Microdermabrasion: How Does It Work?
Microdermabrasion is also called microderm. It is conducted on individuals who want to lessen the effects of normal aging process since it softens wrinkles and fine lines on the face. It is also accessed by people who want to minimize the size of their pores, smoothen out the texture of their skin, reduce scarring, and also by those who want to reduce age spots. This method is widely used in several products such as creams and scrubs, in salon treatments and medical procedures in response to people who need to have a lighter, youthful and vibrant skin. Microderm is usually applied on the face, neck, arms, hands and chest.
How Is Microdermabrasion Conducted?
Microdermabrasion is conducted through the use of a compressor device that looks like a hand-held wand. It sucks in air and creates vacuum the moment it touches the skin surface. The device has aluminum oxide crystals that flow across the skin which is then picked up by the device drawing along dead skin cells from the skin surface. The mixture of crystals and dead skin cells are channeled by the device to a disposal bag. The strength and depth of exfoliation is determined by the esthetician or the medical professional that conducts the procedure. The hand-held wand is hovered over the surface of the face twice or even thrice if there are areas that need particular attention such as dark spots, scars and other blemishes.
What to Expect From the Procedure
Microdermabrasion is one of the easiest and safest aesthetic procedures. If you opt to go through this process, you can expect to experience a certain degree of discomfort especially along sensitive areas like the nose and mouth but there should not be pain. If you feel any pain or extreme discomfort, you should immediately inform the esthetician. You should also expect for the esthetician to wear gloves while conducting the procedure. He or she should also wear a mask and eye protection and see to it that your face is free from crystals after the procedure is done, otherwise, it would cause redness on your face. The esthetician must also protect your eyes during the process.
Microdermabrasion is a high-tech and modern skin care procedure and if done properly by the right esthetician, you can expect to have that youthful appearance and regain your confidence. The good thing about microderm is that it is not a penetrative procedure so side effects and risks are lesser compared to more complicated aesthetic process.
