Thanks Michael Moore

This is a lens about why I like Michael Moore. Whoever has visited my lenses Bill Gates' $600 Billion Challenge and Music for World Peace will easily understand why I adore his documentaries. I think that if we had a few Michael Moores on each continent the politician's lies would pass less easily, we would have much less violence around and we would have made a huge leap towards a new world. So I say thanks Michael Moore.

This is not a review lens. Many excellent reviews of Michael Moore films already exist on the Web. My intention here is give the reasons why I like his films.

Michael Moore exposes the politicians' lies

Like the Mahatma Gandhi, I believe that Truth is God. We should never play with it or deform it. Most politicians are expert liars and they will lie to achieve their goals. In Farenheit 9/11 Michael Moore esposes George W. Bush's lies behind the 9/11 attacks and the war in Iraq. He unveils how George W. Bush's relations with the Ben Laden family and how he and his father amassed a fortune not only from the Saudis through business relationships over several decades but also from the 9/11 attacks through their shares in certain companies.

One of the scenes I really liked in the film: When George W. Bush was informed of the first plane hitting the World Trade Center on his way to an elementary school. Bush is then shown sitting in a Florida classroom with kids. When told that a second plane has hit the World Trade Center and that the nation is "under attack" Bush continues reading The Pet Goat to the kids, and Moore notes that he continued reading for nearly seven minutes. Quoted from Wikipedia.

Farenheit 9/11 was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 57th Cannes Film Festival.

He says no to violence and weapons of mass destruction

I am for a world of peace. I am a fervent proponent of nonviolence. I do not think that violence of any sort can help resolve conflicts. I am against the free use of guns.

In Bowling for Columbine Michael Moore looks into the nature of violence in the USA and shows that guns as they are used there are as destructive as missiles. They are weapons of mass destruction.

In the segment It's a Wonderful World he also unveils the true nature of the USA's foreign policy and how it has many times been an aggressor nation.

Bowling for columbine received an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, the Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary Feature, a special 55th Anniversary Prize at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival and the César Award for Best Foreign Film.

He is for a just and caring world

I dream of a new world without greed where every soul will have his place.

While centering on the financial crisis of 2007-2010 in Capitalism: A Love Story, Michael Moore shows how even during economic crisis the maximization of profits is a haven for a few, how it makes millions suffer, how the rich benefit from the crisis and how the poor get poorer.

Of course, for the time being we have no real alternative to capitalism. Muhammad Yunus has proposed social capitalism. Is it the system we need, or do we have to propose a new system which is not based on economics only but which also integrates love, respect and justicel?

He stands beside the weak

In Roger and Me Michael Moore shows how maximization of profits can destroy a whole region and its people,

Michael Moore near the end of the movie: "As we neared the end of the 20th century", as the rich got richer and the poor got poorer, it was truly the dawn of a new era."

Nothing to add to Michael Moore's Proposals

I have nothing to add to Michael Moore's healthcare proposals, except that they should be extended to all countries.

His movie Sicko which was nominated for an Academy Award for Documentary Feature is a powerful investigation into the for-profit healthcare system of the USA. He also compares them with non-profit systems such as the French, British and Cuban.

Sicko was nominated for an Academy Award for Documentary Feature.

Objective v One-sided

Do Michael Moore's movies contribute to the cause of a better world?

Loading

Yes, his films present an objective view of the world

WriterJanis says:

He touches topics other won't cover.

lilyofthevalley says:

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Don't get me wrong, I love Michael Moore, but I think it is unfair to say that his views are unbiased. I had a hard time choosing an answer option because I believe his films are one-sided but I do believe that his exposure of corruption and injustice contributes to world peace. So it's a coin-tosser. But there should be more people like Michael Moore in the world, so I guess that is that.

mahimattphoto says:

I say yes his films make us think outside of the box.

RinchenChodron says:

I may have on the same blinders he has - but he makes sense to me! Wonderful

Brite-Ideas says:

yes, I believe he works hard for the average man

No, his films are the one-sided views of a fanatic

darciefrench says:

I confess,I haven't seen Michael Moore's documentaries. I suffer no loss -:)

Really like Michael Moore. But, as with all media, his work is one of the many sources for us to use in questioning and researching our world...

I like Michael Moore a lot, I just wish that his name didn't make certain groups of people cringe. These groups automatically dismiss what he has to say even before he makes his case. So it's unfortunate that his words can't be understood by all.

Amazon Spotlight Personal Review

The Official Fahrenheit 9/11 Reader

Amazon Price: $4.00 (as of 06/02/2012)Buy Now

Michael Moore's documentary Farenheit 9/11 had unleashed a lot of controversy. The Official Farenheit 9/11 Reader was intended to be Moore's answer to his critics. It consists of the screenplay of the movie and transcripts of news clips, interviews, the V.O text, and song lyrics. Those who watch the movie and liked it but wonder whether all its assertions could be true will find their removed doubts by this book.
