Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World Resort

For a quarter century Walt Disney World guests have been entertained and mesmerized by this time-honored tradition. This season, Magic Kingdom has added an extra night to the celebrated custom -- meaning there will be 19 evenings of holiday fun. Guests with tickets to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party can enjoy the holiday splendor with lively stage shows and favorite holiday traditions.

2011 Party Dates:

November 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18, 27, 29, and 30;

December 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, and 18.

IMPORTANT TIP: These dates are important whether or not you plan to attend the Party because the Magic Kingdom will close early (7:00PM) and possibly may not include the Disney's Main Street Electrical Parade or Wishes Fireworks on these nights.

Guests can enjoy festive surprises including an all-new Castle Light Show. Cinderella Castle is adorned with thousands of shimmering white lights, covering the turrets and towers like a glistening blanket of ice. The twinkling lights create an elegant wintry effect perfect for the seasonal celebration.

Lighting up the castle becomes a Dream Come True moment as Cinderella joins Mickey, Minnie and the gang for the nightly ceremony. Guests can also see Disney characters in holiday garb for meet-and-greets, and enjoy the dazzling "Holiday Wishes--Celebrate the Spirit of the Season," a memorable fireworks spectacle orchestrated to classic holiday melodies.

"Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade" celebrates the many festive moods of the holiday season, showcasing a series of holiday themes including a Friends and Family Christmastime Party, a sleigh ride through a Winter Wonderland, a romantic Fairy Tale Christmastime, a scrumptious display of Christmastime sweets, and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus in a grand finale. And for longtime Disney Christmas parade fans: Soldiers, Snowflakes and dancing deer are all still in the parade. The parade features original music as well as both classic and current holiday tunes.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party comes with a winter-weather forecast guests can count on -- a 100 percent chance of snow flurries on Main Street, U.S.A every night. And just in case the sight causes a chill: complimentary hot cocoa and cookies are served. Many popular Magic Kingdom attractions are open to guests.

TIP: Wait until the November and December park hours are released before buying your tickets. November hours should be released around August 1st and December hours should be released around September 1st. Because Fantasmic! (Disney's Hollywood Studios) is no longer offered every night, you may want to select a party night that does not conflict with Fantasmic!. The tickets are non-refundable and nontransferable.

Our Opinion: These parties are well done and a lot of fun. Because admission is limited, you can also ride a lot of rides with a very short wait. If money is no object, go ahead and go. One the other hand,this is an expensive event - a family of four will pay around $200 for a three hour experience. If you're already stretching your budget to take this trip, you do not need to feel guilty about skipping this event - you're going to have a great time in the theme parks without your having to add one more thing to the schedule. Since the party goes from 7:00PM - Midnight, this might be too late an event for very small children who go to bed early.

TIP: You may become exhausted if you spend the whole day in a theme park before going to an evening party. Consider doing the party on a day you don't go into the theme parks or sleep in! Another option is to combine this with a day that you'll visit the Magic Kingdom so that you can arrive later in the morning - you can catch any attractions you would've ordinarily done right at park opening later in the evening during the party. If time is short and you must combine a day in the theme parks with the party, consider visiting Animal Kingdom which typically closes around 5:00PM - this way, you won't miss any fireworks or special shows.

Information for people who do not have the park hopper option: You are not limited to visiting the Magic Kingdom on the same day that you are going to the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Your Magic Your Way ticket is completely separate from the party ticket so it is not considered "Park Hopping" to go to Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom during the day and then use your ticket for the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party in the evening.

TIP: Please, please, please - whatever you do - please do not go to Epcot or the Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day. It has been a great year for Disney and it is quite likely that these parks will close due to maximum crowd capacity. You will not feel peace on earth or joy for the time you spend with your fellow man on that day. The Animal Kingdom or Disney's Hollywood Studios theme parks are much better choices. Use a good Disney theme park touring plan to keep you ahead of the crowds and out of the long lines on your December trip to Disney World.

November 8, 2011 - January 3, 2012 - Magic Kingdom - Cinderella's Holiday Wish Stage Show evenings at the front of the castle. A short performance followed by the lighting of over 200,000 twirnkling lights that cover the castel towers and turrets.

November 11, 2011 - January 3, 2012 - Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney-MGM Studios). Millions of lights decorate the Streets of America backlot area. No extra charge - included with your theme park admission.

Candlelight Processional (Epcot) - November 25 - December 30th, 2011. Nightly: 5:00, 6:45, & 8:00PM. A large choir, orchestra, and celebrity narrators retell the Christmas Story in the America Gardens Theatre. This beautiful production is extremely popular and fills to capacity. TIP: Arrive at least 45 minutes early for the 5:00PM performance for your best chance to get in with a minimum wait. Contact Disney Dining and ask about Candlelight Processional Meal Packages with guaranteed entrance to the show. No extra charge - included with your theme park admission.

Walt Disney World Guests are asked to use WDW transportation to the Contemporary Resort - start at the Magic Kingdom and take the Monorail to the Contemporary Resort. There is also a walking trail between the Magic Kingdom and the Contemporary Resort. Guests parked at the Disney World Ticket and Transportation Center (also Magic Kingdom parking) can take the monorail to the Contemporary Resort. The Disney's Contemporary Resort Parking lot will be restricted during this time as well as the lots at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian Resorts.
