Michael Klim - Australian Swimmer
Michael Klim is an Australian swimmer who broke the world record for the 100 metres butterfly in 1997 and was named World Swimmer of the Year in that year. He went on to be one of Australia's leading swimmers in 1998 winning seven medals in seven events at the FINA World Swimming Championships including four gold medals. At the Commonwealth Games in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur Klim won another seven medals including another four gold medals.
In 2000, Michael Klim was one of the stars of the Australian Swim Team at the Sydney Olympics winning two gold and two silver medals. Both gold medals involved world records with Klim leading off in the victorious 4 x 100m freestyle relay swimming a world record for the 100m freestyle in the first leg. His second gold medal came in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay where the team also broke the world record.
While 200 was a highlight, Michael Klim also represented Australia at the 1996 and 2004 Olympics to become a triple Olympian.
Michael Klim won many other international medals in a stellar career and announced his retirement from swimming in 2007.
