What can cause the bonds to split or have slippage?
  • salonhair Apr 23, 2012 @ 6:56 am | delete
Elaina, Wear and tear if they are getting old; opening and shutting a few times with pliers will often cause damage. Slippage can be caused from not enough natural hair being pulled into the ring. Also some hair care products can cause slippage. And finally, some natural hair can be very high in oil which can cause slippage. These have been the main reasons I have found.

My hair is medium thick, and falls to just at my shoulders. Would micro rings be a good option, or should I use another type of extension?
  • salonhair Apr 23, 2012 @ 6:52 am | delete
Emily, micro rings would be fine for your needs and the rings would be covered by your natural hair. However, you could easily use tape extensions or clip ons with just as much success. It comes down to what method you are more comfortable with.

I'd like to wish all visitors to this page a very merry xmas and happy new year! If you have any questions or comments related to hair extensions feel free to leave a comment here and I'll respond promptly.

I have to say, in 2010 there have been some interesting new developments in micro ring extensions with new technologies allowing for more effective, smaller micro rings. This has gone a long way to improving the natural look of micro ring extensions and I'm looking forward to 2011 to see what new innovations will arrive on the market.

so ive ben wanting to get hair extensions for the longest nd ive looked up everything nd i came to the conclusion that micro loop hair extensions were the best option but i have a few questions like i wanna grow out my hair long but in the mean time i wana wear extensions will these extensions effect my hair growth ? right now my hair is about three inches under my shoulder
  • salonhair Aug 13, 2010 @ 11:29 pm | delete
Hi Kristina, from my experience, Ive found that your natural hair will grow at the same speed with micro ring extensions added. These extensions can cause some hair shedding, but I have found this to be the case with all extension methods. If you have weak hair and are concerned about breakage I recommend seeing a trichologist or simply use clip ons so that you can easily stop wearing them if excessive shedding occurs. Good luck with your extensions, most people I find have a fantastic experience with them :)

i have just had micro lopp hair extension put in but i ont know why do they just keep slipping out can anyone give me any tips thanks
  • Angie Jul 25, 2010 @ 5:55 am | delete
Yeh, know what you mean, mine keep sliding out too, why do they keep doing this, are the rings to small, not enough hair in them, not clamped hard enough??? what a waste of money!!!
  • salonhair Aug 13, 2010 @ 11:15 pm | delete
There are 3 main reasons for slipping:

    1. Hair type: Micro rings aren't ideal if you have high oil content in your hair. I'd have to say this is quite rare to have such high oil content that it causes slippage. I've had a few clients like this and the only thing I can suggest is using a second micro ring. This usually stops the problem but it increases the chance of the rings being visible. Also, it isn't as comfortable because you have double the micro rings in your hair.

    2. Hair Care Products: Using conditioners right up close to the roots can cause slippage. Also, poor quality shampoo and conditioner is really bad for extensions.

    3. Application Method: The hair extensions you've purchased may not have been added correctly. Did you pull enough hair through each ring? Not pulling enough hair through can cause slippping.

I hope this helps you and anyone else having this problem.

Hi, does youe extensionist nip the ends off the tips once they are clamped in place?
  • girlva18 Aug 16, 2010 @ 8:20 am | delete
who did your hair because they should not slip out if you went to the shop

Ok, so i have been wearing clip-in hair extensions for about three years now, and its getting really tiring having to put the in everyday and take them out. But i just dont like my hair without extensions anymore and i wanted to find an easier way to have extensions. So i have been browsing a lot, and a lot of websites said that micro rings were easy to manage and usually last up to 4-6 months depending. But i was wondering how much they cost generally?
  • salonhair Nov 17, 2009 @ 9:12 pm | delete
Hi Ashley, the number of extensions required depends on your hair type. If you have very fine hair you can get away with adding a lot less than if you have thick hair. Also, different suppliers have different weight hair extensions so it is hard to be exact when it comes to the number required. But as a general rule, 100 extensions is good for a half head and 200 is better for a full head which gives you lots of length and volume. I very rarely find that clients need more than 200 extensions.

You can buy micro ring extensions from a lot of different suppliers online, but it can be a real gamble as to what quality you'll get. You can visit www.salonhair.com.au to get high quality human hair extensions (they ship worldwide using registered post). You can get micro ring extensions or clip ons if you want to try a temporary method first.

I am looking in to buying some hair extensions to wear on my graduation night but I would also like to have the perment ones for teh time being. I live and a very secluded area in Labrador Canada and I have to buy them online. I was wondering if you have any sites that have a good qulity product but isnt that exspensive. Also I was wondering how many i would have to buy to cover my whole head.
    Thanks!,
    Ashley Rae

Hi Krystle, Thanks for your comment. I know of several hair extensions technicians (inclusing myself!) who have tried the extensions you mentioned. They look great but unfortunately they just don't have the hold of the bigger ones. The extensions slip out way too quickly and it just frustrates the client. At the end of the day, the bigger ones are still comfortable to wear and they're really hard to detect if added correctly. But I'd love for you to provide more feedback on your experience with these extensions after you've trialled them for a few months :)
