Pulling My "Little Red Wagon"

Little Red Wagon

So, why a little red wagon as an avatar? Well, it just seemed to fit.

While doing a search for the origin of the phrase "little red wagon", I discovered an article about a little boy who pulled "a little red wagon of life" around behind him. On that wagon was his oxygen. He needed it to live.

Well, I need my "little red wagon", too. It might not be saving my life like the boy in the article, but it does give me some "life support".

So what is in my little red wagon? Read on to find out what my "life support" is---and learn about the origin of this phrase.

What Is In my Little Red Wagon?

I found the following poem that I would like to share:

Wagon, wagon
Little Red Wagon
What are you draggin'
In Your little red wagon?

Sure, this poem is for children, but it fits what I am trying to say. I put different stuff in my red wagon.

Right now, Squidoo is in my wagon.

In a few minutes, I will take Squidoo out and put in a book that needs to be repaired.

Later, that book goes on a shelf, and I will find that new book that I need to finish reading.

Quite often, there are one or more of my grandchildren hitching a ride.

What matters, is that it is MY wagon that I am filling and pulling around. I choose what goes in.

What does the phrase "little red wagon" actually mean?

A little red wagon can be good or bad:

In one source, Dictionary of American Regional English, page 546, I found a lot of factual information about this phrase. For example, the phrase is most likely to be heard in the South Eastern USA. It can be used with a touch of meanness by saying ,"It's your little red wagon!" meaning "It's your problem!"

But I like the use of the phrase as meaning: "It is my affair," as in it only belongs to me.

A quite funny meaning of the phrase was found in Dictonary of the Amerian West page 221. In the west, miners used the term to mean "portable toilet".

Well, I guess to some nay sayers, my red wagon might be full of it!

Having fun with Twitter
Ok, so I am having way too much fun with the new formats here on Squidoo for Twitter!Even if I do not quite 'get' the Twitter thing, I just jump right in and start creating a list, a storm, or whatever Squidoo comes up with next. Call me impetuous, call me geeky, call me whatever you want, just don't out to lunch.

I need more than one red wagon to put all these kids in!

I am adding this video just for fun.

My grand kids are the inspiration for quite a few of my lenses.

They are just too cute.
