Microplace - Investing in Humanity

Ranked #1,485 in Nonprofits, #330,673 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

Investing in People Instead of Markets

Most of us want to make the world a better place. Few of us have the resources to endow a foundation or add a new wing to a hospital. So, we help in little ways by volunteering our time or contributing our used items for resale, giving cash or even donating a portion of our Squidoo earnings to charity.

But, what if we could do good AND realize a return on our investment starting with as little as $20?

We can: Microplace - portfolios that change the world.

Microplace's mission is to help finance the fight against global poverty - inspiring individuals to invest in the world's working poor so their investment portfolios can make a positive difference in the world.

Investors can start building their portfolio with only $20. Once invested, they can earn quarterly interest and, at maturity, choose to either reinvest or get repaid. Funds raised through the sale of the investments are used by the investment issuer to finance projects that provide financial services to the working poor.

I've opened an investment account with Microplace, funding it with my earnings from Squidoo plus an additional $20 - at no cost to me - thanks to the sponsors of Social Capital Markets.

Read on for additional information, articles and links where you can learn how you can help make a significant impact in the lives of the working poor.

BONUS: There's even a link to receive your first $20 investment to start today at no cost to you!

How to Get Started

Three Easy Steps to Socially Responsible Investing

1. Select an investment.

Visit the Microplace website and choose a project that's meaningful to you. You can select projects based on the places or causes you'd love to help, as well as the financial return that works best for your needs. The more money you invest, the greater your poverty impact can be.

2. Open a Microplace account.

Open an account on Microplace like you would at any brokerage firm. They'll need your social security number and some financial information to open the account, all of which remains protected and confidential.

3. Pay with your PayPal or bank account.

That's it!

Now you can start earning a return on your investment.

You'll receive quarterly interest payments made to the account you used to pay for your initial investment. You'll also receive quarterly statements on your portfolio.

When your investment matures, you can choose to get your money back or to roll it over into another investment.

Like any other investments, these aren't guaranteed and you could lose money. Read the prospectus to fully understand the risks before investing.

KIVA

Another way to invest in humanity

In addition to supporting individuals through Microplace investments, a portion of all of my lenses goes to the Squidoo Charites. If you found the information on this lens helpful, please consider donating, too.

Kiva.org is a revolutionary new non-profit that allows individuals to loan as little as $25 to low-income entrepreneurs in the developing world (microfinance). By doing so, these individuals provide affordable working capital for the poor (money to buy a sewing machine, livestock, etc.), empowering them to earn their way out of poverty. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), lenders receive email journal updates from businesses they've sponsored, and as loans are repaid lenders get their loan money back.

Kiva is the world's first online lending platform connecting online lenders to entrepreneurs across the globe. Make a loan to an entrepreneur in the developing world for as little as $25.
