MicroKeylogger Review

Hi my name is Mark and this is my honest review of MicroKeylogger. I don't know your reason for needing a keylogger, but they can come in handly if you suspect your kids are going buck wild on the internet or worse, your significant other found his or her old flame on Facebook. I'll spare you my messy situation.

Let's just say MicroKeylogger will catch anyone who's got their hand in the cookie jar.

When I went looking for a keylogger, I wanted as much information as possible. Even if your "target" is technically savvy and is trying to cover tracks by wiping out browser history and chat logs, MicroKeylogger will foil those exploits!

I wanted something simple and intuitive to use. My experience with this keylogger is below.

MicroKeylogger - How Does It Work?

MicroKeylogger Review - Screenshot of Monitoring setup

First of all, when running, MicroKeylogger is totally invisible. It's compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit systems). You won't find any suspicious icons running in the system tray. And I couldn't find any tell-tale signs running in the Windows Task Manager under Processes or Services.

Since the program won't be accessible via the system tray or program bar, how do you access the thing? By hotkey. You can configure a key combination (the default is Shift + Alt + M) to access the application.

The user interface is well though-out and logically set up. When setting up monitoring, you have the choice to monitor websites visited, files downloaded, applications used, or keystrokes typed - or all four at once. You can also select which users to keep tabs on. (Or all of them.)

A really interesting feature is the ability to take screenshots at predefined time intervals or via actions by the user.

The software has some powerful filtering options if you're going to be using it for "parental control" reasons. You can block websites and applications by keyword. Very simple.

While the program is running in the background, invisible, it will be capturing information. You can set up options to email you periodically with the logs or you can ftp them to a ftp server. (Preferably if you're capturing images, but most email providers can handle large attachments as well.)

MicroKeylogger Review - Pros And Cons

MicroKeylogger worked like a champ for me. I had no problems and the application definitely lived up to the task.

Pros
  • Simple, easy configuration. Nice, professional GUI.
  • Reports can be automatically emailed to you behind the scenes, which allows for "offsite monitoring."
  • Totally invisible even to the most suspicious, geekiest users. I know my stuff and I couldn't find it running.
  • While testing it out I didn't notice any slowdowns in my system or any other tell-tale signs it was running.
  • Good support. I received an answer to my email question within 8 hours.
Cons
  • You can apply web and application filters only to certain accounts, but you can't set a time period. For example, if you wanted to restrict game playing to the hours of 6pm to 8pm, you can't do that.
  • Website has prices in Euros! (Only a problem if you're not in the EU. Prices are auto-converted if you decide to buy.)
Conclusions

I really liked this piece of software. It did what I needed it to do, and it did it simply! It wasn't confusing to use at all. If you're looking for a full-featured keylogger with filtering capability built-in, give the 5-day free trial a spin and decide for yourself if it's right for you!
