St. Michael the Archangel Uttered "Who is like unto God?"

Saint Michael  the Archangel belongs to the Third Hierarchy of  the Choirs of Angels known as Messengers. We first hear of Saint Michael in the great battle in heaven with satan or Lucifer, Apocalypse 12,7.

After the revolt of Lucifer where one third of angels followed him  Saint Michael  led an army of good angels  and armed  with a sword of the light of God raised it high as the two armies clashed. Saint Michael uttered the question to Lucifer and his angels  "Who is like unto God?" in Hebrew it means MI-KA-EL. The result of the battle was a victory for  Saint Michael and his angels.

Saint Michael was then  given the highest honour of all the angels that of Prince of Heaven and he and his angels allowed to enter the everlasting Beatific Vision of God.

St. Michael is mentioned several times in the Holy Scriptures. The Catholic Tradition  has  always recognised him as the protector of the Church and the angel of the Blessed Sacrament and the Holy Mass.

Saint Michael  is also the Guardian Angel of the Pope and has been invoked as the patron and guardian angel of many  nations  in the world.

We hope you will find this account fascinating as we journey along this lens  getting  to know  more about this archangel, the many miracles and apparitions attributed to him right up to the last Century.

Let us invoke Saint Michael as our defender in our daily battles  against temptations and spread a devotion  to him especially in  these times when evil abounds everywhere threatening to annihilate us.

St. Michael the Archangel as the Church's Special Protector

The Church has affirmed for almost 2000 years that Saint Michael is the Church's Special Protector and the angel of the Blessed Sacrament and the Mass.
The Church has given Saint Michael the title of the Guardian of the Holy Eucharist and the Precious Blood.
It is also his duty to preside over the worship of adoration rendered to God and offer him the prayers of the faithful symbolised by incense. And for this reason he is known as the "Incense Bearer".

Up until recently Saint Michael was invoked in a prayer that was instituted by Pope Leo XIII.

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL
FOR THE DEFENSE OF THE CHURCH
Composed by Pope Leo XIII

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares
of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray
and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host
by the power of God, cast into hell
satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

One of the least known official church designated titles of Saint Michael is " Guardian of the Holy Eucharist and the Precious Blood". Traditionally it was believed that anytime an angel appeared with the Eucharist then it had to be Saint Michael. At Fatima an angel appeared with a chalice and brought the communion to the children. It is said that Saint Michael was the only angel worthy to have brought the communion to Fatima.

Up until recently Saint Michael was invoked after the end of the low Mass in the prayer of Saint Michael instituted by Pope Leo XIII. Tradition also has it that he also had the duty of presiding over the worship of adoration rendered to God.
