About the Microsoft Surface
Microsoft's groundbreaking idea, the "Surface," is a computer that is stated to replace current fashioned computer systems so that the usage of a keyboard and mouse are no longer necessary. Instead, users of this computer will be able to manipulate objects on the screen by voice, touch, and usage of a stylus. The display of the unit is protected by hard plastic, and can interact with other products placed on top of it, including digital cameras and cell phones, without the need to plug in a cable. It even goes so much as to interacting with mundane objects, like drinking glasses - truly showing us what the future has in store for touch technology. As a result of these touch-responsive capabilities, the product will be able to act much like a kiosk - and be able to facilitate restaurant orders or other purchases.Using familiar PC-related practices such as drag-and-drop, a Surface user can simply manipulate objects on the screen by dragging them with their fingers. As seen in the demo videos, this capability is monumental as it even allows oneself to drag and drop MP3 files directly onto a Zune MP3 player that is placed upon the Surface screen. Similarly, files can be transferred amongst mobile devices in this same fashion (place two devices on the screen, and drag-and-drop files from one to the other, using your finger).

How to Buy a Microsoft Surface
The Microsoft Surface was originally slated for release in November 2007 to corporate investors, but that date was pushed back to Spring 2008 shortly afterward. The Microsoft Surface is priced at approximately $10,000 for a single unit. This price is intended to be gradually lowered over the proceeding five years, to accommodate consumers. The Surface is expected to be primarily used by commercial services, such as restaurants and hotel lobbies. Microsoft began its media blitz for the Surface, as it has made its way across various technology expos in North America.
Currently, the only way to buy the Microsoft Surface is directly through Microsoft, after filling out a purchase request form. The Surface is not available for sale anywhere else, either through retail centers or internet shopping sites.

Seems to be a strange technology to me, but what do I know about the direction of technology--I wrote a book on the Tablet PC!
