MJ is the Man

JJ says:

Michael Jordan is the greatest. He changed the game more then any other player ever will.

laker md says:

I am a Laker fan; But right now I have to say Jordan, in the end I think Kobe can be the best ever. Rings count and right now MJ has more. Kobe for half of his career was 2nd option behing Shaq. Jordan was always first option with the Bulls. Now that Shaq is gone. You can see the full potential of Bryants leadership and all around skills in full display. And you can see he is special. In my opinion it's to early to call. When KB retires and it's all said and done. I think you can call it then. But until then MJ is leading the race.

mj all the way says:

all you kobe fans probably never even watched jordan play..your probly youngins who think they know everything..

ripcity says:

michael jordan by far. For those who ACTUALLY did watch the nba in the late 80's and 90's you would know defense was much tougher back then..back then you were allowed to push shove slap and the refs would let it go these days a small little touch is a foul. so when jordan got double or even triple teamed it he was getting pounded, but as for kobe he didnt experience tough defense. thats why i think kobe scored 81 points as well and if thats not good enough of an argument then know this..jordan scored 69 points ALONG with 18 rebounds that game..when kobe scored 81 all he did was shoot. Jordan is simply the best because he played every single game like it was game 7 of the finals.

titan says:

kobe better than mj? what a joke......
just look at this stats
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordami01.html
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bryanko01.html

it's funny that kobe-lovers insist that no. 24 is better than no. 23. hahaha

Lester says:

Michael Jordan ofcourse, because he plays with passion and love for the game and because he gives the fans a performance to remember.. he has great artistry in playing basketball.

Rocky says:

saying kobe is much better than jordan is like saying that larry bird and magic johnson are nothing.

david says:

i say jordan is way way ahead of kobe, i watched jordan play when i was still in my college days and watch kobe this days, he could not even lead his team like mj was, look at LA now, lot of big guys but could not dominate other teams like the bulls back mj's time. the 81 points of kobe is just 81, what kobe can do now other player could also do, but what mj can do back then no one...i said no one can do even kobe at this time

Da mack says:

Michael Jordan is better because he is god of basketball hands down. Kobe, who is kobe compared to michael????????

Roland says:

KObe is very very good but 6 championship never go to game 7 make it the a human can do by my imagination.

Zach says:

Let me put it this way, George Karl stated that Jesus would have a difficult time guarding Kobe Bryant, but Larry Bird stated that God was disguised as Michael Jordan on the basketball court. End of story.

raj says:

mj is the greatest player ever played basketball he is far better than kobe bryant.

JORDAN! says:

Anyone that is old enough to have watched both these players know there is no comparison. Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. Kobe Bryant had alot of growing pains in the NBA and was a selfish player for a long time and did not make his teammates better.

Jordan however always made his teammates better and was the best defensive player in the NBA for a long time also.

Not only the stats but the intangibles Jordan crushes Kobe. Kobe is a wonderful player, HOF player. But he is no where near Michael Jordan.

the truth says:

don't get me wrong kobe is a very skilled player without a question unguardable...But Michael was a offensive assasin who played against much better and physical defense than kobe...when michael took the floor there was no respect shown at all...every player he played against came at him hard...there was hand checking and much more physical defense and mike destroyed people nightly...NBA players today play no defense and they show to much respect and the best dont even guard the best anymore you can't barely even touch anybody anymore kobe has it easy...not to mention mike retired and still won 6 in a decade came back as a 38 year old and still destroyed people...people compairing jordan and kobe's accomplishments by age..you can't do..kobe came in the league much earlier...if you want to compare that than compare the two at 40...check the stats you tell me who's stats are more impressive career wise only one that sticks out kobe has on michael is who scored more points in a game but michaels 69 points 18 rebounds 6 assist and 4 steals was better than 81 and 2 assists and 6 rebounds...kobe's 81 is unheard of but it almost looked fixed with that defense toronto played

Bob says:

I think Kobe is a better baseball player

Hectorhotmix says:

Mj never lost a final, him and the bulls won every championship against pure future hall of famers..kobe and the lakers against the garbage of the east and when they faced the pistons and the celtics in the finals they looked like a joke.

MJ'S WIFE #23 says:

Jordan is the man. cant no ball player out look Jordan there should not even be a compare and contrast about who's better. because deep down in everyone we all know who is better. MJ all the way.

Dino says:

comparing the games now and the past, the era of michael jordan is the most physical games comparing to now, today it's all about finesse, if michael is playing in this era he might average 40 a game....

Steve says:

Jordan the great was MVP five times not six. Only the great Kareem won it six times. Jordan was NBA Finals MVP six times.

Danny Fotinatos says:

Michael, is one of the greats of the NBA, Kobe Still has the court to play for years to come and show what hes got.

josh says:

i say jordan is more of a father to kobe when it comes to baskatball and kobe is my all time favourite player but this son will always remain a son

Mikko says:

i am an mj fan, but this site is not up to date, kobe already has 1 olympic medal and has added 1 nba championship to his trophy case, but either way, jordan still comes on top

martell says:

I say Jordan ,but Kobe is still young when he's done it will be very close

T-K-O says:

Kobe hasnt been in the league as long as micheal to be classifiedf as on of the best so no debate

Hasse says:

Jordan winner by far. Everyone who knows about sports in general knows about MJ. Kobe is a talented player, no question about it, but talent fades. The one thing you have to posses is heart. And there aint nobody out there with the kind of heart and love for the game that MJ has shown the world of Basketball.

NARD says:

Jordan. As a basketball fanatic, I can appreciate Kobe's game, but really Kobe isn't ANYWHERE close to Jordan! Jordan wins in virtually every category, championships, awards, records, not to mention impact on the culture of the game! Kobe didn't even win Finals MVP the years playing along Shaq, which means he wasn't even the best person on his team, so HOW CAN HE BE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME? JORDAN IS THE GREATEST, CASE CLOSED! Kobe will end up in the top 5! Behind Jordan, Jabbar, Chamberlain, Russell! (Well maybe top 10, because Magic, Bird, West and Baylor will also get votes!

jord says:

Michael Jordan.

nickdennis says:

jordan play in a great defensive era of an nba history, nba commisioner said it.why? they even made the defent call. the jordan rule. and mj he got beat all the time when he paly again a team. today kobe era, well you are know it

Jordan says:

Jordan played in a weaker defensive era then Kobe even sprots analyst say jordan had it harder... Kobe fans will make up anything wont they. He scored 81 pts without 1 assist, jordan scored 69pts with 19 reb and had a gang of other stats with it against a better team. When Kobe scored 81 pts it was against a deflated raptors team. Kobe a better three pt shooter so Ray allen a better shooter then kobe but that doesnt make him the best. Kobe has one 1 championship when he was the man and barely at that. Hes the only person i know who can miss 20 shots and still when the game(Doesnt that mean has a damn good team and was playing against a team with a dumb ass coach) amazing isnt it. If jordan had shaq he would have won every game of the season and the playoffs. Lets not forget Jordan averaged 22pt 5reb and 5 assist at the age of 40 past 2000 when he was playing with the wizards. Kobe averages 5 reb and 5 assist kno and hes ten years younger. 45% fg is not legendary at all a number of player shoot 45% but only a handful shoot 50%(Not including centers and power forwards). Point is Kobes good but hes nowhwere near the top of mount jordan. One more thing jordan played in kobes era and dominated for a 40 yr old man(and still shot a better percentage at 40, lol). They just got rid of the handcheck rule a few years back and soon after kobe scores 81pts how ironic right. Kobe fans are brainwashed lil punks who cant see past there opinion for facts because facts are what count opinions, well lets just say they should be kept to urself when facts are presented!!!

Jordan says:

Kobe fans have to be retarded to think he is better then mj... One dude said kobes shot attempt are better then jordans, lol! If kobe made better descisions he would be the the greatest but hes just as dumb as his fans and cant shoot 50% for at least one season what a gun!!!

emanll says:

kobe dodo

emanll says:

jordan was smarter , better defensively (SECOND all times in steals), a BETTER shooter (kobe NEVER shot 50% ) , always made the key OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAY , destroyed opponents (ended many a career Drexler, Magic ,Bird , Isaiah , Patrick ) , NOONE EVER left and came back BETTER !! NEVER had a dominant or decent center (SHAQ , GASOL , ODOM ) AND the stats BURY HIM !! ( 11 MVP's to TWO , 13 scoring TITLES to HOW MANY ?? more steals titles AND NOBODY SCORED 50 on him OR rarely got 20 Especially when he was LIGHTING YOU UP and that was REGULARLY ( 30.1 PER GAME TO 25 !!! )

nickdennis says:

jordan better, because of bottom to top. high school chapm, college champ, and than the nba

Logan says:

One of MJ's championship games I remember the bulls were BEHIND in the final seconds and Micheal had the ball. He was just inside the three point line and, with his team BEHIND, he was letting the clock run down! Then, with the championship on the line, and maybe 5 seconds left in the game, he calmly faked the coverage off of him, and launched the winning shot.

Mark says:

All Kobe fans can say on their side is that players today are bigger so MJ wouldn't have dominated like he did in the 90s. News-flash - that's not true. Average height in the NBA is unchanged (within 0.3 of an inch) since 1985. Average weight is unchanged (within a few pounds) since 1993. MJ was unstoppable and if any of these kids actually saw him live, they'd know the truth. Kobe is awesome but he's no MJ.

don says:

check this out for the argument put to song....pretty darn cool. www.thekobejordansong.com

dmac says:

It is not even close. Shaq was the man on the championships that kobe was a part of. It is more accurate to compare shaq and MJ, and pippen and Kobe. Remember when Jordan went to play baseball scottie had a great year, high scoring went far in the playoffs.
You've never heard people talking about how kobe makes others around him better.
Jordan would have had 8 straight if he didn't play baseball.

kobe sucks says:

Kobe is a tool and should be stabbed!

eryk says:

As you can see this is my fourth post in a row because I can go on and on about Jordan the greatest player of all time or even athlete.I'm from Poland and I'm not a sport fan but since I heard about Jordan my life has changed. And I can assure you that millions of people around the globe feel the same. Now the MJ left I don't care about this sport again but I miss Jordan a lot. Therefore the media is desperate to find the next Jordan but unfortunately this is impossible.

eryk says:

Since MJ left the game the NBA never will be as great as it was. The whole Jordan vs. Bryant is media job trying to capture the old Jordan days in order to boost their revenue. They all wish that Jordan never left so they try to find somebody similar and even NBA changes the rules so the players can score 30 points much easier. And by the way the 81 point game by Brynt.Jordan had his best games against the best, Bryant against the worst because Jordan was a warrior and Bryant cares more about statisctics. The 2008 Finals says it all.

eryk says:

Even Jordan was called Air Jordan, what's Bryant's nikname? want to be like Mike,if he's so great why he doesn't have any nickname. All the great ones have one.By the way I think the ad's song Like Mike is amazing.

eryk says:

First of all it's a shame comparing anybody to the greatest player of all time because you forget about other great players like Magic, Bird or even Pippen. Thanks to MJ Pippen became one of the best players. When Pippen came to this league he was average. And one more thing once MJ became NBA champion he was unbeatable. You knew that Jordan will not let you go down and save the day.

Kevin says:

Stats don't mean shit...NBA Championships do...
Kobe sucks on dogs balls trying to be 'LIKE MIKE'...MJ dominated the airwaves around the world...NBA has never been the same since MJ left...PERIOD!!! GREATEST OF ALL TIME AND UNDISPUTED CHAMPION!!!

Jaq says:

Better in every area of the game!

Logic says:

I'm laughing at the guy named Brent right now because there was a website (don't remember the link) that compared Jordan vs Kobe and it listed 82 different stats in every category imagineable, and Jordan was better on 80 of them. The only 2 Kobe was better in was 3-point percentage and free throws (free throws were 2/tenths of a percentage point). And yet, here he is listing the only 2 things Kobe is better in and saying Kobe is the "more complete" player. That is HILARIOUS!!!

Sebastian says:

No one can compare to Michael jordan.
Hes like one Legend that ever alive.

Alex says:

Perhaps one of the most obvious aspects of Michael's career to consider resides in the years taken off for retirement. Not only did Michael retire in his prime to play baseball, he managed to return a second time to post a 51 point game with the Wizards making hime the oldest player to ever do so. Michael also spent part of his career in college, and Kobe did not. For those that look at career totals over averages, must look at the abbreviations in Michael's career. The man is god of basketball without a doubt. Pete, why don't we start with Michael's leadership in the finals... 6 MVP's. When it counts I would take Michael's complete skills any day. Oh yeah, there actually was defense in Michael's day. Never once did you see 90 points at the end of the 3rd quarter.

mark says:

And Peter kobe has been stopped every year since shaq left. Kobe gets stopped everyear. If jordan didn't retire in 94 the bulls could have had 8 titles. People need to stop drinking the kobe coolaid. He is great top 5 to 8 of all time, but give me one stat, one anything that proves any part of his game is better than mj. not just your opinion.

mark says:

Jordan took teams with pippen and a bunch of garbage and won six titles. The window closed for kobe's stats to reach jordan's level. MJ shot over 50% from the field something like 8 times, kobe's best is like 46 or 47. There is no stat were kobe exceeds mj. He scored 81 in a game and that's the only one. But if MJ didn't have to deal with the hand check he would have hit 80 a few times.

oz says:

kobe is one of the best in the nba and he got there by mirroring the greatest ever! since lebron is right up there very hard to say, wait another 5-7 years..notice how kobe copied mj in everyway!

brahma says:

brahma says

jordan is the greatest player in basketball history because of his ability and athltetism and no one can ever compare to him, he lead player with mvp award and lead chicago to 6 times world championship and lead the bulls to the nba record of 72 wins in one season

Joe says:

Kobe is a great player and all, but Michael Jordan is the Greatest of all time. Even Kobe would admit that. Jordan prevented some of the greatest players to play the game to either not get a title or get one after his retirements. No team has dominated one Conference the way MJ did. Not to mention his bulls have 2 of the best records ever in the league.

von says:

jordan will forever be a legend...

lipak says:

Just look at the stats, and if Jordan was HD, oh man what world we woulda lived in.

RULEBOOK says:

defense is lighter now than it was 10-15 years ago. before you can put one hand on the offensive player and not get a foul. the game was more physical then and MJ still can score 30 points a night consistently. imagine with the space he can get nowadays. he can easily score 100

Coming from the opinion of someone who coached MJ in his prime, but also coaches in the game today, here's Phil Jackson's take on it:

Phil Jackson was asked how he thought an old time player like Michael Jordan would play under these new set of rules Phil Jackson stated: "Michael would average 45 with these rules"

The people saying he would average "Around what Kobe does" are delusional.

With all the ticky-tack fouls, MJ would get to the line 20 times, a game, and with the defenders in today's game (the absolute worst perimeter defensive era in NBA history) Michael would nail jumper after jumper, and he would get to the rim at will.

tonix23 says:

air jordan is the best not kobe ok...................

Manuel says:

I'm really a die hard Kobe fan but I must admit that MJ is the best of all time. He broke records of all kinds and he revolutionized basketball during his era. I know Kobe still has a lot of years to improve but I would say MJ is still the man.

Bishop says:

Oh yea...and ask any coach. Physical talent and size does not make you a better basketball player. So this crap about players in the league being more athletic? It's a joke and all you tools fell for it. Physical attributes don't make up for efficient fundamentals. 80's and 90's NBA teams played far better than any team in this generation.

Bishop says:

First off, this is foolish to begin with. In all seriousness...What has Kobe done again? What Kobe is only beginning to do, Mike has accomplished his 3rd-4th year in the NBA. I understand people like to compare these two, simply because Kobe patterns just about everything MJ did. From Jab step, fadaway jumper, pump fakes, to even the tongue every now and then. But...He's not Mike. He doesn't have a third of Mike's heart, which is truly what separated MJ from the rest. You can talk all you want about how Kobe may have more moves, better footwork, handles, 3 pt shot. Point is, none of that matters when you don't have the drive inside. You have to understand that MJ has been doing this since day one. DAY ONE PEOPLE! Kobe just became the best player in the NBA...what?? 2-3 years ago?? MJ was the best since he came into the league. He was peerless...By a long shot. You can't say the same for Kobe. He already has LBJ and Wade knocking on the door, both of which put up better numbers statistically on a nightly basis. Let's stop this bs.

TheKrusty1 says:

MJ's the Man. True the league has evolved and Kobe's the greatest player playing today, but MJ's more clutch without a doubt. I remember watching Jordan game after game and knowing he was just gonna do something unbelievable. At age 38 he scored 51 points in a games. That was not to long ago.
No MJ=No Kobe
1on1+both player in their prime=Jordan>Kobe(.)

c2h says:

AS what I feel is.. Jordan give me the feel of confidence. When Jordan carrying the ball, I can feel that the ball will go in to the basket. However I can't get this feel from Kobe ^^

Adam25041 says:

Andrew has no clue what he is talking about. If michael in his prime and played today he would still tear it up. You have no clue how the game has changed there is no defense so he would still be amazing. He has the best jumper ever. Don't get me wrong I love Kobe I'm a big fan but Kobe, Bron, D-Wade, and CP3 will never be him... sorry to be the one to tell you Buddy:)

Adam25041 says:

Are you crazy MJ is definately the man. He has better stats in everything. He has more championships and he's just amazing. Michael had something that nobody in this league ever had and i'm trying to figure out what it is.

mac villareal says:

theres nobody near as close to michale jordan.he was a crusher at close games they would triple team him at times he was unstopable .kobe has problems with bruce bowen and ron artest just like labron james, get it right people if michael would play at this time he would destroy the league in scoring and in championships

DTabesh says:

Comparing Peja Stojakovic to Larry Bird??? Really??? Ricky Davis with Dominique Wilkins??? Are you kidding? Unbelievable. I do agree that there are more athletic playmakers these days, but I think competing against the likes of Larry and Magic and Isiah and Stockton/Malone and Barkley and Dominique - all-time greats - says plenty. Hell, the teams were better back then. Did Kobe ever go against the likes of the Lakers or the Pistons or the Celtics from the 80s and early 90s? No. And Kobe never had to take it down the middle against the beasts that patrolled the lanes in Jordan's day: Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson, a young Shaq, Dikembe, Mourning, Barkley, Oakley, Malone, Laimbeer, Rodman ... and many more I'm sure. Kobe wouldn't have the heart to play his game against those guys, like he didn't have the heart to play his game against the Celtics last year.

DTabesh says:

I don't think Kobe even deserves to be in this conversation. It's not even close. If somebody woke up from a 10-year coma and watched the NBA finals in 08, he would have concluded that Paul Pierce was the best player. MJ would NEVER have let that happen in the NBA finals. EVER. As far as I'm concerned, a more relevant question is: who's better, Kobe or AI? If AI had been on the Lakers - with Shaq - he would have 3 rings, not Kobe.

nick says:

only a lakers fan would think kobe was better or even close to jordan

joe a knick fan says:

very easy Jordan 6 titles with different supporting cast....Kobe 3 titles with Shaq 0 titles without shaq.....you tell me who's better...when you watched Jordan play he was the guy you wished they didnt give the ball to when he was playing against your team....oh and for those that think kobe has nicer moves than Jordan ask those guys on the AND 1 tour if anyone has approached them about being a starter in the NBA...if you wanna watch somebody with good moves watch dancing with the stars...

money says:

it is mj because he made more points than kobe

airman says:

dude its so obvious MJ is the best and always was the best..take kobe..Hes a hero to the game but u cant compare a hero to a legend. Michael Jordan was and is a legend to basketball...back when MJ was on Bulls.....more then half of the LA fans were cheering Chicago more then Lakers were being cheered. Kobe Bryant got champions...WITH SHAQ...Jordan did most of it all on his own...overall JOrdan was is and will always be better then Kobe

JEROME says:

KOBEFAN LOOK AT THIER RECORDS ITS OBVIOUS JORDAN HAVE THE ALL ADVANTAGE,,, JORDAN IS THE THE GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JEROME says:

KOBEFAN BITCH !!!!1! KOBE IS LIKE A MOUSE IF YOU COMPARE HIM WITH JORDAN!!!!! KOBE IS A SELFISH PLAYER!!!!!!

Patrick Kinzonzi says:

Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time. There have been many greats who played the game but Jordan edges them out. He was the only player to have no weakness in his game. Whenever he went to the NBA Finals... the outcome remianed the same. Whenever the odds where against him, he overcame them. He also played ih the greatest era of Basketball (80's to 90's) where the level of competition was way higher (Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Julius Erving, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar etc). Over the years, NBA rules have been changed by allowing more fouls in the game in order to enable more scoring. Michael Jordan played against some the greatest defense that the NBA had to offer and he still managed to put up big numbers against them!!! Had he played in today's era during his prime... you can imagine how he would've been embarassing the league's defense (although he did it many times during his era). Kobe is a great player, one of the best of his generation. I would probably rank Tim Duncan over Kobe because Duncan has acheived more over the years (All NBA team x10, All NBA Defensive team x9, MVPx2, Finals MVPx3, Gold Medal, Rookie of The Year, NBA Champion x4).
Jordan had the ability to make his team mates better... a skill that Kobe seems to lack. Kobe set an NBA records for the most consecutive games scorin 50+ points, no doubt it's a great acheivement. But we have to rememebr that he did this agianst teams the were playing below the 500% mark, teams that were pretty weak defensively (including the 81 points against the Toronto Raptors). That doesn't take away the fact that it was a great performance. But it was definately something that Michael Jordan could have done and made it look easy. If you disagree, you could always ask his peers, Magic, Bird, Isiah, Ewing, Barkley, Pippen, Malone or even some of the former greats like Bill Russel.
Jordan was the greatest of all time!!! This statement may not sit too well with some of the other Ledgens that played in the NBA, but in every sports & entertainment, there comes a time when one individual emerges and sets a standard for the rest to follow and admire. Pele did for Football, Muhamad Ali did it for Boxing, Michael Schumacer did it for Formula One, Michael Jackson did it for the music talent/entertainment business. In this case it was Micahel Jordan who did it for the NBA. I am a Michael Jordan fan, but i'm also telling the truth.
It was more than just his stats, it was he fierce will to succeed, drive & determination that set him apart from the other players. When the game was on the line, everyone knew who was the ball was going to go to.... yet they tried to draw up ways to stop him. At times they succeeded, but when it mattered the most, Jordan reminded them who he was.

jerome says:

jordan you are the man please back

jerome says:

jordan is the greatest because his offinsive and defensive attack is great@!!!!!he is the god of basketball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jerome says:

jordan he is the man kobe he is the losser!!!!!!!!

jerome says:

jordan is the best

jerome says:

jordan is the best of all time not kobe, kobe is like a mouse if you compare him with mj

jerome says:

micheal jordan is the best his great offinsive and defensive attack no one can beat him his the greatest of all time!! kobe is like a mouse compare to mj like a god of basketball.

Kobe Bryant says:

This is dumb to even debate. Jordan played in a tougher defensive era and won more titles while scoring more points (in a tougher defensive era), shooting a much better percentage (in a tougher defensive era), while being a greater focal point for opposing defenses, as he had no Hall of Fame center to draw attention away. He also did more on the defensive end. The bottom line is Mike's the better scorer, defender, rebounder and passer with much more accolades. Where's the debate? 81 points in one game...big deal. David Robinson scored 70 in a game, is he better than Mike too? Even with the 81 pt game, and several 50 pt outbursts, Jordan still had two seasons where he scored more per game, one while getting Defensive Player of the Year. Its not even close, and never will be for Kobe. Note: Jordan had nine seasons where he shot better than Kobe's best shooting season.

Joseph says:

I say Michael Jordan is the best ball player of all time because he has so mnay more championships and everything more than Kobe Bryant.

phil says:

mj

james says:

jordan is better than kobe because he had a better iq in basketball than kobe. jordan would beat kobe with his mind one on one. if you can see in jordan games he would step up to the bully and tell them in his mind that theyre going down. to top it off jordan wouldnt let his down when it comes to the championship. jordan didnt have any rivals in the nba finals but there was competition there. he didnt need a dominate center. yes jordan had a supporting cast and his sidekick pippen. rodman rebounding n a good bench. kobe has a good team too. they have a lot of shooters in the team. jordan would find so many ways to score against the celtics team. kobe couldnt take over and pierce volunteered to stop kobe n he did. jordan would not be stopped by pierce. he will find ways to score n he never gives up even if they are bein blown away. all kobe did was just jump shots he didnt bother takin over. kobe is the best in the leagie rite now jordan is a better player than kobe. jordan beats kobe with his basketball iq.

Mario says:

Kobe fans are smoking crack if they think Kobe is better or ever will be better than Jordan! This is coming from a die-hard laker fan who bleeds purple and gold. Jordan faced legends, played without these sissy hand checking rules and girl fouls, and didn't have one of the most dominate centers ever on his team! Kobe is the best player in the league today, but doesn't compare to Michael Jordan! Go Lakers!!!

g.o.a.t. says:

mj never lost in the finals...never

S.R. says:

Eagle --- 55 wins, no trip to the conference finals and lost to a team they didn't under Jordan. A lot of guys stepped up for the Bulls, next year though Horace Grant leaves, Bulls go 34-31 before MJ came back. MJ leads Bulls to 13-4 mark afterwards and into playoffs. MJ had a career of making his teams better in record, he did it when he entered the Bulls, when he came back from retirement the 1st time, and when he came back from his 2nd retirement.

ankush--

They both had a lot of great talent. They both had only 1 Top-50 player (MJ had Pippen, KB had Shaq) but clearly Shaq is a more dominate force at his position.

Athleticism is over-rated when players of today lack the basketball IQ that players had in Jordan's era.

jsommier says:

The case stated in the article shows quite clearly that from a statistical point of view, Jordan was head and shoulders above Kobe, on the offensive, defensive, and winning end.

While kobe is playing against today's NBA greats (Garnett, Lebron, Chris Paul, Dwayne Wayne, etc.), Jordan was playing against the greats of his era (Magic, Drexler, Barkley, Payton, Malone, etc.) If you ask people today, who's the best player in the NBA is, most people would say Kobe, but not ALL! Back the day, Michael Jordan was known as the BEST player and the only reason he didn't get the MVP every time is because they wanted to give it to someone else. My point here is that Michael was head and shoulders above everyone in his era. Kobe is not.

shoot ur eye out says:

For all u Kobe lovers u need 2 wake up and read S.R he knows man they call Michael Air Jordan.

gilbert says:

Fact: Kobe's stats could stack up, perhaps some would exceed Sir Air Jordan but the overall winner is Michael Jordon. He made watching basketball fun.....really fun! I just don't get that excitement watching Kobe play as I did when watching Jordon. The end.

king says:

even a blind person can tell MJ is better than Kobe by MILES.
this debate is ridiculous since we all know MJ is GOAT.

nute says:

Michael Jordan because Kobe STINKS!!!

javier says:

What people fail to understand is Jordan played against a better defense throughout his career...imagine the Jordan rules put on Kobe today...centers and forwards have far more regulations today than when Jordan played...Jordan has more achievements during a harder time in the NBA than Kobe with the 3 second rule advantage.

S.R says:

Jordan did more @ the Cavs in his 69 point game and against the Celts in his 63 point playoff game @ Boston (55 in regulaion) than Kobe did at home against the horrible Raptors team. And keep in mind Jordan did it against a lot better competition. Jordan has 70+ NBA records while Kobe shares about 7-8.

And as far as scoring goes. Jordan has 8 more scoring titles than Kobe, #1 all-time in career PPG (30.14), playoff PPG (33.4) 1 Finals series (42.0) and most points ever in the NBA Finals.

S.R says:

When Jordan first joined the Bulls he guided them to a 14-win improvement and into the playoffs for the first time for the Bulls in several years. Then went 9-9 with the Bulls who were 21-43 prior with the agged Gervin at the helm and lead them into the playoffs. A year after he retired, the Bulls failed to make the conference finals losing to a team they never did under Jordan. Then in 1994-95 Jordan had to bail them out of a 34-31 and the Bulls went 13-4 with Jordan and into the playoffs. Jordan didn't have a whole year to be in basketball shape. From 1996-98, he did....and he won 3 more titles. Even at the age of 39 and 40, he led the Wizards to identical 37-45 records, a 10% higher winning percentage than the Wizards last 3 seasons combined.

What competition does Kobe play against? The Spurs and..... Jordan went against the Pistons, Showtime Lakers, Bay Boy Pistons.....etc. and with handchecking and no defensive 3-second rule and no flagrant fouls (until the NBA put one in place because of the Jordan Rules). Only thing that makes Zone-D harder is because you can legally get doubled and tripled wihtout (keyword) off the ball. (illegal D back in Jordan's day, but was difficult to enforce back then). It's not a true zone because of the defensive 3 and it was designed to increase scoring and to give guys a chance to stop Shaq because no single body could prevent him from grabbing the ball. Quick athletical players like Kobe should be able to break the zone D. Put Kobe in against defensive minded team (04 Pistons, 08 Celtics) sans Spurs, he gets shut down.

Keep in mind Jordan had a career of getting double and triple (and entired teamed), Kobe's only been getting post Shaq era. How does he jump Jordan when he hasn't jumped the elite Lakers (Shaq, Elgin B, Jerry West, Kareem, Worthy, Wilt Chamberlain...MAGIC JOHNSON). Other greats include Bird and Oscar (although he never won a ring). Kobe isn't even in the top 10 unless he leads his team to at least 1 ring (win Finals MVP) and multiple MVP's.

Tom says:

LEBRON IS BETTER THEN BOTH.

Manuel Rodriguez says:

Michael Jordan must be respect. He is the best player of all time ever in the world. Kobe Bryant is a replica and not original. He plays very well, but he can't be compare with Jordan. Michael is Michael. Kobe Bryant is not Michael Jordan, even though he has some similar Jordan moves. In conclusion, I consider that Michael Jordan is a better basketball player than Kobe Bryant. Michael is his father in basketball. The Air Jordan is alive in the memories of all people who washed he’s career.

Terrence Mayberry says:

I am the biggest fan of both Michael and Bryant. Michael Jordan was a superb player with the domination that anybody has seen in this game!!!!! In each sport you have those players that are icons of sports, the number one guy but is debatble. With Michael Jordan he is considered the best and their are no questions about it, he is. As far as Kobe goes he said it himself "There will never be another Michael", and there wont. But to be completly honest Kobe is the closet thing to Michael, and he has the chance to become as good as him not neccessarily better but he's almost there. Michael once said after he played Kobe that he has the chance to become the best player to ever play the game so take if from the man himself. If Kobe continues to evolve into a unselfishess player and continues to dominate his will at those critcal times he will. But as for know JORDAN is the best!!!!!!!!!1

jap14 says:

WHEN CHICAGO BULLS WON 6 CHAPIONSHIPS HE WAS RECOGNIZED AS THE LEADER BUT WHEN LA LAKERS WON THEIR LAST 3 CHAMPIONSHIPS IT WAS NOT KOBE BUT SHAQ.

Jocko says:

That MJ is the better of the two, reason being that Jordan has way more accomplishments than Kobe does. With everything, although Jordan didnt score 81 in a game, you dont look at jus that one game, you look at the overall play.

jay says:

Jordan is undefeated in every championship game. Kobe will never be able to match that feat.

Derek says:

The icon status, the rings, the finals mvps, the way he made his team BETTER, the stats...kobe is dang good...DANG good..not top ten of all time..not even CLOSE to the AIR

Dave says:

It's like comparing Michael Jackson with Usher. Usher may be a good dancer, make good music, be a hell of an entertainer, but to compare the two... the best you can put it is to say "like father like son." Usher will NEVER even come close to making the amount of noise Jackson made; fans fainted, world leaders praised him, martians even knew who Michael Jackson was. Michael Jackson's competition was Prince. Usher's? Ne-Yo? Usher is the present, but will never be more of a presence, and I think that is what needs to be, but can never be compared, because it is an unconscious enigma. I'm sure if you drive far enough... "Who's Usher?"

davonte williams says:

micheal jordan because kobe got a long way but
it will be close wene he does get there

snake says:

For Lizard who says Jordan didn't have competition... HA! Jordan had tougher competition than Kobe ever did!! Barkley, Malone, Payton, Isiah, Bird, Ewing, Miller, Magic, David Robinson, Hakeem, Dominique, among numerous other all-stars were much better than Kobe's competition today. You're living in a dream world.

Dan says:

There's no question the impact that Jordan had on the game, and his legacy will live on much longer than Kobe's ever will. Kobe will forever be remembered as the guy who couldn't win a championship without Shaq. This should not even be a debate, Jordan is the greatest basketball player to ever play the game, and for the time being, will forever BE the greatest.

unwiserflunky says:

There shouldn't be a question now. Your team is about to get eliminated and you come up limping with 8 points in the second half. I agree with a previous poster, Jordan played in a more physical league. Plus, refs weren't throwing games back then either. It's ultimately all measured on rings. MJ has 6, Kobe and Shaq have 3, Kobe alone has 0.

Judhj says:

Because MJ is WAAAAAAAY better.
OH, and he didn't rape women.

bt says:

Jordan played in a much more physical league, in my opinion. Not only that, he peaked offensively in those years as well. Kobe, as good as he is, has had the benefit of playing with a dominant big men (Shaq before, and now Gasol to a certain extent) and also against softer defense. Jordan had... Scottie Pippen? No offense to Pippen, but without Jordan, we wouldn't even talk about him today.

Factor all that in and Jordan still has had better stats over his career. Kobe is good but I think people have just forgotten how good Jordan was...

mel says:

I have 1 simple fact that proves M.J. is better than Kobe. Kobe was the second best player on the lakers when he and shaq won three championships. M.J. was not only the best player on his team when he won 6, but he also made Scottie Pippen one of the top 50 players in the history of the league. Scottie Pippen... the ball boy from Central Arkansas... top 50 of all time. Case closed

yak says:

Kobe would have to end up with 7 rings for him to be considered. matching mj in that catagory wouldnt be enough. all other stats favor mj so kobe has got to do something mj didnt

Jordan says:

Michae Air Jordan. No question about it.

Drew says:

Jordan did it with a mediocre team. He made Pippen a great player. Kobe
appears to not be able to do it with a veritable all star team in place around him. Kobe fans are blind or something.

Jazzy J says:

i think it blasphemy to be having this conversation. after mj hung sixty something points on the celtics back in the '86 playoffs, larry bird caught a revelation: "that was God in basketball sneakers". the comparison is probably too extreme(after all jordan's bulls did lose the game), but you get the point. what bird was saying was, he was witnessing the best basketball player he'd ever seen. and nothing has changed twenty years later. After 2000 years there has never been a greater human being than Jesus, despite the rash of pretenders, so it is in basketball - there will never be another Micheal.

Robin says:

I don't see how Bryant can ever catch up on offensive or defensive stats alone. His performance so far in the '08 NBA Finals isn't helping either. Sorry Kobe, you're still a great player!

Kobe is the Man

Tishon McWarren says:

KOBE BRYANT IS BETTER THAN JORDAN I MEAN JORDANS A GREAT PLAYER AND ALL BUT KOBE BRYANT IS IN A MORE DIFFICULT DECADE IF SUPERSTARS AND HE IS MAKING IT LOOK SO EASY

ballallday says:

wen kobe's career is over he will go down as the best player to play the game, you cannot judge whether a player is better than another by stats.stats are helpful, but these 2 players are just too great to be compared by stats.Right now i would choose michael jordan.I do not favor either of them, but in the end Kobe Bryant will go down as the greatest player to play the game of basketball.

Terrell says:

The mamba is better because he is doing it all right now....running plays, playing defense, and he is by far better offensively.

kimo says:

kobe because i can still watch him

BIGDADDY says:

To say that MJ played against more physical defenses is really a bogus statement. MJ played when isolation was the norm. Illegal defense was so complicated, most didn't give true double teams. Kobe is doubled and tripled with regularity. If you think it is more physical to go one on one with one physical guy, than to face doubles and triples game in and game out, you are fooling yourself. But that doesn't surprise me, because a lot of you guys are like sheep and believe whatever the media tells you. Learn the game and then you will know for yourself. MJ was ushered into his stardom by Nike and the Commish. He was still a great player, but a great player with "benefits". Kobe does it, even though most of them despise him. And for those that buy into the "Whah, Kobe was selfish for years", that is the most stupid argument ever by MJ fans. LA doesn't get any of it's titles, if not for Kobe. It wasn't Shaq that's for sure. You could't even leave him on the court come crunch time. Again, MJ had skills, but Kobe's are just better.

Simon says:

because kobe is little bit better on offense, but wit hout Jordan, there is no Kobe, because most Kobe's move comes from Jordan

Jonathan says:

Kobe is becoming the better student of the game. He realizes his entire career has been under a more powerful microscope than Jordan was. By the end of Kobe's career, he might not be as accomplished as Jordan, but he certainly took approached it the best way possible. I'm just excited to see where Kobe's career is heading.

BIGDADDY says:

Kobe is the best 2 guard ever, hands down. Most skilled player ever, if you know anything about basketball. MJ was nice, but Kobe is twice as nice. Kobe held his own against MJ in his first all-star game. Mike knew he couldn't hang with that much longer (retired second time). Kobe would have the MVP's now, if the voters weren't hating, especially after the Colo. debacle. Should have had 2 of Shaq's finals MVP's (couldn't even count on Shaq in crunch time). He will get the total rings, barring injury. Best 2, hands down.

kobee says:

mama their goes that man kobe bryant! hands down the best kobe... its like saying who were better soldiers the soldier from world war 1 or from now??? NBA is way harder now than in MJs day but mike is still 2 best of all time after kobe leaves the NBA

luke says:

Kobe came out of high school, so if you take away his first 3 seasons his averages would be closer. Also defences are much smarter these days, with coaches and players watching more tapes. Kobe has only missed the playoffs once so far in his career. Plus he should have atleast 3 MVP already, nash should never have won one when kobe averaged 36 a game.

jared says:

kobe bryant is better because back then when michael jordan was playing, basketball wasn't that big of a sport and guys were really just becoming fairly new at the game and now today guys in the naba are stronger tougher, better and smarter for the game. i think it would be interesting to see how michael jordan would do in the league today. kobe is better but not by much!

csdcds says:

they are both

quils7 says:

This is a really hard one because they are both excellent players. Its too close to call

cb says:

to me they are both hands down the best players basketball has ever witnessed they both make great plays and have that killer instinct

Rogie De La Rama says:

Kobe Bryant! He is not there yet, but when he gets there its gonna be real close to say who's better. Ang plus the fact the age that kobe started doing these things, phenomenal!

Tav350z says:

kobe at the end of his career WILL be the greats to ever play the game of basketball. MJ is a great player and he dominated his era, but he never played against the type of high level defense n game plans as kobe does night in night out. mj never matched up against a TEAM defense like the current boston celtics team. (with KG,paul peirce, ray allen) and i can also assure that kobe will win 6 championship at the end of his career (he has 4 now)

say wats real says:

yall just some kobe hater

say wats real says:

yall acting like jordan had no help one he had pippen and rodman and kobe had one person shaq so dont say dat only reason kobe won 3 rings was cause of shaq and if u scored 81 point u not going to have 22 rebounds yall need to get out of da past and open yall eyes cause kobe is changing da game

laker fan says:

kobe is going to b better then jordan n lebron is going to b better then niethre one ppl compare kobe to jordan its close but lebron to jordan not ever close. another point is kobe aint done yet kobe won 4 titles and got a olympic ring. last fact is that today the legue got harder in da past there was just one person good on one team now at least 3 major ppl or on a team.

dre says:

kobe cuz jordan neva faced his own d so hes playin aganst man 2 man everi gam

KB>MJ says:

jordan < kobe. its understandable.if you like michael jordan ur probably 50 years old.

chris says:

kob eis better because he hit his shots and mj cant do things what kobe cant do so my point.mj can't be best of all time forever someone else needs to take his spot.

chris says:

i say kobe because he's a better shooter than michael. and plus kobe is the best in the world.

i say kobe bryant is the more complete player he an shoot three way better than jordan could, he has a better free throw percentage than jordan

Kris says:

Kobe the best ever face it.no one can be like The Black Mamba!

peter says:

kobe is the best jordan is no. 2 to kobe he has better stats but stats dont make a player the best. both can take over a game at any time andjo make their teamates better. but kobe is unstoppable jordan got stopped by the pistons jordan rules kobe gets doubled tripled team and still can score at will. he will embarras your team jordan cud be stopped.

Kris says:

Kobe is not even in his prime. u cant judge them by their stats. stats don't mean shit. Kobe had 81 points in a game, 9 straight 3's and 12 total to set a record. Kobe is a better shooter. we are in different era's now. if Kobe was playing then he would have more awards and better averages, because the competition has changed.

kobebestfan says:

Kobe Bryant is performing at approximately the same rate at which MJ did. I think very soon, KB will be better statistically but people will still give MJ more props cuz he brought basketball to the world.

James Smith says:

I think Kobe Bryant because
he is a better closer and he knows when to shoot and make it at the right time.

MARQUIS WILSON says:

KOBE IS BETTER BECAUSE OF MORE COMPETITION AND MORE SKILLED PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew says:

I was fortunate enough to grow up with Michael Jordan and witness him play and also Kobe from rookie year until now. Jordan was the best player, everyone was on his wagon because really who else was there? All the players that were great players were usually forwards of some sort or freaks (ie. Dominique Wilkins). Dominique was Jordan's number 1 rival well I guess you could put Larry bird in there but lets be realistic someone who is 6'9 and can hit treys and pass but doesn't have the athleticism to sky you pretty much have peja stojakovic and how would you compare him to kobe bryant ... The league has changed so much. Even if the league has gone defensive wise you tell me how it's easier to get by someone who is faster than you or agile or stronger or taller. Did we even see players like dwyane wade or lebron back in the 80's or 90's? We are a generation of freaks. Someone like Ricky Davis would be probably neck and neck with Dominique back then people just weren't like how they are today. Has anyone noticed how there is a lack of caucasian people in the league these days? Watch an old b-ball game on ESPN classics you'll understand what I'm talking about. The league revolves around one trick ponies and just people who are crazy ie Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Howard, Paul like I don't even feel I can put kobe in that group because all he is now is finesse yes he can still dunk decently but he is I'd say the greatest scorer of all time but his generation is passing and it's going to be lebron or wade next I'd go with Lebron because I don't know how long wade's body will last he takes a beating night in night out. I'd LOVE to put Jordan in the league today because he would NEVER put up the numbers he did back then ... never. That is why I'd have to pick Kobe. It's like why was Jordan never compared to Wilt? Just because the league was different than how it was in the 80's and early 90's? The league has changed very quickly so I don't see why it's so far off. Wilt was a freak in his time, Jordan was a freak in his time, Kobe was just a high school kid who could jump half decent but could always score the ball. Done and done.

Benny says:

I say Kobe in just individual talent. Like someone said, MJ did not have other competitors like him when he was playing, but Kobe has alot of big, athletic guards like him. Since MJ was basically the only one of his kind, he dominated that era. Look at the diversity today though, a different scoring title winner every year, and different finals teams. Jordan was fortunate at that time rarely few matched his athletism and overall talent. Today, look at the increase of high to pro talent. That was virtually nonexistent in Jordan's day. Shows you that talent evolves.

kobefan says:

jerome learn to spell first b4 u get bak on Jordan nutts..

kobefan says:

Kobe is better. Look at it. Who played guard and small foward that was explosive in Jordans time? Magic and thats all...In Kobe era u got Tracy McGrady, D Wade, Carmello, Lebron, Kevin Durant, Allen Iverson, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Chris Paul...Need i name more?

LEO says:

I THINK KOBE BRYANT IS A BETTER PLAYER NOT FOR THE RINGS OR THE STATS OR WHO GOT PAID MORE BUT FOR THE SAME REASON I STARTED WATCHING HIM PLAY EVERY SINGLE TIME KOBE TOUCHES THE BALL ITS MAGICAL THE GUY DOES THINGS WITH THE BALL THAT EVERY BODY BODY NO MATTER WHAT SPORT WANTS AND THATS BREAK DOWN THEIRE OPONET EVEN IF ITS 1 VS 3. AND KOBE HATERS PLS STOP BESIDES 99% PERCENT OF KOBE HATERS ARE JORDAN FANS THE OTHER 1 % ARE LEBRON FANS IM OUT

ruben says:

i think its mj but kobe still as a few more years so later it wil be close and 81 points '

Marcus says:

(5)60pts games 2nd all time scores 81 has a better jump shot pure wet and just make plays that make you say wow

Jorge Molina says:

I will put it like this ..the stats on this page show a great player's career- Jordan. What people stop to realize is that Kobe is still playing. Kobe will have the chance to pass a lot the records set by Jordan.
First, he will pass the gold medal stat..Kobe will get his second medal in the upcoming Olympics..which hopefully will happen in chi-town!!And may have a chance to win won after that , if he stays healthy.
Second, he will win another championship..maybe two or three!!
And last , there is other stats there were not in this lens. For example: Kobe scored the most in one game- 81 points! Also kobe has scored more points in consecutive games than jordan.
There is all this hype on jordan to this day, he was the greatest then , Kobe is the greatest now .Let's have this discussion again when Kobe retires.
Jorge Molina Chicago ,IL

ankush says:

You can't look at numbers because the eras are different....It would be more noteworthy, for instance, to compare Kobe to Vince Carter or other heir-apparents....when it's said an done, though, Kobe will have played against tougher defenses.....There is more zone played today and the players are faaar better athletically in the 2000's. Also, Kobe hasn't had nearly the equal talent post-Shaq and pre-Gasol to elp him. MJ had Scottie the majority of his career and during the championship runs. Top-50 player in history doesn't hurt much...

Me says:

Kobe isn't done and won't be for a while.
I also dont think you can judge whose better by thier awards.
MJ had his....It Kobe's time to shine, now.

Eagle says:

I believe Jordan is overated. Yes i said it notice that when he left in 94 i believe the bulls won two less games then they did with jordan the previous year. Only reason they did not win the playoffs in 94 the bulls lost to the knicks because of a bad foul call. The Bulls were eliminated from the playoffs in 95 with jordan because of their terrible rebounding. Although Jordan is still one of the best for you Jordan fans :).

lizard says:

When Jordan was in his prime he had no competition in the league. Kobe has to play night in and night out against far superior competition. Even with all that weak d Jordan never got 81 pts in his dreams. One on one Kobe would run circles around MJ.
