1988)
Michael J. Fox's wife, Tracy Pollan, who he originally meant on the set of Family Ties and married in 1988, has a supporting role in this film. The film is based on Jay McInerney's popular novel Bright Lights, Big City, the book that famously chronicled the coke- and cash-fueled era of the 1980s.
Jamie Conway (Fox) works as a fact-checker for a major New York magazine. His model wife (Phoebe Cates) has left him and he is still grieving the death of his mother a year prior, and becomes obsessed with a news story of a pregnant woman in a coma. Because he spends his nights partying with his best friend (Kiefer Sutherland) trying to smother his pain drugs and alcohol, he is on the verge of getting fired from his job. On a rapid downward spiral, will he be able to overcome his losses and break this destructive cycle?
Casualties Of War (1989)
The story is based on actual events that were reported in "New Yorker" magazine in the late 1960's. It's a disturbing and at times even difficult film to watch due to both the nature of the film and the outstanding emotional performances of the cast, especially that of Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn.Casualties Of War Movie Description
Based on a true story, while on patrol during the Vietnam War, a group of soldiers lead by Sgt Meserve (Sean Penn) kidnap, rape and murder a young Vietnamese woman. One soldier, Eriksson (Michael J Fox), refused to participate and was horrified. Although threatened by the others, he reports the incident out of guilt and moral obligation and finds himself being treated as the villain.
