Everything You Need To Know About Micro Ring Extensions
My favourite hair extension type has to be the micro ring method. This method (like many extension methods) has heaps of names such as loop and easy ring extensions.
On this page I'll give you all the information you need to make an informed decision about whether micro rings are right for you. I'll show you some detailed instructions for adding them and also will let you know the pros and cons of this method.
If you have anything to add about micro ring extensions, I'd love for you to contribute by using the Comments Section at the bottom of the page. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions :)

Pros And Cons Of Micro Ring Extensions
I strongly recommend you have a read of this section to decide if this method is best for you. No type of extension is suitable for everyone, they all have good and bad points. But from my experience, these extensions are reliable, cost effective and very popular with the vast majority of my clients.
Pros
-Relatively easy to add
-No heat of glue which have the potential to damage your hair.
-Easy to remove and adjust the extensions
-Provide a natural look and a virtually undetectable
Cons
-Rings are detectable if you have very short hair (a few inches)
-If you want extensions for just one night, clip ons would be the better option.
-Not recommended if you have easily breakable hair.

How To Add Micro Ring Extensions
When you first look at the instructions, it may look a bit daunting. It seems like a lot of steps but once you've added a few of them it becomes a quick, simple process. Although I add extensions to my own head and I know of lots of other girls who do this also, I recommend you get someone to help add them. It gets a quite hard on your arms reaching behind your head for over an hour!
I am going to go through the steps here and you can also take a look at some pictures below showing each step. To help make things clearer I will work on a video showing the steps as well and will add this asap.
Step 1: Gather a strand of natural hair.
Step 2: With your other hand, take a micro ring extension and place the loop over your thumb and forefinger.
Step 3: Pull the natural hair through the plastic loop using your thumb and index finger.
Step 4: Hold the micro ring with one hand and the plastic guiding loop with the other.
Step 5: Pull the plastic guiding loop so that the natural hair begins threading through the micro ring.
Step 6: Pull the natural hair completely through the ring and discard the plastic loop.
Step 7: Use pliers to squeeze the ring shut. Squeeze firmly but it isn't necessary to really crush the ring closed. That can damage the ring and also your hair.
Step 8: Repeat the previous steps by adding extensions in rows. How closely you place the extensions apart and how many rows you add will depend a bit on the person's head, hair type and the number of extensions you are adding.

A Step By Step Picture Guide

An Important Hair Care Note
When you choose a hair care product, DONT BUY CHEAP. Caring for your hair extensions is really important. If you're going to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars getting hair extensions, it's worth while spending a bit extra to get quality hair care products.
The good and the bad suppliers can be found at a website called Rate Hair Extensions
Personally, I've tried a few of the cheap brands with extensions. I won't name those nasty brands of shampoo and conditioner, but if you want to find them, just go to the supermarket and you'll find a huge display of what not to buy. Why shouldn't you buy cheap haircare products? If it's used on your normal hair you can get away with it. But hair extensions won't be as forgiving. The hair will be harder to manage and won't last as long.
But there is another reason I have found to avoid cheap haircare products. If you use the micro rings with the hair pre-glued to the ring, then some haircare products tend to break down the glue. The result is that the hair can shed or the rings can slip out. I have found the same problem can arise with fusion extensions.
So what is the conclusion...
Go to a specialty supplier of hair products or your hairdresser and have a chat about what's best for you. Alternatively you could buy from a reputable online seller, but you may not get the same level of customer service though.

- I'd like to wish all visitors to this page a very merry xmas and happy new year! If you have any questions or comments related to hair extensions feel free to leave a comment here and I'll respond promptly.
I have to say, in 2010 there have been some interesting new developments in micro ring extensions with new technologies allowing for more effective, smaller micro rings. This has gone a long way to improving the natural look of micro ring extensions and I'm looking forward to 2011 to see what new innovations will arrive on the market.

- Hi Kristina, from my experience, Ive found that your natural hair will grow at the same speed with micro ring extensions added. These extensions can cause some hair shedding, but I have found this to be the case with all extension methods. If you have weak hair and are concerned about breakage I recommend seeing a trichologist or simply use clip ons so that you can easily stop wearing them if excessive shedding occurs. Good luck with your extensions, most people I find have a fantastic experience with them :)
