Things to do before you submit pictures
Microstock is the latest vogue in stock photography. It looks very much as though it will soon be more popular with clients than regular stock photography. Hundreds of Microstock companies are springing up due to the advent of digital cameras and reasonably priced software to run a microstock company. Microstock is similar to regular stock but is generally a lot cheaper and relies on volume to make profits. Some companies work on a monthly subscription and pay photographers a low fee when a designer downloads a picture. The advantage to photographers though is that if a pictures proves to be very popular,it can be downloaded thousands of times and they get thousands of smaller download fees.

REMEMBER ONLY POPULAR PICTURES MAKE REAL MONEY !
-
Run a Google Search for Microstock companies
List these and check them out on forums.
Look particularly for ones that are not paying photographers.
Get terms of business from most likely one(s)
READ IT CAREFULLY.
Look through their subjects on their website - things that you may have similar stocks of yourself
Be honest and compare your pictures to theirs.
Assemble a cd/dvd of your best work.
Join microstock library.
Upload your samples.
Email and tell them you did it !
Await response.
Notes -
If you have work with a regular stock agency and you DON'T want them to sell the pictures as Microstock, WRITE AND TELL THEM SO !
Most sizable photolibraries are serioucsly considering selling Microstock. Remind them that they have to have YOUR permission to do so. Regular stock contracts don't currently include it !
don't sign up with ANY Microstock outfit that demands exclusivity.
Ignore any that have three or more bad strikes against them from different people.
Make sure your work is colourful and sharp.
Make sure your shots are big enough - see terms. If they are too small they'll just get deleted.
Don't expect critique - if they take them then thats OK.
If you want a tutorial go to a Photo School.
There is no reason not to send the same pictures to several microstock agencies.
Wait for the money to come in !
