Michael Phelps - 2008 Olympics

Who is the greatest Olympian of all time?

Michael Phelps will come out of the 2008 Beijing China Olympics with the most gold medals in Olympics history and probably beat out Mark Spitz's record of 9 gold medals. Seven of which were won in one single Olympiad.

Recently Mark Spitz was quoted as saying "Spitz also says he could have won 8 gold medals if given the chance. "I won seven events. If they had the 50m freestyle back then, which they do now, I probably would have won that too," he said.

And Spitz thinks Phelps will succeed, "he's almost identical to me. He's a world-record holder in all these events, so he is dominating the events just like I did," Spitz said. "He reminds me of myself."

So it seems clear to all that Michael Phelps will beat Mark Spitz's record and have no problem in the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Michael Phelps 7th Olympic Gold Medal - Bye Bye Mark Spitz

Nothing can stop this guy! Number 8 is around the corner!

Michael Phelps 2008 Olympics - Move Over Mark Spitz You Are Toast!

Michael Phelps has done it!

He has smashed Mark Spitz's record of 7 gold medals in the Olympia. In a very heated event he barely beat Milorad Cavic by a fingernail. Just a mere .01 of second in the 100m butterfly on Saturday at the Beijing Olympics Water Cube.

Cavic's team coach filed a protest after the race, according to NBC reporter Andrea Kremer, but FINA, swimming's world governing body, refused to accept it.

Phelps, was trailing the race-he was second to last (7th out of 8 swimmers) at the first wall but made up for with a fast as lighting turn at the wall. His size 14 feet acting as flippers. Even with his fast turn he was still behind Cavic.

Then in the final meters he shot out and got to the wall first in 50.58 to Cavic's 50.59. Just .01 seconds faster but enough to win his 7th gold medal.

Mark Spitz, as you know held the record after having won 7 golds at the Munich Games.

Phelps final event is the tell all. He will try to beat that record in the 4x100m medley relay Sunday in the final day of swimming in Beijing.

Cavis, who is a California-trained swimmer and who competes for Serbia, beat Phelps in the swim heats as the second-fastest man to swim the event. He almost ruined Phelps chance at making Olympic and swimming history.

Phelps was quoted as saying "Cavic's words before the race fueled me."

Phelps continued on saying "Cavic said it would be good for me and good for swimming if he won" Further he Phelps said "I'm at a loss for words. I had no idea the race was that close. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the wall first."

Michael Phelps has set world records in every event except one. Crocker's record, 50.40 set in 2005, is the only world record Phelps has not smashed in Beijing.

Phelps stated later that tying Mark Spitz's record has been a long term goal of his. Well it seems that this young man has seen this goal/dream come true today.

"In my dreams I always wanted it," he stated. "I thought in the perfect circumstances I could do it."

Spitz marveled at the way Phelps has dealt with all the media attention and pre-Beijing hype since Phelps won six golds in Athens.

"I've always marveled at the fact that in the last four years, he has had to live with a lot more expectations and anxiety that I had to deal with," Spitz stated.

It is safe to say that whatever happens - Michael Phelps has earned his place in Olympic history!

Michael Phelps Facts

Here are some more Phelps Facts

Here are some interesting statistics and facts about Michael Phelps

If you were to count Michael Phelps worth in gold he is valued at about Three million. In fact the 2008 Olympics are in all probability worth ten times that amount of money per year. That information is one reason why the current crop of Olympic athletes begin their quest for Olympic gold at an early age.

Here are some more interesting Michael Phelps facts --

Merchandising experts stated that Phelps who's now the most victorious Olympian with 12 Olympic gold medals, will turn out to be the wealthiest pro swimmer ever, far above the income attained by Mark Spitz.

Some are speculating that Phelps can easily rake in a billion dollars. With that kind of money it's safe to say that he may not need to apply for a real job. He can easily live on that kind of money for the next fifty years.

The Olympic Games have become a huge business since the Olympics granted professional athletes the ability to compete twenty yrs past.

Simply no one has made the kind of money earned by athletic megastars comparable to Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan David Beckham or whose names are globally recognized and have cash registers banging out money everywhere.

Eli Portnoy, chief brand strategist at the Portnoy Group, doubted Phelps -- or any Olympian -- would match the earning ability of Woods who is calculated to become the 1st billionaire jock by 2010.

More Michael Phelps facts are -- Currently, Phelps reportedly brings in almost $five million a yr from endorsements altho his agency refused to remark. Portnoy estimates this ascending to approximately thirty million, in the short-run.

Phelps Fact - A Millionaire Already

Phelps is already the prototype of the modern-day American corporate Olympian with the Phelps Machine in full action before he exceeded the record 9 gold tally obtained by Spitz and Carl Lewis, Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi and Soviet gymnast Larysa Latynina.

Phelps, who became a pro swimmer at sixteen and a millionaire by eighteen, has sponsors, agents, lawyers, accountants, charities, his own website in English and Chinese, and even his own logo with a wave-like blue M and red P over his name.

Inside seconds of Phelps's grabbing his tenth gold medal, Visa issued a special version TV commercial commemorating his title as the most decorated Olympian.

"You need to be out there early and establish your affiliation with the property, Michael Phelps," said Michael Lynch, head of global sponsorship management at Visa whose relationship with Phelps dates back to 2002.

"His performance here will benefit us as it will add to the visibility we will get through this affiliation ... and his earning ability will increase, there's no question of that."

One thing is for sure Phelps will also hold the record for cashing in on his Olympic fame, as well he should and those are what I believe to be the most important Michael Phelps facts !

Michael Phelps Resistance Bands

Most Olympic Swimmers Utilize Resistance Bands In Their Workouts

Looking to get an Olympic Body?

Michael Phelps, in his recent book... "No Limits" gave us an insight into his training program.

One of the ways that he was able to increase his speed, strength, and endurance was by the use of "resistance training." This is not uncommon for most Olympic athletes. Besides spending hours in the pool swimming, Michael spends an additional one hour per day performing strength training exercises.

Now look, not all of us are going to be Olympic athletes and not all of us can spend 8 to 12 hours per day working out -- like Michael does.

However, we can all build a better body by concentrating on exercising 2 to 3 times per week. It doesn't require that you live in the gym. In fact, there are ways of increasing your strength and muscle size -- very quickly and easily -- by just adding a small "tweak" that I recently discovered.

Since many of us don't a ton of money to spend on gym equipment or time and money for a gym membership.

So, I am going to share with you two very inexpensive exercisers that I have discovered that will allow you to develop a powerful, strong and ripped body... in no time!

Michael Phelps Beijing Olympics - 12,000 Calories Per Day

The Shocking Secret To His Olympic Swimming Success

After grabbing his record breaking 11th Olympic Gold Medal US swimmer Michael Phelps, at the 2008 Beijing, China Olympics just recently revealed the secret to his incredible body and Gold Medal results.

The secret he would have you know behind his physique is an astonishing 12,000-calorie per day diet.

This is 6 times the normal amount of an average adult male, but for Michael Phelps this is just a typical day. Of course his diet does go along with a muscle building 6 day per week, 5 hours per day intense training program both in and out of the water.

Here is a regular day in the life of Michael Phelps:

Breakfast

Phelps begins his day and supercharges his metabolism with 3 fried-egg sandwiches, but with a few customized embellishments: cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and, a large dollop of mayonnaise.

As soon as he is done with that light snack he inhales 2 cups of coffee and silently begins working on an omelet which consist of 5 eggs - and grits, a porridge of coarsely ground corn.

Well he's just getting started. Let's bring the 3 slices of sumptuous French toast, with powdered sugar on top to make sure there's no skimping on the calories. And finally lets not forget the 3 chocolate chip pancakes.

With breakfast out of the way, let us take a look at lunch; after all he is a growing boy.

Lunch

I can feel the hunger pangs kicking in already-- right?

Well Michael Phelps starts lunch with a ½ a kilogram - ie a whole packet - of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches. On white bread with loads of mayo to boot.

To guarantee that he will have plenty of energy for his grueling workout he quickly downs a 1,000 calorie energy drink.

A Quality Dinner Time Meal

For most people so far the idea of more food maybe as welcome as a frontal lobotomy, but it is time to kick the carbs up for tomorrows workout.

Get set for ½ a kilo of enriched pasta and to make sure nothing is left out let's eat entire pizza and a 1,000 calorie energy drink. Phelps was recently quoted: "Eat, sleep and swim, that's all I can do."
