On various forums and blogs i often see people asking and comparing MNF to Market Samurai.

It is my firm opinion that those two tools for keyword research should not seen as competitors, this is like comparing apples to bananas.
Instead, it makes a lot of sense to simply have and use both tools. Each has advantages and disadvantages. While Market Samurai offers a lot of features it is more expensive and also has a steeper learning curve.

Personally i think that Micro Niche Finder has a very big advantage in finding so called "long tail" keywords. This is where Market Samurai still lacks a bit. MNF is very good in finding long tails and it can find those "obscure" keywords and micro niches which Market Samurai sometimes cant.

One of the nice functions of Micro Niche Finder is how you can quickly get an idea about the strength of competition for a certain keyword.

The value returned for this is what James named "SOC", which stands for Strength of Competition.

This SOC value simply appears similar to a traffic light, it can return a red value, a yellow value or a green value.

Red: Strong competition, Don't attempt
Yellow: Possible

Many people are wondering how Micro Niche Finder is calculating this value, and here is how it is calculated:

It is the sum of the Google queries
intitle: KEYWORD inurl: KEYWORD inanchor: KEYWORD
with a logical AND between those three Google operators.

MNF searches the web for occurrences of the keyword and it queries Google to return a maximum of 1000 results. It asks how often the keyword appears in the title, anchor text and URL and returns the value as SOC.
